Hello, I come from Vietnam. In January 2025 I am going to have a trip from Chicago to Detroit by a Toyota Highlander of my company's partner. So I want to know are there any rest stops along the journey for the driver to rest, eat, go to the bathroom and refuel the vehicle? Besides, I also wonder about traffic in your country. As on highways in Vietnam, the left lane is used for vehicles with higher speeds to overtake, and the inner right lane is an emergency stop lane to handle incidents. I don't know if it's like that in the US? Thank you very much

You should seriously consider doing a video on Park Forest, which is located next to Matteson. It has similar issues to Matteson but has a very interesting history, and a few areas that are getting seriously run down, with board-ups and such

This channel is good for a relax

I wouldn't call it poverty stricken. I call it working class, with very few rentals. Most people here care about their property and take care of it as best they can. Some folks have fallen on hard times, here - not really an indictment of Markham as a city. What you saw in this video is mainly West Markham, and there is still North Markham to show. The other video shows some parts of East Markham.

At 1 hour 30 minutes in with Utah doing "Can You Feel The Sunshine" in the tiny community of Furley I said to myself yes I can really feel the sunshine! The road less traveled but most illuminating on so many levels is the heart and soul of a Chris Harden video. May those who take the time to experience these videos look at where they live with more curiosity and wonder. I certainly do.

Lived In Chgo heights and Park Forest in 60s and 70s. Matteson was south of 30 and east of Governor's Hwy. Not much there

Back in the 70's, "Da Heights" was the Naperville of the time. There are still some very nice upscale homes and neighborhoods in town, but those are balanced by the blight of the East side, and you have to go to Olympia Fields or Homewood (or over to Indiana if you're smart) to buy groceries, gas, etc.

Matteson was once a potential Black Barrington at one point, because the majority of the residents who moved to Matteson were middle-upper class Black Americans, and lots of houses, townhouses etc were all built, and lots of Black Americans moved there. All of the well-off Black residents moved there in the 90s to the 2010s. Hopefully Matteson can make a comeback and be similar to Olympia Fields and Flossmoor

This is very common occurrence in Cook County. The original home owners get old and die or move out. These homes have sometimes not been well maintained as they aged and on social security. The prices of these homes decrease and buyers with less financial means buy these homes and do not maintain them either. The lower the property values become, the more undesirable people move in and the cycle of poverty and neglect continue as the businesses also move out with lack of customers with disposable income.

Why would someone want to live 40 extra minutes from Chicago? We would not like to live in Indiana over Illinois because their isn’t anything there to do. Your preference isn’t everyone’s preference. I like being around well educated diversified people but with more of me. Respectfully….❤

I went to Garfield Elementary in the early 80's on "the hill." If anyone knows what happened to Mrs. Allen (6th grade teacher) please reply. She wasn't old at the time. I'm looking back and realized she was such an awesome teacher. On another note, Starflyer Roller Rink - such great memories!

Beautifully done and full of surprises. Incongruous beyond just about anything I have ever seen, even though I had already watched the first video of Matteson. A shuttered very nice looking near new high school closed after in use for less than 10 years...huh? Lots and lots of commercial property abandoned or underutilized BUT one subdivision after another from fairly new to older with the vast majority of homes well kept up. I have seen a lot of Chris Harden videos but nothing quite like this. I really enjoy and treasure so much the lost footage postings!

Pronounced Mate-son, right? Matti-son? Shux, an old GF, who was from there, pronounced it Matison, like "Madison" with a T. But what would she know, having lived there her whole life, except for college. Mattison is better than most places that I lived in Illinois, especially Harvey.
