Your pants are lying to you!
Link to our sizing page and video
utkilts.com/pages/size-chart
You always want to be sure to measure yourself before ordering a kilt. As we show in this video, pants are always labeled around 2-4 inches smaller than what they actually measure. Any place that does not require you to measure or does not give you detailed instructions on how to measure is probably a place you do not want to order from. At UTKilts we have a detailed size chart page with a great video that will help you measure so you get the perfect fit on your next kilt.

    I'm new to Kilting and I've purchased two beautifully constructed Kilts from USA Kilts and am totally sold on the company and team they've put together there. In fact, I feel that USA Kilts is "Above Top Shelf" in all areas of their business and their quality, knowledge, and customer service is second to none. However, to be fair I haven't made any purchases from your company but may in the future after I've checked you and your company out.

    GREAT tips here!! I can tell you, I recently ordered a pair of jodhpur riding pants and put in my regular standard pants size in the order that I normally look for when pants shopping in a store or buying on line..... Nope... No where NEAR the correct measurements... Luckily the merchant was understanding and took them back, made a new pair to my correct size and only charged me materials & shipping. Whenever you order anything custom made, invest in a tailor's tape and get ACCURATE measurements that are required to get the garment to fit right and look good on you.

      The colour/pattern doesn't affect the purpose of the pin to keep the apron in check. I wear a UTKilts logo pin on my black utility kilts. Adds a little bling to an otherwise plain shade. Gotten more compliments while pinned to the black than the tartan version.

My husband Erik has no idea about his family tree. I'm trying to find out if he has any living relatives. He may have a 3rd cousin in Bakersfield, CA. This is a very good and honest comparison. Unsurprisingly, the Scottish-made kilt is a nicer kilt. For the price difference, I expect it to be. However, if you wear kilts a lot (as I do), it's not practical for most of us to put a lot of "miles" on a kilt that expensive. TBH, it would take an expert eye to notice the differences when they're both being worn. I'm glad there is a range of kilts available to fit various styles and budgets. When I first started wearing kilts, there were no budget-friendly options available, so I only broke out my (one) kilt on very special occasions.

    I have one black utility kilt that is _really_ cheap... and it looks it (to me). I've worn it at a couple of events (St. Patrick's day, Robert Burns Night), but know I have to do something better. I won't be wearing a kilt more than a couple of times a year, but when I do, I'd like to wear it "properly" and paying respect to the tradition (it's not just some silly "costume"). I've been thinking that one of your PV kilts might be enough for me, but now I'm leaning towards going the Premium Wool route as it's not that much more expensive (only about $55 more for the Premium Wool over the PV). Probably in Black Watch or Black Watch Weathered, as I have no real clan affiliation. I'm mostly concerned with the sizing. I am on the shorter side, and still can't really tell where to measure the hip and length. I know it's *not* pants size, and I think the "waist" measurement is basically at the belly button...? Length would be measured from there to the top of the knee...?

      Yep, measurement of length is done from your waist down to the middle or top of the knee, just wherever you prefer it to end. reach out to me directly at brice@utkilts.com and I am happy to help.

    This is the WRONG way to put a sporran on! The first time to put a sporran on yes, so that you can get the right size hole in the belt. Once that is done. You only need to un-clip one of the clips at the back of the sporran to take it off. And now you never need to mess with the the belt again. Just loop it through the kilt at the back and clip it onto the sporran.

    • @utkiltsbrice
      @utkiltsbrice 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for that! I do disagree as I always put my sporran on that way. Especially since many prefer to purchase our deluxe sporran chains that don't use the clips.

      @@utkiltsbrice I’m 59 and been wearing a kilt since a child has we all do in the highlands. Only ever seen these sporrans hangers with utility kilts sometimes. Guessing it’s something new?? Not really used in Scotland unless you are a large person. Every I know and have seen puts on their sporrans with the chain clip. I haven’t seen a sporran without a chain unless it’s a utility.

      @@sunseeker8457 Interesting! The really nice chains I get from Scotland typically don't have those clips. I actually prefer them as I think they look much, much nicer. The other issue is I have multiple kilts, from 4 yards up to 8 yards. My 8 yards use a different setting than my 4 yards to I end up adjusting them anyways. utkilts.com/products/deluxe-sporran-chain-strap?_pos=1&_psq=chain&_ss=e&_v=1.0

    If Pakistani kilts were available in the 13th Century , William Wallace being Pakistani, a Muslim and a minor noble short of cash , he would have bought both the Spirit of Pakistan and the Islam pattern premium especially if they are custom order in stock ready to ship .

    Good comparison, thank you. To me the bottom line is when I am met, can the other person tell any difference? I don’t think so. On the swing test, did you have them cleaned and presses before the test? Most fabrics have fillers in them so they can be sewn much easier (my wife is an excellent seamstress and can go on for hours about fabric) and a cleaning removes the fillers so the swing is different (at least on my four kilts it is so). I have a US Army tartan kilt that had do much filler in it that it was stiff and had very little swing until it was cleaned and pressed.

    • @utkiltsbrice
      @utkiltsbrice ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, neither of those were cleaned or pressed ahead of time. They are both almost brand new.

    I just ordered a tartan utility kilt from you. The ultimate. Is there any way you can make a TH-cam video showing off the ultimate tartan kilts? I want to sell some to my friends and having a detailed review from you, because you'll explain the pleats and seams, will be insanely helpful! I am waiting for the Highlander Gray ultimate to ship. I'm so excited I ordered it next day air lol

      I have several kilts. My first was bought at my local highland games. The second was a cheap tartan utility kilt from Scottish designer on Amazon, and it's a little tight, but I love wearing them both. I just wish my first black kilt was a UT kilt. The apron is too narrow. It's still comfortable for mowing in and such but I would be happier if it was made properly... If everything goes well with my UT kilt I'm going to buy many more from you! I'm a bigger guy, and you won over damn near kilt em because they don't make a kilt for us bigger guys. I needed a 48-50 and damn near kilt em stops at 46-48. I can't even fasten the snaps if I lay down and suck it in. I'll need more kilts soon. I've been losing weight for the last 12 months and I'm down quite a bit. I'm just getting into kilts because I can finally try them out, so thank you for making cool stuff like this in larger sizes! This is such a reward to finally be able to wear the kilt, and the more I lose the better I'm going to look in it.

    Why is it that I wear 36” trousers/shorts but when I measure around my waist with a tape measure, it’s like 40”?? Lol

    • @utkiltsbrice
      @utkiltsbrice ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't that fun? What you just found out is that ALL pants and jeans manufacturers use what we call vanity sizing. They label their pants 3-4 inches smaller than what they measure. A big misconception among men is that their pants size equals their waist size and it does not. The number in our pants is just a number. They could have put 346 instead of 36 for sizing and it would mean the same. But that is definetly normal for everyone! I wear a 32 when i am stuck wearing pants and my waist is a 35.

    Mine is from loch carron. Ancient Buchan in my family colours. It was constructed by Paula Duncan local kilt maker here in the north of Scotland. My kilt is made by hand because it had to be, inside the kilt on the lining are the badges of all my family members regiments during the first and second world wars along with their names and ranks
