In this video, I discuss my grid down testing of the pecron E3600LFP with 4 EP3000 expansion batteries.
PECRON E3600LFP with 4 EP3000's real-world testing!
มุมมอง 2.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Well, the four expansion batteries are here! I've had 'em for about a week. Charge them up to 100%, and now it's time for some real-world testing. In this test, I start with a 99% state of charge and will attempt to run a refrigerator and deep freezer for 4 days with no charging input as an endurance test. During hurricane helene, I went four days without electricity. Rough calculations suggest...
Pecron E3600LFP post Hurricane update
มุมมอง 17K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I give my thoughts on how the unit performed for the storm. I also highlight some of my challenges. Then, I follow up with a real-time generator charging test. I'm kind of surprised how well the audio came out with a cell phone and a running generator. Yes, I know. I'm breathing heavy. Cause I moved everything into place right before I started shooting the video... 😆 Please like, comment, share...

Pecron E3600LFP shock hazard

I was curious about the wattage that was being input into the Pecron E3600LFP. I hooked up my kilowatt meter to the plug and accidentally touched the prongs and got shocked. Has anyone else experienced this or tested for this?
17% charge left over...you still have 510 watts of power remaining....why not use it?
Pecker on? Pec Ron. You just lost a viewer.
A man with 4 expansion batteries is a wealthy man. 😅❤
Try A1 solar they have locations throughout the country if you want brand new panels at wholesale prices. They have a location in Jacksonville and Savanna. You can buy 1 or a 100 doesn't matter. I bought their 400 watt qcells from them. Brand new out of the box with a 25 yr. warranty for 185 bucks each a couple of years ago. I use them on my pecrons including that e3600 you have. They have clearance sales where you can get panels all different manufactures dirt cheap and brand new. Just got to watch their website it changes a lot.
You need to set up some ground mounts with 400 watt or bigger panels.
I plan on getting 12, 400w panels. I still need to do a site evaluation to determine where the best location is. I may get 2 dual axis tracking mounts for 8 of the panels.
@ you can get alot more wattage with extra panels than pay for the tracking systems. If space is not available then the tracking system is a option. I tried both, more panels the better.
This is true. Could do well with just a few more panels vs a tracker. @markhunt6573
What state are u in? I have the e3600lfp with 4 batteries, I use 3 renogy 400watt foldable panels , I get around 1100 watts in series. Keep the vids coming. 👍🏻🇺🇸
I'm in SE Georgia.
i'm going to run a test, but didn't yet -- saved you 11:37
Very nice man - thinking of that Pecron myself - good value. How's that starlink work?
I love it! I've had the Starlink Gen 2 for 3 years now. I powered with my Pecron E3600LFP all through hurricane Helene. 99% of my county lost power and cell service. The Starlink satellite system just keeps improving with better speed and bandwidth. Not a single regret in buying it.
I would love to try that Pecron E3600LFP with the extra batteries.
I just got my e3600 a few weeks back loving it.
Came back for a second viewing since I just got my e3600 9kWh system put together and fully charged via grid 120 AC. I intend to use my 2500w dual fuel (using propane) generator/inverter to charge it for extended outages. It only has 120v outputs that will be used, and on propane it only has 1665 running watts. So I had questions regarding the e3600 charging levels that you demonstrated. Have you come to any conclusions since you made this video?
@rod2625 The power output of the E3600LFP will be limited by the output and surge capacity of the portable generator. So, while the E3600LFP is charging, it will not provide the rated output of 3600/7200W. If you connect to a power source that can match that, it will work just fine.
Hey man, I love the videos and the shorts and I subscribed to your channel. I’m thinking about buying this unit and the expansion battery so any video you put out I’ll definitely be watching.
Thanks for subscribing! In the next month or so, I will be setting it up at my new homestead to run my RV. I will also be adding 4130W of solar panels. I haven't seen anyone actually do it.
=Ordered this unit for Pecron a week ago and not yet shipped. Pecron said shipping label created 6 days ago but FedEx has not received unit to ship. Pecron is blaming delay on FedEx which is bullshit. Pecron customer service is crap. No longer sure I wish to expand this system, that is if I ever receive my 3600.
I had a similar issue with my order. The E3600LFP actually shipped about 2 weeks after the shipment notification was received. I had a the same issue when they shipped all 4 of my expansion batteries.
Hi - I can't offer any actual experience :) but I would keep an eye on it. If the voltage went any higher I might get it looked at by an electrician if I had this unit.....
Can’t unsee the sticky pad with roaches on it😳
😂 It's a rental house. The previous renters left the place a huge mess. I've got them just about gone. I'll be documenting the constitution of my new homestead on 14 acres. Roach free! 🎉
Disconnect the host from the expansion batteries and charge to expansion battery level then charge everything together to balance.
Just got 1 at a great price. Seems like a good unit.
Hey thanks for the video, I have the Pecron E3600LFP, and will receive my EP3000 Extra battery tomorrow so I do not have much experience with extra batteries yet, but I have done alot of research from others that do have them, you should check out Ramblin Bob's channel he has the entire system like you do and tests extensively, I have learned alot from his channel alone, check it out if you like, one thing you should do is charge all your batteries 100% it wont hurt this type of batteries but they balance out, just set it to charge at 100% and leave it charging a day or two and keep checking your battery health and you will start to see the volt numbers increase on each cell and you will also see each cell start to balance out, again the system does this all automatically for you just set it to 100% charge. keep them videos coming and stay strong and encouraged!
Appreciate your video, first I have seen testing using a generator for charging a 3600. I currently have a Champion 2500w dual fuel generator (2) 120 outputs. Originally purchased it to charge an Pecron e600 and Ecoflow 256wh unit. Just ordered the E3600 and (2) ep3000s. Using propane my Champion will run 30+ hours (I have 3 tanks). I will install a 10 circuit manual transfer switch, all 15 and 20 amps. Happy to hear your unit ran frig and freezers 24 hours.
Re your AC... Did you have eco mode turned OFF on the generator to handle the initial surge? Hearing it ramp up like that says it's on eco which is what the issue is... You can then turn eco back on AFTER it's running
My 1 ton portable AC has a surge of 4930 watts. The E3600LFP handles this just fine. My Westinghouse iGen 4500DF only handles a surge of ~4500 Watts. I'll try it again with the eco mode turned off. My other generator will handle it, but it's not as efficient.
@hickshomestead113 yes... The pecron does, BUT the pecron isn't providing the power at that moment, it's providing PASS THROUGH power... Which means it's the generator handling the load and the pecron doesn't take over in time, hence the eco mode causing the issue. I hope it works!
Just ordered the 3600 head unit and 1 extra battery. Like an idiot, I ordered the wrong (24v) battery. A nice lady from Pecron messaged me and ask me if I really wanted the 24v or the 48v that works with my 3600. She saved me a world of hassle! I'm hoping my 3600 will keep the hurricanes and ice storms away!
Any luck in finding the Pecron recommended cabling sequence? Will order the 3600 and (3) 3000 batteries this week. I am also exploring the best manual transfer switch for these units. Again not much info available. Currently thinking between a 6-10 circuit transfer switch.
Charge to 100%, they aren't lithium ion, LiFePo4 will handle being at 100 just fine esp if it's in a situation where you need to have the power available. As for cycles and life, you'll probably lose more in shelf life over 10 years than you'll lose from cycling them. Not sure how Pecron does their balancing but likely a passive balancer that burns power off cells that are high when it gets to a full charge. LiFePo4 charge curve is VERY flat, looking at voltages for how full something is won't work out very well. Set your charge limit to 100%, charge up and check cell balance after a day or two. Wonder if they give any balancing status info, that'd be nice to know.
The IC engine will get more efficient on higher loads. But the charge retention of the batteries get less efficient. So its about the same. But could be a minor difference. Good video! What is the external dimensions of the unit and how heavy is it? I have looked on the website but could not find that information.
Its Pecron, not a Pecker-on!😅😅😅
Surprised you were not using propane instead of gas.
Hmm, I only have the E3600 and a single EP3000. And they stay much more close together. I wonder if you had them connected more sequentially if it would make a difference, like 1 connected to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4….
Pec-ron
Great video! I have two e3600's on the way with the 240v Parallel kit. I'm hoping to power my entire house with them along with a genmax 10500 inverter generator, and maybe some solar in the future. Glad you made it through Helene, we got hit pretty hard in my area, and I was totally unprepared. That's what sent me down this "backup plan" rabbit hole.
I like your videos and this test. Keep up the great postings! I also purchased the e36000 plus 1 expansion battery which is currently in shipment. This after we had a power outage of 59 hrs. and had to throw out most of our stuff. I Decided to go this route instead of a generator. I think you said you have no solar yet; I do not. And again no generator. I am curious as to how you charged your ep3000 batteries? For me 30 hours using the car or truck battery is of course too impractical. But, I have heard it's best to charge the host battery to 100% set it aside. Then charge the expansion battery to 100% before putting them together. This was a video I saw on Amazon reviews and it was the Pecron e2000 which comes with the (brick) charging system. He also claimed it was important (recalibrating) * my term; the Host e2000. I don't want to degrade my new generator/ batteries out of the gate after I get them. Anyone reading this if I charge both e3600 and ep3000 together at the same time after receiving them will that do either unit harm? degrade is what I mean
I don’t have any expansion batteries yet but I can confirm that my e3600lfp top balances at 100% If I were you I would fully charge the entire stack until current draw has dropped to zero and stayed there to fully balance all cells then repeat the test, at least partially, discharging to 50ish% for your storage, depending on how long that will be. With the flat discharge curve of lfp and the cells likely not balanced, the main unit is probably not getting a completely accurate picture of the expansion batteries state. As another commenter said, watch the latest videos from Will Prowse about cycling lfp batteries for solar.
Mine never goes to 100%. It hit 99% with 1 minute of charge time left but just stays there and never hits 100%. I remember waiting like 8 minutes at 99% charging at 1800 watts. It got to 55.2 volts on the batteries.
So 1st thing, don’t be afraid to cycle your batteries from 100% to 0% lipo4 is not like nmc or other lithium. Secondly always charge to 100% to balance all your cells. I have the same set up in the same battery configuration, and your main unit will not hit zero and turn off, it will stay on until all batteries are zero and then turn off and that is one cycle for all batteries. I used this battery bank off grid all summer in my RV with 2000 watts of solar and it never got below 50%. I also have 4 portable 400 watt panels that I can plug directly into the batteries and they are only 47 volts open circuit so no problem bringing in solar 2 the extra batteries. I never had to use them. 2000 watts into main unit on my 30amp trailer was fine. Hope this helps.
For 5300 I will want to use more than 60% of the capability. I might get myself one of these I like how fast I can charge it from a 30 amp generator. They have their place and the price just keeps coming down which is great.
Watch Will Prowse recent video on these lifepo4 batterys. You don't need to do the 80 20 thing. He says they will not balance if you don't bring them to 100%. Since you are going to store these 50% is ideal for storage. Food for thought.
Completely AGREE!!! ❤❤❤
I think his strongest point there was you paid for 100% of your battery. Worrying about maintaining that 100% at the expense of not using a significant portion is like the proverbial body found in desert with a half full canteen.
@@Senthiuz Agreed! It's like the kid who gets a football for xmas but doesn't want to get it dirty. I think his other point was these are not lead acid battery's so stop using them like they are.
It could be the inverter draw on the main unit. I have the same unit with 4 batteries and love it! I use it in my rv. Mine does the same as yours so that’s what I think. Anyway keep the vids coming 👍🏻🇺🇸
Have you been using them normally ?
I did during the Hurricanes as a UPS. This is the first testing of the full battery pack.
I meant the fridge and freezer, definitely using a lot more power putting warm stuff inside, opening closing
@@arthur1670 Yes, trying to get a realistic estimate how long it can run in a worse case event.
You said, "15 kilowatts", it's actually 15 kilowatt HOURS. Big difference. Batteries are rated in energy content which is power times time. Kilowatts are actually per second of power but that's not energy content, it's just instantaneous power. I'm sure you know the difference but I just wanted to point that out.
🤓
A word of advice. Have at least some solar capacity, and test it now. I learned the hard way that I didn’t have everything I needed to properly charge my batteries.
That's the goal once I close on my new homestead!
I have two of them set up for 240VAC for my house. Main reason I did this was to not have cords running though my house. I also don't have solar yet so I recharge them with a 57VDC chargverter and my generator when I need to. I have to do this because Pecron shut off the both the 15amp and 30amp AC inputs while in 240VAC mode. That's the only thing I don't like about the E3600LFPs.
Pecron does this because people will try to use it as a UPS but these are NOT "Grid Interactive" inverters, meaning the inverter inside these units can't detect what the grid phasing is and then "tune" to be synchronized to that signal.
@@offgridgarageUSA That makes sense, never though of it that way.
hick have you ever been unfaithful to your wife
He has
I run my fridge and chest freezer 24/7 with the e2000 and 2 expandable batterys. That is a 8kw system thats running for a year and a half now. The e3600 will be my next investment. Like you said the great thing about these pecrons is the number of charge controllers you get plus they have good voltage limits as well. You will never need to use your generator with this. If you do it would take a lot of extended bad days of solar.
I would put the refrigerator on a timer ⏲️. CDC stated food is safe in the refrigerator up to 4 hours after that it should be discarded. It would greatly decrease your power consumption.
I have thought about that, but in this application it isn't as efficient. If I was using only a generator, that would make sense. However, since the Pecron power station functions like the grid would, it is more efficient to maintain the recommended setpoints, vs allowing them to warm and re-cool. It takes more energy to change temperature than it does to maintain. I learned that lesson with my HVAC system.
@ Fair enough.
Wait until you have a problem with it and find out that Pecron has NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, not even a phone number you can call. They do have an email address that if you're inquiring about buying their product they respond to right away, but if you email about a problem, it's radio silence from them.
You can adjust the AC charging amps!
What did you get going 70mph?
It drops to less than 10MPG because of air resistance. I only tow at 55mph or less.
First off, happy you're safe after Helene. That is the nice thing about these battery units. They're just flexible and allow you to extend what you already have. Need to conserve fuel? AWESOME, run the generator for a bit and then run the battery till the next day (depends on your loads, of course). Need to do some cooking while charging? Well the units will pass through power so you can use an electric stove while charging up! Super nice! We got an Ecoflow and made it through Milton doing this exact thing of charging once a day and then not needing the generator anymore for the rest of the day (we have to run an AC unit for a family member but didn't have to run it TOO much). Now we're thinking about what happens if an outage runs longer than a week or two weeks and are going to get solar panels to help make our gas/propane last much longer.
Are you measuring the A/C PLUG of the Pecron. If so, I can say it is back feeding because your kiil-a-watt meter is powered on.
It doesn't even when the kilowatt is not plugged in. I'll update it in a new video. When my new batteries show up
We really like this system, we have the full e3600lfp (15,360wh) and have been running it on our channel for the last 2 months 24-7 :) P.S. Good video :)
@RamblinBobReviews have you tried utilizing the extra solar inputs on the batteries? When I spoke to a pecron on representative, they said you could add solar to those batteries and increase your power input by 1600W.
@@hickshomestead113 YES, and it is amazing power input for such a small system..... We have been doing it this way for a year (ever since the e1500lfp) 1. pecron e3600lfp (xt-60 port #1) 1,200 watts (32v-150v) 2. pecron e3600lfp (xt-60 port #2) 1,200 watts (32v-150v) 3. pecron e3600lfp (barrel port) 150 watts (12v-30v) 4. ep2000 #1 battery (5 pin aviation port) 400 watts (32v-95v) 5. ep2000 #2 battery (5 pin aviation port) 400 watts (32v-95v) 4. ep2000 #3 battery (5 pin aviation port) 400 watts (32v-95v) 4. ep2000 #4 battery (5 pin aviation port) 400 watts (32v-95v) For an EYE POPPING total of 4,150 watts !!!!! (So you can charge this bad boy in only 4-5 hours) P.S. You should really watch more of our videos....We have been showing people this for a long time on the channel :) P.P.S. And make sure that you join the scriber family while you are there :)
@@hickshomestead113 Yes, we have been doing this since we bought the e3600lfp full set, we have a video coming out soon showing how you can get to 4,150 watts !!!!!
I like using a 48V 50Ah (or 100Ah) battery to directly into the solar port 500W or more. Real cheap expansion.
Excellent demo. Love that E3600, 3 solar inputs is cool.
