Thanks for the great headlight tip! Noticed today the fuel pump on these still has the low fuel sensor. Could wire up a little LED lamp and get a low fuel warning on the dash 👍
I just got a wr250r with 900 miles
Especially since it is a lithium battery, it is a shame it takes so much effort to remove! Went to do the same with mine and came across your video because I couldn't easily figure it out...
Thanks for stopping by, I modded my battery box and now its much easier check here th-cam.com/video/BN3XwSCZMhc/w-d-xo.html
Nice comprehensive review. I'm currently pondering what will likely be my last trail bike and torn between the CRF 250F, the KLX 230R and the KLX 140F. I'm 5'11" @ 193 lbs with a 30" inseam according to my Wrangler jeans. As a lifelong gym rat and rider, I'm still pretty fit at age 67 and just want a fun, relatively hassle free, toy to play with. My last play bike was a clean, very well sorted 2003 KDX 220R that I only paid a grand for. Never should have sold it. Anyway, while the 230 and 250 is more desirable due to size and power, not to mention a massive aftermarket for the 250F, the weight puts me off as things now seem a bit heavier than I remember. 😢 This brings me to the KLX 140F (or G). If I were to go that route, I'd shop for a clean, lightly used bike and do the aftermarket thing. Contrary to your sound advice, I think I'd spring for the SX Parts 188 stroker kit.($1,100) and a quality exhaust. Beyond the new head, larger valves, rev box, etc., the new 63 mm bore and 60.4 mm stroke makes the engine nearly square and that appeals to me for torque and overall engine balance They do offer 3 cams in various grinds and I think stage 2 might be the sweet trail setup. Just wish someone would have already posted such a build and review. Your thoughts? Thanks.
I just changed my battery on my 24 300XC. Might be different but looks very similar. All I had to do was unscrew the bolt on the battery tray, lift it up and remove the battery from the bottom. Wasn’t too bad but I didn’t have to do all this on the XC. Interesting.
Nice video. This is exactly what I was wondering because I ride the same as you and looking to pick one up! How many miles can you go on a tank of gas?
I installed this light a few months ago and noticed today it stopped working. Need to figure out what is wrong.
please post if you find a fix, I will check mine to see if its working still as well
So this bike would be good if Inhave to ride 15-20 miles on road to the trails ypu think?
Is the back right hand corner (brake lever side) of your battery/ecu tray always loose? Mine is and it just doesn’t feel right?
year 2024 looking to buy a used 2017, with 90 hrs, thanks helpful
Wow, this is one of the best summaries of the different bikes I have been considering (WR250R, CRF450L, YZ250F) that I have seen on TH-cam. Sincerely, thank you for taking the time to create this content. Very helpful and very honest.
2:10 nice line!
I’m 40 hours on mine and it’s perfect I just have a pipe muffler and fan, and it’s awesome
Sounds like you might be settled once and for all! It’s refreshing to have a new bike that you don’t have to go out and buy parts for. So many people get sucked into buying a new ECU, pipe, intake without giving the stock setup a chance. Glad you’re having fun Joe!
I grabbed a 2024 xcw 300 a couple months ago I’m at 17 hours and the bike is absolutely amazing , it’s a tractor in the hard stuff. Amazing amazing bike and a great review.
What kind of coffee can did you use for the filter? Maxwell House or Folgers
Folgers plastic can! rip it
@@joeb2829 wise choice. Their coffee is better.
Vov thats wild
Vibration is surprisingly better in 2 stroke😂 I have 250 tpi and 300 4 stroke
Could you please tell me where do I hook my radiator fan up to I have the exact same bike and year
So, how did it work out for you so far? How is it taking corners? Can you ride fast through rough stuff without moving around?
If you like the 15 you'd really love the 24 I think it's amazing
What oil did you use ?
Would you still go with the 430 over the 390 or 500 ? How’s it compare to the Honda 450rl?
I have 12 hr iv blown out the forks the oil pump looks wet which is my main concern at the moment i dont like thinking the pump is sucking air the clutch master cylinder leaks everytime i ride it other than that its a really fun bike to ride starts right up but for 12k i mighta went a diff route im constantly working on this thing doing maintenance
Thanks for the review and opinions. I might really like this as long as I don't have to ride.behind one. Had an older carbodel and then went Sherco 300 4s. It seems like KTM is trying to make a 2s version of a 4s bike which might get me back. Still I am going to be crazy and check out the new electrics coming out especially the 3/4 size bikes at under 200 lbs..
just bought a 2024 wr450f… i did all the free mods too, i also find the touchy down low and going to try your settings next ride…. love the power but ya alittle less touch at low speeds would be great
We're can I buy
How do you like the PDS shock vs linkage?
PDS has gotten worlds better in the last 10 years, I thing the pds is perfect stock, I dont miss the linkage, but I dont ride track anymore. If you ride track OR are a B or A rider then get the XC with linkage. But for the average C rider or trail rider the pds is more then capable for whooped out single track in 2nd or 3rd gear. 4th gear whoops or faster get the xc, thanks for stopping by
I know exactly where you were riding I live in that areas by the powerlines. I've been running a Beta 300rr as a do it all bike. In the last couple years I've seen alot of dual sport riding in the area.
Does this bike come with a spark arrestor?
You can get your ecu reflashed for 300.00 and it will get better mpg and better throttle response.
The 500 much better for dual sport, also the 250 is better on mileage. Sure you can use the 300 on street, but I have all and I like the 250 better, coz smoother. Anyway I don’t like any 2 stroke on long straight lines.
I enjoy the videos joe, dual sport two strokes are cool
🤔 I was wondering. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity. 😁👍
I have a 24 250 XCW and receiving my license plate next month for it. In Cali too.

I have a plated Beta 300RR two stroke that has been plated for the last four years. I ride it as most guys ride a 500 fourstroke. It has probably 300 hours on the engine. It was still in spec this winter when I checked. I love my two stroke dual sport! Ride em til they die, rebuild it and ride it again...
Top Ten Dual Sport fun's 10. Learn ride in the nasty rocks 9. Pick bad lines over good lines 8. Make any bad lines look easy 7. Clutch and throttle Chance'um 6. Ride where no one has ridden 5. Pound gears and suspensions 4. Ride faster than the trail speed 3. Full throttle to full brake lockup 2. Pitch it sideways roost out hard 1. Go faster than second guessing ~Gasser Classic~
@ 83 I ride a 23 KTM 300 Erzbergrodeo, great motorcycle and easy to ride in all kinds of gnarly terrain, it's got low-end grunt traction up any long steep rocky climb the Katoom delivers,. I just road 110 mi of Utahs Canyons, Deserts and Mesas on the fun gas more than not getting 41 mpg. Yeah man, make my last days on Earth ~~~~~~~~~Braaap!
Thanks for the video. Seems pretty easy. I'm gonna do this on my 2024 KTM 250 XCW. I agree with you bike should come stock this way as it's a safety issue.
Is the t handle 1/4 or 3/8 you are using?
I use 1/4" it is best for the smaller 8m-12mm bolts, just search amazon for 1/4" motion pro t-handle, thanks for stopping by ride on
Great review. Where do you run your clickers?
And it would’ve started right up the way they had it. I did none of that with my orion. Why would a brand new bike be smoking? The bikes aren’t junk
cool bike bro.
Should I get the 300XC or the XCW model? I heard the 300XC have stiffer suspension.
That Wisconsin accent is prime brother 💪🏼. Great vid. Your description of how controllable it is down low, makes this bike very tempting. My four stroke Kawi is hard to control in any sense of the word at low rpm. Feels like it goes from 0-100 with the slightest twist of the throttle. I ride a lot of desert and open area, so it’s fine. Woods riding and technical terrain is tough though.
How much better is it than your YZ250FX?
Great review. Thanks for explaining the difference between the motor displacement personalities.
Do you know what gearing you were running. I know it’s an old video…
Thanks for stopping by, stock gearing I never changed it. If you're unsure of the stock sprocket sizes just go to Rockymountainatv.com Add the bike to your garage and it will show you the stock sprocket sizes
Excellent and informative video. Yes the stock light sucks. I'm going to wire it for full time high beam...just seems easiest to me and saves space on the bars. TY for a great video how to!
