Uniquely Utah: Panguitch: Small Town, Big History
US 89, which runs North and South through Utah, is home to scores of small towns that have their roots in Pioneer times. In this video, I visit, Panguitch, one of those small town. Terrific Texas: A Prada Boutique in West Texas
มุมมอง 1.9Kปีที่แล้ว
Take a drive through west Texas, and you may be surprised to run across a Prada boutique in the middle of the outback. With absolutely nothing around it, this lonely consideration of abject materialism and consumerism can be quite surprising to run across. (Does ANYONE really visit this spot on purpose?) Take a short drive with me as I show you how I ran across this spot completely by accident....
Amazing Wyoming: The Lincoln Highway and the Lincoln Monument
มุมมอง 1.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Travel along I-80 through eastern Wyoming, between Laramie and Cheyenne, and you can't help but notice a huge bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln on the north side of the freeway. In this video I provide the history behind the Lincoln bust and the original 3,000-mile monument to Lincoln that it symbolizes. The Lincoln Highway, long-since replaced by I-80, is the original transcontinental highway, an...
Amazing Wyoming: Independence Rock, the Register of the Desert
มุมมอง 4.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
One of my travels this summer took me to Independence Rock, a beacon on the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, the California Trail, and the Pony Express. The landmark is quite impressive, and vistors can still climb the rock to this day and see inscriptions from countless travelers from the 1800s. In this video I explain the significance of Independence Rock, climb to the top, and show a good num...
Amazing Wyoming: My Favorite Place on Earth
มุมมอง 1.9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I've been to a lot of places in the United States. At last count I've been in over 40 states, and I've even been to four other countries. I'm not as widely traveled as some, but I have traveled more than a lot of people I know. Every one of the places I've lived and visited has been beautiful, each with its own character and charm. I've met great people, eaten great food, and seen great sights....
Moab Area: Visiting Dead Horse Point State Park
มุมมอง 15K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In the busy destination area of Moab, Utah, there's a state park that is too easily overlooked. It is easy to focus solely on Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, but Dead Horse Point State Park should not be missed. It provides breathtaking views of deep canyons, beautiful red rock, and the Colorado River. One day in March 2022, I visited Dead Horse Point State Park, and in this...
Spectacular Arizona: Visiting Lee's Ferry, Navajo Bridge, and the Vermilion Cliffs
มุมมอง 41K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The northern portion of Arizona, known as the Arizona Strip, is an amazing area, with stunning vistas and a fascinating history. Modern roads and automobiles have made this area relatively easy to visit, but historically it is one of the most inacessible areas in the country. In this video I take you to three amazing areas in the Arizona Strip-Lee's Ferry, Navajo Bridge, and the Vermilion Cliff...
Greetings from Kanab, Utah!
มุมมอง 20K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In February 2022 I was traveling through Kanab, Utah, as I had done scores of times over the past several decades. During this stop, I recorded some of my thoughts about the town. I share why I think that Kanab is a great place to visit. The red rock that rims the town is stunning, and there is lots to see and do in the town and surrounding areas. By the way, the name "Kanab" is a Paiute word t...
Amazing Wyoming: Visiting a Wyoming Ghost Town
มุมมอง 5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Not far from where I live is the authentic Wyoming ghost town of Piedmont. I've visited the area often, taking visitors who are interested in our area. The history of the town is haunting. (That's a play on the designation "ghost town." Did you catch that?) Wyoming has a formidable climate, and nowhere is that more evident than in a visit to Piedmont.

Cedar is a nice place, definitely larger than Kanab. However, there is mountain range between Cedar and the national parks, so you'll spend more time driving than you would if you stayed in one of the towns (like Kanab) that are east of the mountains.

Hey, this was a really delightful video. I'm going to try to spend some time in Panguitch next time I'm in Utah. I also really appreciated the info on the quilt walk. Must have been so slow, or perhaps they came up with some good ways to speed up the pace. Thanks!

Thanks, Jeff! It took them two weeks, walking on the quilts, to go the approximately 60-mile round-trip. And, since they were carrying supplies, the trip back from Parowan was slower than the trip to Parowan.

I am interested in climbing & photographing the Missouri Buttes, which are nearby. Are they on private or public land? Are there any parking areas near the base of the Buttes? Should hikers be concerned with running into black bears? Thank you.

    • @travelingwithallen8637
      @travelingwithallen8637 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm not the expert on the Missouri Buttes, but I think they may be on private land. They are not a national monument, that's for sure. Black bears aren't a huge issue in the area.

Good Morning from Spain!! Just goes to show you that there is history all around us. Very enjoyable to watch I always enjoy reading the introductions to your weekly excel tips spreadsheet, its how I found your channel. Very interesting to see the quilts and hear you relate the story. By strange coincidence this last week through the wonders of the interent we have been in touch again with our cousins in the USA, my late fathers sister, my aunt moved there in the sixties. The last time I was in touch with my Aunt was when we got married and she gifted us an embroidered quilt, this far too long ago. She would have embroidered this in connecticut though!! I hope all is well with you I know this last year has been very difficult All the best

Splendid photography of this unique National and Western treasure, which remains immortalized; almost exactly as it was when the Pioneers when through. I traveled the old road too, long ago and each visit now is nostalgic as well as beautiful. I hope those precious signatures last forever, protected. Good job.

I drove across the old bridge in the 1980's, when going to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. It was quite narrow, and was signed as a one lane bridge. I think it was wide enough to allow two cars to pass each other, but not trucks.
