Team 18027: The Gorillabots These are our very first missions for this season. We are a little bit behind because we created a whole new robot this year and have had some challenges getting it to work. Right now, we are focusing on the easiest missions - just pushing things around. We hope to have a LOT more missions ready for the Qualifier!

This is our practice run just before the Qualifier tournament. 182 pts is our max at this point, but we hope to make things a little faster so that we can try for another mission or two in the middle. FLL Hydrodynamics - TLRC Gorillabots Practice Run - 250 points

Our last practice before the Regional Tournament this weekend! These guys have worked so hard and improved so much. They are attempting 10 missions for a total of 255 points. This last run that we recorded they missed partial score for the Tripod, so they got 250 out of 255, but the robot has been pretty reliable and is scoring max points quite often now!
FLL Hydrodynamics - 215 point run at Tallahassee Qualifier by the Gorillabots

This was their 2nd table run, and they only missed replacing the pipe, so their final score was 215. This score won them the Robot Games trophy, and they also won overall champion and are heading to Regionals!

The TLRC Gorillabots won the Tallahassee qualifier tournament this weekend and we are heading to Regionals! They are getting better at making transitions between missions and using sensors, but we still have a lot of work to do before Regionals. FLL Hydrodynamics Pre-Qualifier Table Run - 140 pts

The TLRC Gorillabots They had to re-run a long mission because the rain didn't fall out, so they ran out of time for the PUMP mission at the end. Also, they got 2 touch penalties, so their final score for this round was 140 pts. This was the pre-qualifier, so they still have a lot of work to do before the actual Qualifier Tournament in January!

Okay... Big rule change this year. That big template you set up in the launch area? You can't touch it after you launch the mission without incurring a penalty. You can only interact with items in the launch area in between missions! If possible, you should remove the template before pushing the start button.
This is very true, many rule changes this year. Be sure to understand them all. Very nice runs though
Some head referees consider jigs left in the launch area to be stranded and allowed to be touched under update RG09. This is ambiguous so check with your local rules authority.
We actually spoke to our head ref about this. He said if it's in the LAUNCH area (the mat), it cannot be touched while the robot is moving. Anything in the HOME area is free game, though. I looked back at the rules, and they support this. As long as the jig is completely in HOME, it can be moved, as long as it doesn't cross the line into the Launch area or the mat.

The last Mission should give you 40points because you had 2 floors 2x5 and three roofs 3x10
Check the mission 12 rules. Pay close attention to the example pictures(specifically the far left one.)

The qualifier was held here in Tallahassee for the first time this year. (Technically, it was Monticello.) It was last weekend. Check some of the newer videos on my channel to see all the improvements we made!

Great job, Gorillabots! Congratulations, Vance! It looks like you don't have much time left to complete other missions. I hope you can find a way to combine two missions in one in order to get more time.
Yes! We have a lot of optimization to do. We've talked this past week about re-doing the first run completely because it takes so long. The kids have come up with several ideas to make it much faster and even include the FLOW mission so they don't have to run it separately. They also want to attempt the WATER TREATMENT mission (flushing the toilet) during the last run. It should be pretty simple to add an arm to hit that, we just ran out of time leading up to the tournament.

You can also get penalty's for working on your bot outside of base.

just today our ref gave us a penalty for it. Darn it!
Yes, if you touch the robot at all while any part of the robot is sticking outside of base, it's a touch penalty. Some judges may be more lenient than others, but if we are reading the rules right, you can't touch any part of the robot unless it is completely inside base.

Yeah, that's the solution they came up with, and we all think it's hilarious. As you can see, it doesn't work every time, though. I will be encouraging them to solve this one differently if they can.
What is a Pre-Qualifier?
It's basically a "practice" tournament. Our teams change so much every year, it's nice to be able to do a full tournament and get feedback on areas they need to work on before the actual qualifier tournament.
I have one tomorrow it’s pretty much just practice for what the real tournament will be like
