LOTRO: The Saga of Vegward - Episode 88: The Iron Hills [Arkenstone Server]
In the eighty-eighth episode, Vegward delves into the untamed lands of the Iron Hills, the eastern reaches of the Dwarf-holds. This chapter follows Vegward’s journey to uncover the ancient dwarven strongholds, confront the looming threat of the Easterlings, and secure the future of the Dwarves of Járnfast in a quest that pits him against deadly foes and deep-rooted challenges. Vegward’s journey into the Ironfold begins with a call to uncover the truth behind several troubling reports. Vegward quickly discovers the region is beset by the Jangovar Easterlings, who have infiltrated the area, seeking to exploit the rich natural resources hidden within the Iron Hills. As Vegward pushes deeper Into the Ironfold, he uncovers dwarven settlements such as Skald’s Drop and Utterby, both of which have become battlegrounds between the proud dwarves and the relentless Easterling invaders. Vegward aids the dwarves in securing Foundations of Járnfast, helping them protect their strongholds and establish a firm foothold in the region. Along the way, Vegward learns of the rich history of the Ironfold, a land brimming with ancient lore and long-forgotten secrets. Vegward soon finds himself in the heart of the dwarven fortress of Járnfast, where he is tasked with gathering vital resources such as iron and gold to bolster the dwarven defenses. Vegward helps secure these precious materials, fighting back the hostile Easterlings and local beasts that threaten the dwarves’ efforts to rebuild their once-proud city. With every step, Vegward strengthens the dwarven defenses and rekindles their hopes of reclaiming their lost glory in the Iron Hills. The stakes are raised when Vegward arrives at Hammerstead, a vital dwarven outpost that stands as the last line of defense against the Easterling menace. With Easterling forces gathering strength, Vegward is thrust into The Defence of Hammerstead, where he joins his fellow dwarves in a series of brutal skirmishes to hold back the invading horde. Vegward fights alongside Grámi Hornhelm, a master weaponsmith, to ensure the dwarves have the weaponry they need to withstand the assault. In the tense battle, Vegward confronts the Easterling leader, striking a decisive blow in The Head of the Snake. However, the victory is hard-won, and Vegward must continue to defend the outpost, ensuring the safety of Hammerstead’s people. As Vegward’s journey continues, he takes on a daring mission to infiltrate the Easterling camp of Er Shamol, a key stronghold of the Jango var. In a dangerous infiltration, Vegward poses as an Easterling slave to gain information and undermine their forces from within. This leads him into an epic confrontation with the Easterling leader, the Lord of Iron, in a heart-pounding instance where Vegward must outwit and outfight his enemies to survive. While infiltrating Er Shamol, Vegward frees captured slaves, sabotages Easterling operations, and inspires hope among the downtrodden dwarves and men who have been forced into servitude by the Easterlings. His actions weaken the Easterling war machine and sow discord among their ranks, culminating in the Battle for Utterby, where Vegward plays a crucial role in driving the Easterlings from one of the most contested areas of the Ironfold. With the immediate threat to Hammerstead alleviated, Vegward embarks on a new adventure in the quest chain Beneath the Fold. He uncovers ancient dwarven ruins and secrets buried deep beneath the Ironfold. Venturing below the surface, Vegward navigates the dark and treacherous tunnels of the Dáinlik, where he faces dangerous creatures and uncovers relics from an age long past. In his exploration of these ancient chambers, Vegward stumbles upon clues that reveal a greater plot at work-one that threatens not just the Ironfold but the entire region. As he battles to secure these hidden dwarven treasures, he finds himself drawn deeper into a web of political intrigue and ancient enmities. As Vegward’s journey draws to a close, he is summoned to the Ironfort, where he assists in securing the final defenses of the Ironfold. With the fate of the Iron Hills hanging in the balance, Vegward stands tall against the forces of darkness, securing the future of the dwarves and ensuring their legacy endures. Along the way, Vegward delves into the next chapter of The Black Book of Mordor, where he learns of a darker force pulling the strings behind the Easterling invasion. This revelation sets the stage for the next chapter in his journey, as Vegward prepares to confront an even greater threat looming on the horizon.

    Back when I played DDO, on my Bard, I would run into a group of enemies, hit Diplomacy so they would ignore me, then start stabbing with my two Con draining daggers! If you're really interested in D&D, I highly suggest Solasta: Crown of the Magister. It's 5e D&D rules converted to a turn based fantasy computer game. The main campaign is 1-12, with Palace of Ice dlc it goes to 16. There's also Lost Valley and Primal calling, which adds more Classes, Backgrounds and a 1-12 campaign. You can play it by yourself or with up to 3 other people.

It was tough, Champ goes down to DOT stacks with just under 200k to go, champ gets a quick rez and loses DOTs then Mini died with 60k health left on the turtle but I managed to get it down without her. Champ is my solo char, we are usually RK and Mini, with just those 2 at lvl 59 we managed to 1/2 kill the turtle but Yellow RK does not have te health to stand up to the DOT stacks. I LOVE how pure your first try is :P I started playing this game on release, and I remember trying stuff out like this (but characters were weaker back then, so I took LOTS of more damage). But there are some really cool things in this game :) DDO is SUPER pay to win, but it doesnt really matter as its pretty much all Co-op. Seeing this sparked alot of my old memories of excitement of exploring and just trying things out until they work, then seeing the same in my wife when I got her to start playing :) Run everything on the hardest difficulty that you can survive :) One XP bar is for "ranks" and one is for "level". Ranks are "minor" levels, that gives you an action point that you can use for your enhancement trees (Press ctrl + r). A full level is every 5th rank.

    • @mooreaper
      @mooreaper 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it will take some adjustments, but some of the hotkeys are similar. The menus themselves and tabs are a bit confusing, but I think thats just because its new. I am finding that the adjustment to the DnD terminology is a bigger adjustment. Having a good time so far.

    Excellent episode, excellent game content. Gondor is just so good. Standing Stone did a fantastic job, especially with the epic quests leading to the climax of the books. Don't hasten too quickly through Mordor and the other zones leading up to King's Gondor! It really benefits from some distance in time to savor the return all the better, IMO. But it is definitely something to look forward to!

    • @mooreaper

      Beat for beat, I think Gondor has been great. I've got some reservations about some of the zones closer to Minas Tirith in Far Anorien, but it really seems like the devs hit their stride and really stretched the source material to flesh out the entire experience from start to finish. It's been a great ride, and its really hard to believe theres still so much content left in the game. I mean, I had it my mind when I titled the first episode "Humble Beginnings" that Vegward's journey was going to be long and frought with danger, but he has seen some stuff and done some things. I'm really happy with the way this game has shaped up over the years. I wish I'd stayed.
