Yachts | Turkey Trots | BOUFFANTS? | Our Thanksgiving! | EP10
In this weeks episode we share our Thanksgiving extravaganza on the seas of West Florida. Lindsey and I visit a marina only a few hours from us that we have never taken our boat to before, and I must say we are shocked that it's not the talk of the dock. We motor down from the Tampa Bay Area to just north of Sarasota Florida on our Riviera Sport Yacht in search of turkey.
Lindsey thought it would be fun for you all to watch us suffer through a Turkey Trot ... I may have disagreed but you can tell by the thumbnail who won that debate. After the suffering had commenced we filled our holiday with some fun adventures that we thought were worth sharing.
We hope you enjoy this episode. I have to just put in this description to everyone who took the time to watch our last video we could not be more appreciative or humbled. Never in a million years would we have imagined that at this stage we would have a film with 100k views. I feel given the subject of this weeks video it is fitting to tell you all that we are thankful for your investment in us with your most valuable asset... your time.

While many couples with our style boat primarily enjoy marina stays, we deviate from the norm just a little. good stuff and I'm glad your having fun, since any comment helps your channel I'd like to point out that leaving for an extended cruise after mechanical work or anytime someone is in your engine room @ 1500 on a Friday might not be advised for everyone who boats, I'd call you guys boaters. I have to many examples to share why this isn't the best choice however I really liked that you did your engine room checks throughout the journey . Traveling at night isn't like setting the cruise control on the a highway. There are plenty of dangers on the open waters and one of the most important things to do at the help at night ( helm = your are the captain in charge of the vessel ) is to dilate your eyes so you have as much visibility as possible. That means everything around you should be as dark as possible including your Displays. Bright or dim white light at anytime isn't recommended. Everything should be as dark as possible, I would not advise doing that trip with a new moon without more experience since being offshore means it is completely dark ( black ) at night vs a half to full moon which gives you some reflection on the water at night so you can avoid the many items floating in the water including debris fields your encounter between tide lines, Fisherman love to put buoys at their favorite fishing holes way out in the gulf, commercial long liners have all their gear out there not to mention all the crab pots in S FLA. and more. If you snag a line at slower speeds your most likely going to have to dive under the boat and cut it loose, at cruise speed on your boat you might get lucky and the line will snap which has happened for me a few times. They have some nice super lightweight self inflatable lifejackets with epirb's I'd strongly recommend you wear if your traveling all night or going far from shore especially with just 2 people onboard. I'm not a safety nut but seeing the lights on in your cabin and the screens so bright even for short periods tells me you just haven't learned the hard way yet about how quickly things go bad. it's great that your having fun and sharing but your only a second away from a major problem that more time on the water will teach you. I've been on an express cruiser your size in 4' seas... Keep in mind the wave height is measured on the back side of the wave It was fun seeing you treat this trip like you were in a camper going down the highway on cruise control :) there are many reasons you both got that headache during the trip. My only comment on that is a shorter trip to the engine room when it's rough out especially if you have a side to side movement vs forward and back. Side to side will make you feel sick faster I hope you get more replies from my comments

    • @The71Percent
      @The71Percent 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for taking the time to put effort into your comment. Happy to reply to your concerns. Some of them are interesting and warranted and some of them are not. First off the mechanical side of things. The entire reason we were in Destin vs PCB was because I refused after major repair to set off into the ocean with the two loves of my life aboard. So instead we took several days causing the safe ICW and monitoring everything in between. Even to the extent of having the mechanic drive 2 hours one way in order to do a health check on the work he had just performed. The part you saw that was replaced last minute was an external spring valve being a single plug that not only had a minimal chance of having issues after the fact but was also something I could have very easily tackled in that event. I had him bring extras which I had aboard during the trip. Redundant engines, redundant parts and a captain that in a different life builds some of the highest tech race engines in the world for a living. I was confident in my decision and still am. The light and safety off shore My other hobby is aviation. I am a pilot and have gone through extensive nighttime flying training. You think being at sea at night is dangerous, try flying a single engine plane in the pitch black. The screens were on their dimmest setting and in night mode all night long, the camera's job is to inject any light possible. What you are seeing on screen is not what I was seeing in the cabin. Also why I used the red light instead of the overhead LEDs when filming as you saw in the video. No overhead lights were turned on during the overnight at all.. not one. As for safety, I have a life raft with an epirb, personal epirbs, vests with them and the boat has two epirbs in case of emergency. We also have starlink with a service that allows us to flag distress if needed. Keep in mind on the sea state that the largest seas were at night... when I was more focused on watching what was going on in the ocean than filming *wink* Headache and engine room checks Did I share the data about how many minutes I did or did not spend in the engine room and forgot about it? I can't remember putting it in the video but I can assure you that I was down there as little time as possible to ensure the systems were running property. Both because of the knowledge of sea sickness and safety. I can't imagine driving a camper down the highway on cruise control like you can drive a vessel offshore hundreds of miles form land... pretty sure one could not even get to the toilet without smashing into the next bridge. :) All of that said, and in all seriousness I do appreciate the advice and concern all be it with some snarky sarcasm. And I am new to the offshore life so all the CONSTRUCTIVE criticism I can get I will take. I don't take journeys like this anymore lightly than I do any of the other extreme things I have done for my entire life. I will continue to get smarter, more experienced people will teach me as well as experience. However your obviously assumption that I am some yacht club yuppy thinking I'm as safe as a bug in a rug on my express yacht in the middle of the ocean is a false one. Cheers and thanks for the comment. I hope you subscribe :)

    SO glad I found your channel! I have been looking at purchasing a Riviera Belize Coupe. Looking forward to seeing your experiences with your Riviera! Don't skip over the technical boat stuff, its not boring, we are keen to see the real side of cruising on an express cruiser!

    • @The71Percent
      @The71Percent วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! I’m glad you found it to. Ok so… we LOVE the look and quality of the Belize. We almost bought one. But when we spent a good amount of time in one we decided no. A couple reasons. First was the master bedroom. The different levels on the floor with no pattern and head room at places just drove us crazy. Then the helm, I couldn’t stand moving every single time Lindsey wanted in and out of the companion seat… it was so annoying. Then the third and the biggest one was no stabilization. They put almost no sea keepers in them and the way we like to cruise that would have been horrible. I have dedicated a half decade to knowing everything there is to know about express boats in this space.. if you ever need to bounce ideas off anyone let me know.. I can talk very granularly with you. Email in our profile. Cheers and thanks for the comment! Also, The next two videos don’t have a ton of the boat in them but we will for sure do more tech stuff now that people are asking. Hope you still enjoy.

    I enjoyed the trip with you from the Panhandle to Tampa . You would have enjoyed the Intracoastal from Panama City to Appalachacola. I did it a couple of times running a 72' Shrimper with 8' draft. Your skills as a Mariner were obvious in the last vidio preparing for the storm and getting through it. The spirit with which you handled observing the damage as you neared home and the reverence shown for the thousands of victims , from FL thuough NC, was awesome. Fair Winds!

    How would having a trawler type yacht with the slower speed versus your Riveria have effected you guys in the running from these last two hurricanes? Keep up the great work. You guys are killing it with the channel!

    • @The71Percent
      @The71Percent วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MB4wd great question! That answer is no I don’t. Milton we didn’t go over displacement speeds anyway. Helene honestly I procrastinated the decision because I “could” and I shouldn’t have. Personally I think the trawler would just make me a smarter captain. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on a boat that can go fast.. obviously I invested in one. But I don’t think it will change our cruising or our ability to avoid danger. Thank you for the kind words. We are blown away at the response the channel has gotten recently. Very unexpected.
