LDRC 1899 Update and Tips
Hi guys,
This is basically a bunch of tips on the LDRC cars as relates to the new metal body 1899 Skyline.
- the circuit boards are different but can be swapped
- the gyro function is different in the 1899 board
- the servo centering is off if you swap the 1899 board to the older cars
- the radios only work with their corresponding circuit board
- the soft rubber tires work great
- a Surpass metal gear servo works fine but no better than stock (but probably more durable)
- the tail lights LED problem on my 1899 is in the circuit board, not the lights
In my review of the 1899 I was waffling quite a bit because it is so different than the plastic chassis cars but I'm totally on board now. The body is sweet and it drives really nicely for an entry level car.
Do you drive to wrench or do you wrench to drive?

Dirt Cheap Airbrush Review
มุมมอง 1902 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi guys, Is a $7 US airbrush any good? No, but I think it's usable, especially for painting lexan bodies. It's prone to spatter due to paint buildup in the nozzle but I got some decent spray quality pretty easily. I think with some playinf around this thing is usable for stuff you're not super invested in. For the price I paid it's ultra low risk but I would say stay away for $40 for sure. What...
Metal AR44 Clone Axle Review (Cheapish)
มุมมอง 5552 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi guys, These are some cheap AR44 clone axles that I got for $85 cdn on AliExpress. If you want maximum durability these are unlikely to be anywhere near as good as genuine Axial, but if you want some cheap trail truck axles they will probably do the job. There are some problems with the gear mesh and bearing fit but they are manageable if you are handy. Overall they aren't awful if you're on ...

Hi guys, This metal body beast is a very interesting entry level RC. For what you get, the price is pretty fair. The metal body looks great, the electronics are pretty good and it drives quite nicely. I would say it is an improvement over the plastic body cars but they have different upsides, so it isn't 100% cut and dried (big diff is it generally costs more although I got it on sale for $67 c...
1/43 Micro Drift Car Review

Hey guys, This thing is awesome! Must own IMO. I've been waiting for a car like this since I was a wee lad in the 1970s. It makes every other micro that I've driven seem like a total joke. Yes, I love it. The one qualifier is that you need a flat surface to run it on, say 6 ft by 6 ft (2x2 meters). Link is below, I got it on sale so if you want to save a few bucks maybe wait for a bit or find a...

Hi guys, I've been keeping an eye on the 80A Rhino crawler ESC for a while and the price was just a bit to high for me to justify. This clone(?) is way cheaper and I got the combo with the ESC, programming link and outrunner motor for $88 Canadian (cheap). Long story short, it's good. The downside is that programming in the field is a bit of a hassle (need a PC, possibly just a phone, I haven't...
TRX4 Trailing Arm Mod

Hi guys, I used some cheap trailing arms and some shock mounts to add some more rear suspension travel to my LCG TRX4. It isn't miles better than with the links that come with the LCG kit but it seems to side hill better and the rear end has more range of travel for the high speed jumpy/bumpy running. Overall I'd say it's an improvement for the type of terrain I run on. Same 3600KV system for d...

Hi guys, This is a review of the Injora front engine chassis with the 2 speed gearbox. Overall, it's really nice and should be super solid. I haven't run it yet but this goes through all the guts and there's no reason to expect problems. Hi guys, I really like this car a lot. I actually ordered a second kit because between the sweet Mini body and the extra parts it was a smoking good deal. LDRC Tires - They're not all the same
มุมมอง 2364 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi guys, When it comes to LDRC tires, watch that tread pattern, nobby outsides mean a slightly larger tire that doesn't work with the NSX. Watch the color of the wheel for clues to the compound, plain Jane white or black is probably soft rubber and fancy wheels are hard drift tires. Read the add for clues as to the compound. Do you drive to wrench or do you wrench to dirve?

Hi guys, These LDRC drift cars aren't perfect but the car itself is really good. I am just beginning in the hobby and my R1001 came yesterday: when I steer left/right the front wheels dont turn smoothly anymore.. maybe something binding, or maybe normal at hight steering angle? Cant see or feel anything wrong as I took parts of the front axle apart..so not sure.. Thinking about simply trying out the trx4 knock-off axles from the link in the video description: just to make sure, those axles can drop right into the r1001? If yes, maybe worth a try.. thank you for this great content. Helps ke understand the mechanics behind it all :)

      They should fit (I don't own the R1001 but the axles are TRX4 rip offs) but this hobby is full of clone stuff that isn't quite perfect. I've seen people unable to figure out how to adjust the wheelbase by adjusting link ends so it's hard to say 100% that you will be happy with them if anything is a hair off

The only strange thing is that I'm running 2s with it have the bec on 7.4 and I noticed on my remote that shows voltage when it gets down to around 7.3 volts it starts cutting esc no matter what I set low voltage cut off at on or off. Thinking this system needs 3s is issue. Not positive on that but yeah weird.

    I bought 2 classic AE86 LDRC models recently. Out of the box, the left rear ball joints on both cars were loose and detached coming out of the box. I didn’t notice it on the first car, but did on the second one. With the first car, I didn’t notice but the ball joint on the left side popped out of the car causing the left rear wheel to cease propelling the car forward. The car would only provide power to the right wheel, but the car still drove normally and I thought this was normal, until I saw the broken bearing. The light connector was also disconnected but I was able to correct that. I tried but unsuccessfully had the ball joint beating repaired and re-ordered a replacement car. The second car had that same ball joint detached from the motor coming out of the box. I was able to reattach and I monitored the car on a test run to make sure it didn’t pop out and it was good there. I then was trying to mod it for drifting with the drift tires and drift gyro I ordered for it. While doing drift testing, that same ball joint on the left snapped. I took it home and tried replacing it with the good working joint and tried to keep that joint in place with glue, but that messed it up and I couldn’t get the car to go both forward and reverse with even the replacement ball joint. The motor didn’t like it with those joints glued in. Had to disassemble the motor, take that gear out and chip in there to get the joint removed. I was able to get the joint out and tried reattaching, but it was hit/miss in getting it to go forward and backward. Eventually, another joint snapped. Tried fixing it with glue and trying attaching again but no go. Very faulty classic models with failing parts. That’s 2 cars gone!! I found the actual drift model though and I’m gonna hope it don’t come with faulty parts out of the box. On 2 strikes and this will be strike 3 if the car comes in with faulty joints!

I had to go through every hex set that I had to find a set that has a very shallow scallop for the pin. The Axial hexes were pretty good but I did find a set that worked well. Aftermarket gyro might be the ticket (Beaver's hobby has an awesome run down of the ones worth buying) I like being able to tune the controls but the old school part of me knows that patience will get you there eventually when it comes to the driving. Proportional, runtime varies depending on which speed mode you're using (fast, faster, crazy fast), I'd say 10-15 minute minimum. Lots of short races on a charge, no problem. I don't recall what they claim off the top of my head but I did look at their numbers claim and it is believable.

    Nice break down and review of these axles. Like most of the China stuff a little DIY goes a long way. I have the AMK Rock Jock clones under my 1.9 Wraith and I've been surprised how the internals have held up. I didn't mind having to do some modifications to the knuckles for proper smooth steering myself at the price point IMO considering the Vanquish stuff is absurdly over priced my opinion though. I think lots of people buy these cheaper options thinking slap in and go, but like you just explained here you have to take your time and sort these options out and don't expect $600 quality for an eigth of the price. I have a set similar to what you have here I haven't installed into anything as of yet. Also would swapping out to some better quality bearings maybe cure your play you experienced in the axle stub end? I've ran into the China bearings to not be exact spec myself as well. Thanks for sharing with us

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, there's a fine line price wise. For me a lot of the high end stuff is a waste of cash but to each their own. Unfortunately it's not usually the bearings (not in these for sure), because that would be too easy. There are definately poor quality bearings out there but they usually just don't last very long (especially if you get them wet and/or don't clean them). I've seen quite a few out of spec drive shafts and some are just really really bad. Somewhat comically, the only ones I've ever gotten that were totally useless, the CVD pins were too short and they would come apart almost instantly and it's not easy to get pins for cheap. Unfortunately it's a bit of a crap shoot...

      @drivetowrench2709 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did, there's a note - less weight, more twitchy gyro like the plastic cars, so I'm not sure the gyro is different. Might be that the servo is a little weak. The 1899 chassis is super stiff so it's hard to test without the body on. You need the stiffer springs/sway bars to run the heavy body, the plastic body springs are way too soft

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. Lowest speed mode is definitely a little more controllable. Silicone spray on the tires makes it even more drifty and it still seems to handle more or less the same for me. A little silicone spray on the suspension (apply with Q-tip) also solved one side that was a bit sticky (it's not oil and doesn't leave sticky residue)

    I do grip style with 1/43 ldarc crawler wheels. Is a very good car, I Made teflon bearings in rear axel and front center because it has holes with the time. Fit 0.1mm springs softer and more travel. We can make a rear shocks if we drill a hole in the upper case just in the axel.

    Nice vid, I've been waiting for someone to do something with this. I got the same kit and bought the 2 wheel conversion kit also. I wish I didn't in the end because it just doesn't drive well, not enough angle and there's more angle on one side. I spent countless hours trying to correct it aswell as too much money on extra parts. It just has no business trying be a rear wheel drifter and best left as is, which is still fun though. Anyway just wanted to ad to what you had already said. Nice work man

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know. They both look like stock AM32 as far as the GUI (check out the project to see the GUI you get with the code). I couldn't find a published project specifically for either ESC but I didn't look that hard. Hopefully they embrace in to the notion of community developement if they sell enough of these things

    • @MikeJones_Official
      @MikeJones_Official 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rhino has a different ui but this uses AM32 open-source firmware. Basically the exact same programming as Holms Hobbies crawlmaster v3 and anything else that uses Am32

    • @napstersgear3696
      @napstersgear3696 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it doesn't. I bricked mine after flashing Rhino's 80A ESC firmware on it thinking that it is the same firmware seeing that it is a clone of the Rhino. But it is also AM32 so I guess the parameters are the similar. I am still on the hunt for the firmware of this ESC so I revive mine.

    • @drivetowrench2709
      @drivetowrench2709 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@napstersgear3696 At minimum, always make sure the processor is the same before you flash the firmware and if you can't ID the processor, I would never recommend flashing. The screenshots I've seen show the exact same version number of BL32 for the Rhino which (to me) means no reason to flash it unless you change the code in some way for better performance. When I same the same version, that does not mean the processor on this ESC isn't a different version or a different processor entirely. When you build firmware you specify the processor and potentially things like pin assignments and if you get anything wrong the board will not function or become bricked or go up in smoke. It's important to make sure you figure out the details if you're going to flash a board. Hope this helps.
