In this video I tell you everything that's in my violin case. I've wanted to do this video for a while. Hope you guys like it. Enjoy!
My Music School Audition
มุมมอง 2.7K7 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I talk about my violin audition for the University of Maryland School of Music. It was a very odd day, but the audition was pretty short and sweet. Enjoy!
Life Update: Getting into UMD
มุมมอง 6K7 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I talk about recently being admitted into the University of Maryland, College Park as a transfer and a music student. I also talk about what I've been up to during my "gap year." Enjoy!
The Christmas Tag
มุมมอง 937 ปีที่แล้ว
My sister and I made sort of a last minute video for Christmas. Enjoy!
Carnegie Hall/NYC Vlog
มุมมอง 6578 ปีที่แล้ว
I recently went on a trip to play at Carnegie Hall with a youth orchestra that my sister and I participate in, and decided to document some of the trip. The video clips become shorter, because I didn't record as much as the vlog progresses. Anyways, I had a lot of fun making this video. I hope you guys like it! Music: TH-cam Audio Library -Airport Lounge - Disco Ultralounge by Kevin MacLeod is ...
Ur awesome! I love stickers decorate ur violin 🎻 case as much as u want! Sticker it up girl!❤
Also, I know it has nothing to do with the video, but I'd love to tell you that your smile is very sweet. Keep on smiling.
Being a child adult it's actually wonderful. Take into account that being child-like is not the same as being child-ish. Blessings to you all, and stay child-like.
auditioning there tomorrow..😓
got rejected lol but i got accepted academically so I'll try next year!
Why’d this just pop up into my recommended?
when she dropped her rosin my heart went 💨⬆⬅🔄⏫🔼🎦🔃
Literally SEARCHING for someone who auditioned at UMD for Violin. A GODSEND
oh wow, I'm glad this could help!
U should upload u playing Lauren hope you're safe !
yeah, i totally should lol. i've been working on a lot of pieces lately, so I'll try and work on getting something out this summer!
Very underrated video. Keep up the good work you!
thank you so much!
We Stan a queen💕
thank you baby 🥺
This is great because most of the violins I see I really can't tell the difference between if it's a beginner violin orsay up to $16,000 and it was really hard for me to figure out which violin to start out with because I already play different instruments and I know it takes a lot of dedication and time just to begin
For your e string do u keep it for a back up just in case?
i do have a backup! i keep my old strings just in case i need to replace one if one of them breaks
Did you even need to play the etude ? Which one did you prepare ? :)
i did play an etude! i just can't remember which one i played off the top of my head. it was a kreutzer etude, i believe
Can you do an update on UMD and your dislikes and likes
i'd actually love to do something like that! hopefully i can make a video about it in the near future...
at the end of the year im auditioning piano at some conservatories in the uk for my undergrad and it all seems so unfathomable... definitely calming to watch this! thank you for sharing!
i'm really glad it helped!
What was the case called? I forgot and I’m already halfway through the video lol, it’s a really nice case
Tonareli is the brand!
I’m auditioning for the best music school in my state this weekend, and I am SO nervous. Do you have any tips that could help me last minute?
i'd just say to think of it like this: the panel wants you to succeed! they're not checking and tallying every mistake that you might make. also you're auditioning for a school. you're not gonna be perfect! school is the TIME to make all of your mistakes! if you were perfect you wouldn't need to go to school!
Do you know about how long the entire audition lasted? I’m auditioning for FSU on violin at the end of the month and I’m absolutely TERRIFIED. Hearing you talk about your experience is super helpful, thank you for sharing!!
I'm glad to hear that it helped! Typically undergraduate auditions last anywhere between 10-15 minutes (usually more around 10), I believe. But honestly the audition went so quickly for me I'm not even sure I was even in the room for 10 minutes haha. If you're terrified, I would suggest playing for friends, family, a pet etc. lol.....maybe even have people set up a mock audition for you to simulate being in a high pressure audition environment!
Lauren Holmes I will! Thank you sooo much.
I'm still deciding to go to UMD (2023) I just got my acceptance letter yesterday and it's my #1! I have other friends that got accepted and I know someone very closely who I've known for years that works there. I think I might go but I just don't want to feel overwhelmed by how many people go there.
congratulations! it's definitely a huge campus, but whatever your major is, you will definitely find a group of people to click with so you won't feel so alone!
What concerto did you play?
Violin Concerto No. 3 by Mozart!
Did they have specific music selection they wanted to hear? Or did you choose your pieces?
So they don't necessarily have a specific music selection as far as pieces, however, they have guidelines and requirements on their website. I had to play a movement from a standard concerto, a movement of solo bach, and a standard etude
Where did you buy this case if it's okay for me to ask?!?
That's a tiny cello
Thanks for sharing !
no problem!
How hard is it to transfer after a semester?
because I transferred after a full school year, I'm not sure, but I think it actually may be easier to transfer in the spring, as there aren't as many people coming into the school
Lauren Holmes if I were to transfer after one semester I heard comp sci isn’t limited. What does that mean ?
Nice 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Whats in my violin case? violin, new scores, bow!
How about rosin?
of course. Im use "Snowpine"
Why do you need a mute?
Maya Lois sometimes pieces will call for a mute which is more for artistic reasons. the mute used in pieces will most likely look like the small one i showed first. the second and bigger mute i showed is more for practicing in spaces when you don’t want to disturb others. like a hotel room for example
Use some rubber bands to attach your kun to your violin better :)
Do you know my sister annmarie?
i don't think i know an annmarie. is she in the school of music?
Lauren Holmes oh no she's in material engineering
I feel you with the shoulder rest, I falls off every time I take the violin off my shoulder😑
its the most frustrating thing EVER lol
Lauren Holmes, I just got a new shoulder rest and it hasn't fallen off yet, it's a mugig shoulder rest, I got it in a starter kit off of Amazon, it came with extra strings, a bridge, a mute, a tuner, rosin, a fingering sticker I can't see on my finger board (witch defetes the perpus), a cloth, and the shoulder rest, it was only 30 bucks, and for me being a beginner I needed some of that stuff. Also in the string packet it came with a G-3rd, D-4th, B-2nd, and E-1st. I don't know if that is normal so could you help me out there?
your string pack came with a B string??? what brand you use is up to you, but make sure you're definitely getting packages with the correct strings
I would pay in court to make my last name like yours.
haha thanks! 😂
I did a lot of animation enjoyment in New York. New York I'd like to know is expressed simply, and this animation is very wonderful. I liked it very much!
thank you so much!
That was a great help I'm actually buying a violin but I was wondering if it can fit a normal seized backpack maybe a little bigger....?😅😌😄 even if it sounds kinda silly but it would be a great help to me
what is your case called
it's a case from the brand Tonareli!
Girl y'all need a everest shoulder rest XD
haha if it doesnt fall off as frequently is mine does, then sure, i'll look into it!
Lauren Holmes Well mine works very well never fell off once very tight on it actully
I have a everest
I am a beggginer and I have everst
I use a Everest and I have never had a problem with it, also wolf shoulder rests are great too
Does Towson have a bad music program? Im thinking about going in for flute
I definitely think they have a great program for winds! I'm a violinist, so I don't really know much about the flute professor, but I remember there were some really great flute players there!
Lauren Holmes You auditioned to get into Towson right? How was the process? And I want to minor. Do I have to be crazy good?
What is a "mute" used for?
it's something that you put on the bridge of a stringed instrument to dampen the sound! it can make the sound less intense. unfortunately, the example in the video wasn't very good. i think the mic on the camera still picked up the sound very well with the mute.
Yes I think that's why I didn't hear the difference.. Thanks for help ❤
im so shocked that u only have 53 subs! ur really good at talking to the camera and stuff and u definitely just gained a sub
subaia vlogs wow thank you so much! i’ve been pretty busy since i’ve started school but i’m really looking forward to making new videos!
If you dont mind me asking what state do you live in ?? Lol
Nvm lol
I have commented on so many musicians about this But a lot of people pronounce rosin as" Rozin " Please pronounce it as " Raw-sin" BTW love the violin has a great color to it 😉
rosin is pronounced "räzən" with a z
I have been wanting to play the violin for a long time now and I asked my parents for a violin as my christmas gift so that makes me an adult beginner. I really liked how you explain the contents of your violin case especially for the mute thing? Anyways, I'm looking forward for your future videos!
Sherry Tadena thank you so much! i'm hoping to make videos soon! i'm in school now so things are pretty hectic haha
Can you post covers of pieces or popular songs? And are you 2nd or 1st Violin?
Queen Storm i'm currently at university and i rotate between first and second violin in symphony orchestra, but when i find places to actually record more i might look into possibly doing covers!
Lauren Holmes Nice!! It must be difficult alternating though.
haha it's not bad. i'm first for two pieces and second on another
You'll love it! It's so much fun up there but it is a lot of hard work but what isn't these days lol, look forward to seeing u there!
thank you! move-in is in a week, so i'm really excited 😁
Good Video I am an aspiring violinist and I love your vids!
oh wow thank you so much!
For your dirty spare bow u don't have to get it rehaired if it's just dirty. What I got is a bow hair rejuvenating kit that I got from Swstrings.com and I usually use that and it takes off all of the dirt on my bow and I can use the kit over and over again instead of getting a bow rehair. I think it works great
wow i'll definitely look into that! Thank you so much!
i'm playing carnegie hall next spring break & i'm soooooooo excited!! i loved watching this video! i'm gonna totally try and do one on my own :)
catgraced ahhh! i'm so glad you liked it! you should totally do your own 😉
what music did y'all play?!
catgraced it was a benefit christmas concert for autism. we mainly played a lot of christmas songs. it was really awesome because a lot of cool artists came to sing and perform with us!
Lauren Holmes aweeeeee that's amazing!!!!!
Hey I'm looking into trying to get a tonareli hard case and has it gotten scratched a lot over time
well, i've only had it since january, and so far it has a little scratches here and there, but overall, it still looks really nice! they're really not very noticeable
I want to get the same case, how is it holding up?
