Marlin XT-22 Boyds stock upgrade
Just picked up a youth model Marlin XT-22 bolt action rifle and I am upgrading the stock to a Boyds hardwood laminated stock. It is the Evolution SS in the Forest Camo.

Great video. I'm looking to get a boyds stock for my marlin xt-22 as well. I did a search on boyds buts the search criteria for the xt-22 only shows tube fed. Mines a magazine just like yours, which search criteria did you use?? Thanks👍
@@Greybeard_RC when you search the model you have to use the XT series. The SS Evolution is the only option for the mag fed XT-22. I believe that the XT Series is listed between the XT-22 Mag and the XT-17 in the dropdown.
You just don't know how to use a gun. You are the problem not the gun. Nonscence. I've had one for 5 years no issues.
I have a 154 with the agro tires 24-8
The dogs on MS170 are plastic for a reason. They don't dig in wood they just protect the saw from hitting the tree when cutting, because dogs on chainsaws make ALOT of strain on the engine and that poor little thing is just 30cc..
All saws smaller than MS230 are kind of embarrassing. I have MS230 and MS311
@@REDLINERUNNER I don’t feel that way. All saws have a place depending what you are doing with them. I have a 170, 270, 271, 044, and a 660. All have different uses.
What oil/grease you used during the assembly?
@@kkonka I used straight Stihl two stroke oil
Have you had a chance to shoot it? How do you like it?
@@newrunner91 I have and I love it.
Thanks learned a lot
I’ve had mine for several years and have heard bad things about it, I can not say the same. Mine has been flawless and has been an awesome shotgun to me.
@@nickneal15 once mine was repaired it has been a great gun. Have taken a turkey with it every year since.
Put steel dogs on my 2 MS170 saws and converted then to side chain tension adjustment. Much better!
I bought one in 2012. I have never had one issue with mine; I have heard a few stories of others who have had issues similar to the one described in this video. Would I trust this shotgun? Mine? Yes, I have not had any problems with mine. Not sure as to why there was this lack of quality control when Remington normally puts out a good product.
But goes on flywheel great hand tighten torque that down to specs said 28ft lbs but wasn’t sure and then you passed up how you held the flywheel to torque to specs think it’s 24ft lbs not sure either what it 24or 28 how you hold to torque most important part you skipped right over
good stuff , I'm thinking of doing the same to my old 270
Still running great. Best thing to ever happen to this saw.
super
You didn't show reconnection of fuel lines.
Going to haul deer out of the woods
Nope. But close.
Oof. A little bit of rust. Doesn’t look very sound, but good luck. Hope it’s for something light or you can reinforce it.
Adding 10” to each end and adding 6 new crossmembers. Going to be heavy duty.
You didn't show us where the fuel line went. The one with the cut on it
Thanks for your video's. I received this saw torn apart in a box and without your video I'm sure I would ov had much more trouble putting it back together.
Why didn't you show how to install the bar studs? Another video from someone else shows him thread lock the studs and install before putting the halves together. Both ways seem wrong because if he locked the studs in how did he get them back out to put the other stuff on? You skipped the stud install. My problem is I saw the new England saws video install the studs with the long end and flat shoulder to the holes for the studs. That seems wrong because they have a tapered shoulder that looks like it makes to a tapered recess for the stud holes. Can someone please clarify when they should be installed and which end of the stud goes in first? The short end with the tapered shoulder should go in first to mate to the tapered recess correct? The manual doesn't specify or show how it's supposed to be done. Only torque spec and just says install it. Just looking at it tells me the taper shoulder should mate with the tapered recess...
Thanks for the help in understanding how the IH Cub cultivating system works. I’ve used Allis Chalmers G tractors for years, but was always curious how the other side does it. BTW - Observation from a farmer: When I saw that you were wearing sandals while messing with steel and cast-iron it made my toes curl! There’s a reason God created steel-toed boots!
A guy in my area sells the farmer tech 660. He builds them and makes them really great. Best 450 bucks i ever spent
Where did you get the loader for your Farmall cub
I happened upon it through a friend that knew someone who had it.
@@shrunkenskulloutdoors I have a question for you
@@WhittYancy what’s your question?
@@shrunkenskulloutdoors my question is, can you talk to your friend and see if he have one for sale
@@WhittYancy this was the only one the person had that I bought it from. These are very hard to find and the Wagner loaders are harder than the IH loaders. I looked for a few years and just picked out with this one.
Those grommets are just like a new bride.
Just sell it ! Same problem 😕
Beautiful,sounds gr8!
Put the crankshaft in the freezer for 1 day. Heat the crank bearings with a hair dryer or heating gun for couple minutes. Take crank out of freezer quickly dap little WD-40 on it and slip both ends in with ease. Tighten bolts. Walla NO TOOL NEEDED! Works every time. Thank you, I am here all day :)
Make sure you read all the instructions first 🤣🤣🤣
First you have to break the gun in after about 5 to 6 boxes of 3.5in loads they do have a have a recall on them it's because the firing pin doesn't retract so when you put one in the chamber it fires I've had mine for a long time and I've had none of those problems with it either so but break the gun in first and then then then then then then see what it does
Was not a break in issue. It had a bad trigger group that prevented it from cycling after the shot was fired. That is what the recall was also for on these guns and as to why Remington discontinued them. They keep an amount of trigger groups on stock for the ones that were not sold yet but figured would have the problem based on numbers built and how many had been serviced and how many yet were unsold.
I just finished putting my saw together with the help and aid of your videos!! I do appreciate the videos for sure!! But if you are going to do another one, try to include more close-up shots of the parts and how they go in. I am not by any stretch of the imagination a mechanic!! So having those shots would have saved me from pulling parts off and trying to zoom in around your hat! Lol. There were some things you did off-camer that you did not explain you just said you did them, but all in all it was helpful for the step-by-step direction. For a person who has never done a saw build before it was a challenge to follow along.
I just picked up a used one a couple weeks ago. 2 boxes of shells thru it so far, zero issues. Per the serial #, mine was built in March 2010. I'm guessing some older fella had it in his safe, passed away, and his family put it on consignment at my LGS. From my reading, the problem 887's didn't really start until 2014, and the subsequent recall on this model for the sticking firing pin. (And, Remington's pre bankruptcy rampant QC issues) Whole I've read many horror stories about the 887, I'm glad mine is a keeper.
Is it much cheaper to buy the kit as against built ?
It was cheaper when I bought mine. Was over $100 less but I bought it just to build it myself.
Has this kit held up well?
Have not had one issue with it. I have had better reliability after putting this kit in than from factory new.
This was very helpful I caught this on sale and it was missing some nuts which I picked up at a hardware store. The instructions over complicated this for me. Thank you 😊
Have had mine for years, first thing I did when I brought it home was disassemble it, polish and over lube everything. It’s been one of the best shotguns I’ve ever owned with zero issues. Man handle them and keep it lubed and it’ll do exactly what you want reliably.
What are you using for rails?
I used unistrut. It is used for electrical. They are 10’ long and I welded 1” square tubing to make it like a ladder. Works really well.
What was the problem or is it junk
It was junk to begin with. I had a couple follow up videos that showed the resolve. Ended up needing a new trigger group.
Hey. You could have shown the reconnect of lines to carb and primer bulb. What ev. Waste of my time bud. Pffft.
Why bother. Those Poulans are the worse designed junk out there.
For a general homeowner they are a good saw. In time everything will need maintenance.
@@shrunkenskulloutdoors I have a Poulan Pro I purchased in 2013. I've never used gasoline with ethanol (recommended), always used Amsoil Sabre Pro 2 cycle oil. What happens is there is a seal that goes bad that makes it run bad. First thing everyone does is chase down a phantom carb issue. Well, if you leave fuel (ethanol) fuel in the system it hardens the lines and diaphragms. Regardless those seals WILL fail.
@@shrunkenskulloutdoors There's a big difference between maintenance and repairs. When using outdoor equipment, especially 2 cycle, it is imperative to NOT use gas with ethanol. If that is done on a chain saw foe example, it eliminates any and all issues with fuel related issues. But these Poulan Pro's and Wild Things saw are junk. I was just at a shop the other day. He showed me exactly why these Poulan saws fail. He's worked on hundred of these things. Husqvarna has known for years why these saw fail to run correctly. They do not care. So instead of making people think they can fix junk, just be honest. Tell them it is better to buy a different brand than put more money into a piece of equipment that will run poorly. Better off buying a cordless.
