Roaming in Raymond Motorhome Adventures
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 เม.ย. 2016
Living full time vanlife in our motorhome "Raymond" since April 2021 with our rescue husky Nanook.
Raymond is an Elddis Encore 255.
Welcome to our channel.
Beautiful places to explore, motorhome and campervan stuff, and the ups and downs of living in a motorhome is what we're about.
Unfortunately, our gorgeous boy Nanook passed away on Thursday 8th June 2023 after a short battle with cancer and we were devastated.
We now have a rescue from Portugal named Wolfie. He is a husky and all sorts cross!
In March 2023, Helen bought a 1993 Talbot Express Autosleeper Symphony, as she can't drive Raymond due to driving restrictions.
She now travels solo in "The Nook" when Karl travels solo on his Honda Fireblade motorbike.

Nice dash cam. Shame you can't get it with just the front facing one. We have no rear window as well! Would have got one else!
Yeah, they're definitely worth having with the idiots on the road nowadays.
Hello Helen & Karl, sorry to bother you, do you know what has happened to Stephen? I’ve just seen he’s had the air ambulance out to him. Do we know where Skye is? X
I haven't got a clue Louise, my signal is awful! I'll see what I can find out.
Bless you, thank you. Hope you can get a signal! X
@louisesymonds9963 I've messaged him, but it only has one tick which means it's not been received. Hopefully he will see it and get back to me. I'll let you know if he does. xx
Ok Helen, thank you for letting me know, that’s really good of you. I hope he sees your message & can reply soon. It is a worry. We’ll be in Builth Wells later & I hope there’s a signal! I’ll keep checking to see if you’ve heard anything. X
@louisesymonds9963 Builth Wells normally has really good reception so you should be OK. I'll let you know. Enjoy Builth Wells. xx
Scotland is beautiful. We can't wait to get back there. 🙂
Me neither. Karl is there now as he wanted to escape and I had family stuff on, so he's gone on his own. I'm going again late March for hopefully a month. It is a beautiful part of the UK.
Nice review. Thanks. Been looking at dash cams. So something to consider. 👍🏻
The rear camera stopped working on the last one I had and it was much more complicated to use. This one is much better.
We love it there. So pleased you caught up with Stephen and Skye 👍😊.
Arran is an amazing place and so much quieter than the mainland, as you know. Always lovely to see Stephen and Skye. 😊
Loved those clouds. The bench was gorgeous too. The Robin was so sweet. Pleased you made it to the gardens despite your “watergate”. Hope you manage to get it fixed without too much damage to the van. You’ve done so well on your trip Helen 😊👍
Thanks. I loved the Robin, the way he just stood there listening to me was so cute.
Just want to say Hi. We met you back in November at the Kelpies in Scotland. We're Mel and Ste. We finally started our own TH-cam channel. mel & ste roaming free
Yes, we remember you! You were in the campervan. We shall have a look at your channel. Good luck with it.😊
Love your channel keep going for us!!! ❤️
Aw, thank you so much Kimberley💖 You are very kind indeed.🥰
@ so are you!!! 🙏
@Kimberley-Z 🥰
I just love your van!! Go Karl and Helen you got this. 🏴🥰🦌🇺🇸😊🙏🌵
Aw, thanks Kimberley, I'm glad you like it.😊
Thanks Karl. All the best. 👍🚐😎
Thanks Rob.
Woohoo, thats me in my van on the video. Great filming Helen. Look at the quality of that van in front 😅. Oh and the dashcam is not bad either 😂😂😂
Ha ha ha, yeah, there was loads with your van on 😁 It's working pretty well and a lot less faff than the other one I had.
That’s bad, but these potholes are a pain, safe travels guys 👍👊🥰🇬🇧🚌🐕
Thanks. Didn't know you'd commented as had no notification. It was the speed bumps at Threave Gardens that did it, unfortunately.
@ that happens with our channel too, bloody speed humps are a major factor in a lot of damage to vehicles Helen, I never see them until it’s too late 😖
@wanderingbychoice agree, they're a pain in the A!
@ 😂😂😂😂
Nice and simple, just how you want them to be, nice review mate 🙏👊👍🚌🇬🇧
Thanks very much 👍
Perfect nice and simple. Good clear video.
Thanks Richard.🙂
I do like the look of that dashcam , i will have a look at it now through your link.😊
Thanks very much. Hope you buy one as it's good value.🙂
What a massive faff 😮At least your final day was glorious. Beautiful gardens. Thanks for sharing N&Nx
Thanks very much. Yeah, the nature reserve and the gardens were great. They're both National Trust for Scotland and definitely worth the visit.
@roaminginraymond so cool that our NT cards are accepted in Scotland too. Safe travels N&Nx
I need a new Dashcam. Will take a closer loook.
Yeah, my last one broke unfortunately, so this one is great. I like simple to use and this one is lol
Wow that bench is absolutely beautiful, I very talented person made that. What a bummer with the water leak, hope it hasn’t done much damage.
Yes, a very beautiful bench. It's dried out OK luckily. Hope you're all well.
Hope you find one or get it rebuilt soon. All the best. 👍🚐🐾🐾😎
Thanks Rob. Me too 😁
First it wasn't your fault... then it was!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Definitely not my fault 😆 It was the National Trusts fault with those stupid little speed bumps! That's when it broke after going over them! I should sue 😂😂
@roaminginraymond Yeah! Get a bit of compo!!!!
@blakes4ontour 😂😂
That's old vans for you Helen a quick fix though so it's all good take care lovelys ❤️
Thanks Charlie. It ain't fixed yet lol.
It is a daft way to secure it really. Hope you can get a replacement or repair.
Thanks. Yeah, it is a bit strange really. Those really small speed bumps at Threave just killed it unfortunately lol. I'll get one eventually.🤞
Look on the bright side Helen. Cost a lot more if Karl wasn't there to fit it. ❤
That is true Trevor.😁
Hope you can find one and then at a reasonable price Old fashion boiling water lol 😂
Still looking, it's a right pain in the A! Good job I have a kettle lol
Oh no! Hope you find another one and its not too expensive x
Thanks Mary. I've been looking, but it's a right pain when they're old tanks and most sell them with the gas part and the electric element separately. Made me realise why my van was dripping though!
@@roaminginraymond XXX
Had the same problem with the water heater in a caravan and the unit was completely rebuilt by Gary at Arc systems in Nottingham. Worked perfect after that.
It's a right pain and I could do with the element to run it on electric too. I shall look the people you mention up. Thanks. 😊
Blimey, that's a bummer. At least it was easy to diagnose. Just have to find another one. Good luck 😅
Good luck is the word 😁They're 200 quid on Ebay and I think that's second hand, and that's without the heating element for it to run on electricity.

Hello Helen Karl and woolfie hope your all ok sorry not been in touch been non stop here as always lol but I'm still here and watching and liking loving the vids but wow you been having a few problems with the van but hope you will sort them and get back out in the wild anyway you all take care all the best love from our family to you ❤
Hello Jamie. Nice to hear from you. Yes, always something with my old van, but suppose it's to be expected. Hope you and the family are all well.
@roaminginraymond that's true and I will know the feeling soon as we looking at getting a partly build camper around April and it's going to be oldish to as on a tight budget but we will be using it daily and for camping so if it needs something then I will just get it fixed but yeah we ok just been extremely busy with Christmas and our eldest birthday that's just gone and he is now 13 😱 but looking forward to future with the van once got it lol.
I loved whithorn too beautiful take care Helen ❤
Thanks Charlie.
👍
Thanks Trevor.
You stayed! Well done Helen, very brave. Beautiful video. Wolfe certainly has landed on his paws. All the best for the year ahead. X
Yes, I was brave and stayed. I was nervous though. Wolfie is lovely company. Thanks Louise and hope you get to do some travelling too. xx
That was a calming and peaceful watch. I’m heading to Somerset soon for my first trip out on my own, so I’ll be interested to see if you stay or go, I’ll have to watch the next one straight away! I’m staying at your Watchet and Burnham and I’ve got a campsite booked on Exmoor. It’s exciting but absolutely terrifying! We did go and look at a doggie at Forest Dog, but she wasn’t quite right for trips in the van. Take care xx
I've just spent two weeks on and off in Burnham. You will feel safe there as there are a few vans there anyway and it's well lit too. It's also totally free at this time of year. I only get nervous there when Wolfie has to go out around 10pm as there's not really anyone about then, but I just walk by the apartments and back as quickly as possible lol. Sorry the doggy wasn't right for you, but I'm sure the right one will arrive. There's a charity called High Hopes in the Kidderminster area. Who have many many doggies for rehoming. What campsite are you going to on Exmoor? I want to go to the National Trust one by Malmsmead, Cloud Farm. We walked through there and loved it, but I don't think my van would get up Porlock Hill. So I'd have to do the toll road.
@@roaminginraymondThanks Helen for your reassurance about Burnham, I might have 2 nights now. Just looked at your NT campsite, looks v nice. I’ll be at Burrowhayes Farm, West Luccumbe. It’s also a riding school. £19 out of season for basic pitch, dogs free. It’s close to Porlock, NT Holnicote Estate, Bossington, Dunster, Dunkery Beacon. I’ll base myself there to have a good explore. I see also on searchforsites there’s a service point in the National Trust carpark at nearby Horner Wood - fresh water, Elsan etc. I’ve yet to experience Porlock Hill! Thank you for mentioning High Hopes. Haven’t heard of them before. Just had a quick look. Jennie looks lovely who will be coming over soon. X
@louisesymonds9963 didn't know about the service point so that's good to know, I'll have to have a look. Aw, that's great you've looked at High Hopes. They have "meet the dog days" too, normally at the Cobb House Countryside Park in Worcestershire. Don't know if you've ever been there but there's a campsite and a cafe and lots of walks. We went before we got Wolfie, but didn't find a dog that felt right for us. Exmoor is a lovely part of the country. I'm hoping to go that way myself at some point. Want to get down to Tintagel too to get Nookies ashes there, as he loved the walks along the coast.
@@roaminginraymond The meet the dogs day sounds like a very good idea. I don’t know Cobb House Countryside Park and will have a look at the campsite. Thanks so much for mentioning that. I can’t find any mention online of the service point at Horner, other than on search for sites. There is a recent review and it seems to be behind the loos in the National Trust carpark next to Horner tea rooms. Looks like there are lovely walks in the woods too. These are the details they give: Horner TA24 8HY, N51.1976, W3.57824. I don’t know Exmoor at all and looking forward to it. I hope you manage to go there and visit Tintagel too with Nookie’s ashes. X
@louisesymonds9963 yes, I found the Horner site, it's by the tea room. Took me a while, but I finally found the what3words. Yeah, the meet the dogs days are good, and it's good fundraising for them too.
Cracking bench and a lovely interaction with the Robin. Hopefully your van is all sorted now. All the best to you all. 👍🚐🐾🐾😎
Thanks Rob. I do tend to have conversations with the wildlife! But robins seem to listen and they're such lovely birds. He didn't seem to mind anyway. Van is sorted, but there's more issues now. All good fun when you own an old campervan!
So frustrating when ya get those stupid little van problems. That’s why I’m not bothering with integrated stuff in my self conversion. I can’t be bothered with the faff….especially as I don’t really know how to fix most of them. 🤦🏽♀️ keeping it simple this time. You stayed at some gorgeous places though 😊 Thanks for sharing your journeys as always ❤
I certainly don't blame you, it is a lot of faff. My son wants to do a van conversion but he needs to stop spending his money first and save it! I loved the trip despite the van issues. Hope you and George are well 💜🐾
1:50 love that bench! You have done a really good job travelling solo in the series even though you have had all these issues with the van. Those gardens looked lovely Helen! Loved that Robin! Still my favourite birds!
Thanks very much, appreciate the kind words.😊 The bench was beautiful and agree, robins are so lovely. I was really close and it just sat there listening to me like I'm a mad woman lol. I always talk to the birds when I see them, especially robins.
@ same here! 😊 just been for a short walk around my estate🚶 freezzzzzzing! 😂
Shame about the water, could you not isolated the tank and run on cold and a kettle? Lovely video though and great to here the bees. Grace says hello to Wolfie.
Yeah, that's what Karl has done now. Just glad it happened when I was heading south and not on the way up. That would have completely peed me off to say the least lol. Hopefully Grace and Wolfie will get to meet this year.🐾🐾
Sorry the trip came to an end …. There is always a gut wrench feeling when a van issue happens it always dominates the day …… Chin up Hope your both well …..
You're right there, it certainly does, especially when there's nothing you can do about it til you get back. We're OK thanks. Hope you're both well too.🙂
Wow those sunsets were beautiful, hope you got the van fixed, water problems are the worst to try and find , fingers crossed for you Helen..👊👍🥰🚌🏴🐕
Thanks. Yeah it got sorted, well sort of lol. Always something with old vans. How's Devon?
Oh dear Helen there’s always problems, I hope Karl can get it sorted for you. Beautiful gardens and scenery superbly filmed as always, thanks for sharing and please take care and be safe.Byyyeeee🚐
@ericlacey6593 hello Eric, hope you are well. Yes, the things got fixed but there's other issues now. Always something with these old vans, although the new ones don't fair well either really!
@@roaminginraymond not quite there yet, stopping in Dorset for a bit, reliving old times 🙏🥰👊🚌🇬🇧
Such a shame you had to go home early! Nice castle. Those purple flower beds with all the bees! Lovely sunset Boyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeee
Yeah, did my head in at the time, but both the Threave places were worth visiting. Have you ever been to any of them?
@roaminginraymond no. I don't think we have! Xx
@blakes4ontour it's National Trust at both.
It’s not over!!! Just a little wobble, it’s fixable, you have a great van keep it. Your running bunny says so!!!lol 😂 beautiful castle and gardens wow. 😮 keep your pecker up lol 😂 enjoy life 🏴🇬🇧😍🐕🦺😂🏴🇺🇸🙏
Thanks, Kimberley. Yes, only blips, but when you're on the road, you can't fix them, unfortunately. I'm just glad the trip was nearly over anyway. The nature reserve and the gardens were great and well worth a visit. Definitely not getting rid of the van, I love my adventures with Wolfie. Not long til you're over!
I've really enjoyed this series, Helen Thank you. I will be visiting the same areas in May. May be time for a diesel heater? I wouldn't be without mine.
Aw, thank you so much😊 I do have a diesel heater, but it does drain the batteries in the cold dark winter. The gas heating uses less but it needs sorting. I'm really glad you've enjoyed the videos and it's great to hear you're going to be visiting these places. I'm hoping to get back to Scotland at some point in the next few months. Make sure you get some Smidge or something similar for the midges. I'd say Lochranza and Glen Sannox on Arran were the worst and also Loch Doon in Dumfries and Galloway.
Pleased you had overall positive vibe about this trip. You seemed pretty down at times early on. Look forward to seeing you both on another adventure in Raymond. I’m sure Mr B (fix it) will have all the jobs sorted in no time on The Nook.
I did really enjoy it and definitely don't mind travelling solo, especially when the nights are lighter. The van issues can be a real downer at times as there always seems to be something going wrong. Good job I married Karl! Everything got fixed, but I've been in Somerset for two weeks and now there's more issues 😆 Hopefully we will get them sorted between us in the next few weeks.
A good trip Helen, hope The Nook is sorted now x
Thanks Mary. Yes, it all got fixed and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Just a shame I had to go home a couple of days early, but at least it happened at the end and not the beginning. I'd have cried if it had happened after I'd set off. Wolfie sends you his love.💜🐾

I have a 10 litre for my cups of tea lol, but I don't think there was much left in there. I did enjoy the trip and things are fixed, although I still have blind issues and now the gas heater is playing up. Always something! Hope you're well Richard.
Im glad you enjoyed your trip sweetheart old vans for you Helen they can get you down but once its doneyour always waiting for the next job 😂😂😂 take care my lovelys ❤️
You're right there Charlie. Everything got fixed and now the gas heating is playing up and the blinds are knackered again! Every trip something breaks, but I still love my solo adventures. It was a great adventure, despite the constant van issues 😂
Hi, can you please tell me which version of the hoop brackets that you used and the length of them (between chassis cross members). I have an Elddis motorhome and need to install a gas tank in the same location as the one in this video. On my motorhome the position that you mounted your first tank in is alreay taken up by an underslung water heater and underslung space heater. Thanks, Kevin.
We have Alde heating which is probably why ours is different underneath. The mounting brackets are just the standard ones bought from the LPG shop. BUT, the space for the second tank is wider so I had to make my own spacer. Hope that helps.
@@roaminginraymond thanks, I wasn't sure whether they had a range of different bracket widths, or would make a special order. The website doesn't give the dimensions of the brackets that they have available. I'll compare the different spacing of the cross members under the motorhome and see if I can get some channel, or similar, to bridge the gap.
Lovely and sunny! Like the look of that place. Went there yrs ago in the car. ...and then it rained!!!!! Xxx
It always rains lol. Starting to forget what the sun looks like again after a glimpse of it last weekend!
You've got to get the vehicle rocking! Reverse then quickly into forward gear keep doing that until it builds up it's own momentum! Used to do it with my 44ton truck in the snow!
You can gain entry to Thiepval wood and trenches by going over to the Ulster Tower and booking a place on the guided tours they do from there. Forget how often they do them, but I've been on them before!
