I’ve got the HB cloned TRX4 that these axles come on. Same with mine, the hole for the pin on the stub axle is really close to the portal housing. Even stock the hex rubs on the portal housing. I had to go through every hex set that I had to find a set that has a very shallow scallop for the pin. The Axial hexes were pretty good but I did find a set that worked well. Surprising that I haven’t seen this issue raised on reviews before. Mine works fine now with the right hexes.
I am just beginning in the hobby and my R1001 came yesterday: when I steer left/right the front wheels dont turn smoothly anymore.. maybe something binding, or maybe normal at hight steering angle? Cant see or feel anything wrong as I took parts of the front axle apart..so not sure.. Thinking about simply trying out the trx4 knock-off axles from the link in the video description: just to make sure, those axles can drop right into the r1001? If yes, maybe worth a try.. thank you for this great content. Helps ke understand the mechanics behind it all :)
They should fit (I don't own the R1001 but the axles are TRX4 rip offs) but this hobby is full of clone stuff that isn't quite perfect. I've seen people unable to figure out how to adjust the wheelbase by adjusting link ends so it's hard to say 100% that you will be happy with them if anything is a hair off
Very nice tipp!Would be intresting how does the hex work on the stock HB Beluga truck? There must also be the stub axles have different positioned holes also?
Definately possible but it seems very odd that the simply flipping the output gear around 180 makes it perfectly match the TRX4. Chinese clones are notorious for manufacturing issues - for example, somebody makes a boo boo on the stub shaft and now they have 5,000 of them, so they figure out a way to use them and pass the problem on to the customer. It is what it is, I have seen shaft slightly too small for the intended bearing, holes .5mm off, unmachines holes, holes mahined in the wrong spot and the part flipped 180 and the hole smachined in the right spot... my money is on somebody made a boo boo and they didn't want to eat the cost. It's like number 8 in the Chinese manufacturing ten commandments - though shalt pass on the problem to somebody else and make money doing it
Like this one from amazon Aluminum Alloy Front & Rear Axle Housing Set for 1/10 Traxxas TRX4 RC Crawler Car Upgrade Parts (Silver) if you don’t mind can you do the review?
I would try to find some housings with a lot of reviews before I bought any because some are not great (poorly made). No reviews coming because I don't want metal housings

Very weird. Stock TRX4 stub shafts fit perfect and you can pretty much use any hexes. I'd bet money somebody made a boo boo. Oh well
