Bren Veziroglu is the founder of San Francisco Movement Group. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biology from Brandeis University and is currently pursuing a masters degree from San Jose State University in Kinesiology. He currently holds two state powerlifting records and is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and Certified USA Weightlifting Coach.
Bren has studied Movement intensively with the best teachers in the world for over nine years in a variety of disciplines. He continually strives to improve his skills in order to become a better mover-both for the benefit of himself and for his students. His skillsets now include a strong background in strength training, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, hand balancing, contemporary dance, Contact Improvisation, and Meditation.

Play This Game to Build Mobility
There’s a revolution happening in science that is changing the way we understand and teach movement, and I’ve been working on a documentary about it for over a year now.
While you wait, here's a game that takes advantage of these new insights to develop mobility in particular, as well as balance, and even some strength, in a fun and engaging way.
With a partner, set a timer for 5 minutes. You'll give them a target to touch (i.e. your hand), and your partner has to touch a body part of your choice to that target for the full 5 minutes continuously. They'll stay within one of 4 categories of positions: standing, on all fours chest up, on all fours chest down, and bridge. Switch through different working positions within each set, and feel free to add extra constraints or instructions for your partner as well (i.e. follow my hand with your left hand and right foot.
Working partner should only touch the floor with their hands and feet (outside of the bridge for those less mobile who may need to touch down with their head and upper back.
Challenge your partner to push for more range and they will develop it. Have mercy when needed, get creative and non-linear. Enjoy!

@@laylahope. Hey layla, of course! However, lower body strength is not demanded for rock climbing. (not at a high level)
For strength you need to do hard things. You cannot do hard things every day. High Intensity is in antithesis with high volume. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Hi Marinca, your point makes alot of sense on paper, but the reality and the scientific literature both differ. First, there is no established upper limit for volume of maximum strength gains, and strength gains are associated with volume. Muscle gain even more so. Second, the bulgarian method, and the success of legendary coaches like Ivan Abadjiev, would not exist if that was the case.
@BrenTeachesMovement I don't see any scientific credentials unfortunately. Tell me how you do high volume HSPU without busting your shoulders. You can do high volume of handstand and low intensity weights indeed.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I know many will have their difficulties with it as it’s very objectionable to how we view reality, although I think it may only scratch the surface. Have you seen the works of Bernardo Kastrup or Donald Hoffman? It feels like it’s a natural progression.
Truth is not always easy to digest the first or even the second time around. Being sincere, clear, and specific with key questions makes this video a pleasure to hear, shows what you’d love to see happen and shows respect. Kudos for a well formulate and thoughtful video.

Why does the first guy have 2 watches?
To the point. (Euclid) Postulate 5: Given a line and a point not on the line, exactly one line can be drawn through the point that is parallel to the line. Point: A point is something that has no part Parallel lines (Postulate 5) can join two points, by constructing two chiral moebius strips. Moebius strips, which each have one edge. By joining those two edges a body is created that has no edge. However, this creates an exception at a single point. That point however is not defined by Euclid's definition of a point. The point exists on two lines, both of which are/were parallel lines on a flat page. The human eye is constructed as a klein bottle, which is defined by the above body defined above. Note 1. The "information" gathered the human eye passes through the Euclidian point defined above. Note 2. The human hands (hand heart emoji) form the same "point" as the junction of two chiral moebius strips. Newtons third law is recovered by sliding an object around a moebius strip through 360 degrees.
The external ears are moebius strips. Hence hearing is enhanced by the hands, which are moebius strips as described in another comment.
Light enters the fascia system, which is a fiber optic system directly connecting all tissues including muscle.

It sounds like you want to blow up the movement and Ido is more interested in practice. Looking from the outside it seems a bit like sour grapes. The practice of it seems very advanced and difficult for a majority of population. I know that I have looked at it a bit and the idea seems interesting but to actually do it is very difficult and high level.
I subscribed to you a while back when I first discovered the Movement Culture because I really liked your perspective and practice of movement. At the time, I didn't know much about what perception & "movement" really was, it just felt intuitive and that there was truth to what you were saying in comparison with the popular understanding of fitness and exercise. Fast forward to now, I've been reading a lot of papers and books on the interesect between neuroscience and movement, and I stumbled upon embodied cognition. Crazy how all that digging took me full circle back to your channel! Currrently reading Annie Murphy Paul's "The Extended Mind," touches on a lot of what was covered in this conversation. Great stuff and super underrated, I feel like I should be paying for this!

I like the idea...What's the aim with respect to keeping balance? Should you remain cautious and avoid losing balance, or is pushing the limits of balance a feature, so that you will often find yourself becoming unbalanced and needing to steady yourself, or even fall and need to break your fall?
Excellent question, yes that's exactly right- pushing the limits of balance is a feature and exactly how we develop balance. There is an element of strength endurance of the muscles of the toes & feet that won't be challenged if you're falling too often, but yes we really want to challenge everything here, and balance becomes a bit novel as we get into some more creative and end range positions.
How do you learn or work with ido portal if you are far away ?
Very nice! Sounds really fun and tough, especially to keep going for 5 min. I'm a bit confused about "Switch through different working positions within each set", so just to check if I understood correctly: - Each set is 5 min - They stay in one category of positions, e.g. bridge - You choose a target (e.g. your hand), and you choose a body part of theirs that should touch the target. - Switch target or body part (or both) when it feels right during the set? - Optional: play around with different constraints. Did I get it right?
Yes, so that's all correct, but when you phrase it like that, 'play around with different constraints' is HIGHLY recommended, as long as it's done well (shouldn't get confusing, overly restrictive, or detract from task focus). The switch positions during each set just means that people are going to fatigue each position within each set, and you want to switch between those 4 categories somewhat based around that.
That also makes the 5 minutes pretty easy depending on your partner :).

Thank-you for this excellent chance to hear from two people we don't see / hear much from and (imho) desperately need more of :) I have been applying Ecological Dynamics / Skill Acquisition work to horse training for about a decade now (though I started my Eco Psych path based on applying Eleanor's work to teaching computer science. I had no idea it applied to movement until I stumbled on Rob Gray's podcast).
