Night Snorkel with Alligators in a Florida Spring
For the past year, I have been working on a photography project at night in one of Florida's springs. This windy evening, my friend Hunter (OldFloridaVibes) and I ventured out to see what wildlife was present in the spring after dark. I honestly wasn't expecting to see much, but turns out there were alligators, a snapping turtle, fish, and crabs all hanging out in the spring. Sorry for the delayed upload - power outages from Hurricane Helene set me back a little bit.

Underwater With Baby Alligators in the Florida Prairie
มุมมอง 4.6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
After waiting out a bit of rough weather, my friend Nick and I spent the night exploring a freshwater pond in the middle of the Florida prairie that just so happened to be home to a handful of juvenile alligators. The entire evening proved to be filled with wildlife, including a surprising bear encounter and loads of mosquitos. Thank you so much for 2.5k subscribers!! Every like and every sub h...
Night Snorkel in a Crystal Clear Florida River
มุมมอง 363Kหลายเดือนก่อน
After a big rainstorm, my friend Nick and I set out to explore one of Florida's spring-fed rivers at night. The weather ended up being fantastic, and we saw an amazing array of wildlife and aquatic plants. It's always refreshing to see some of Florida's springs still lush with submerged aquatic vegetation as groundwater contamination from agricultural runoff threatens many of them with nitrogen...
Snorkeling for a Rare Turtle in the Florida Flats
มุมมอง 5K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Myself and my friends (Nick, Bill, and Nick's dad) journeyed out along Florida's Gulf Coast with the hopes of finding a rarely seen turtle species - the diamondback terrapin. We also encountered a lot of unexpected wildlife along the way from dolphins to even a young tiger shark. This was easily one of the wildest saltwater habitats I have ever explored, and I'm super thankful to Nick for invit...
Backpacking to a Remote Florida Spring
มุมมอง 6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
In late May, my friend Nick and I packed our free diving gear and underwater camera rigs into our backpacks and trekked out to a remote Florida spring in the middle of nowhere. There may not be any mountain passes or steep inclines, but there are still plenty of challenges facing those willing to explore the Florida backcountry, and we definitely encountered most of them. When the weather isn't...
Exploring a Florida Spring at NIGHT With a Macro Lens
มุมมอง 4.4K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's a whole new world in Florida's springs at night. Although wide-angle will forever be my favorite, it was exciting to explore the smaller details of nocturnal life in the springs through my 100mm macro lens. Although this spring was once filled with all sorts of grasses and leafy plants, it is now essentially an underwater desert. There are both environmental and human reasons for this, but...
Snorkel Review: John Pennekamp State Park Beach Entry
มุมมอง 6805 หลายเดือนก่อน
A quick review of the John Pennekamp State Park snorkel beach (Cannon Beach). Located in Key Largo, FL, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park boasts a variety of habitats and is a great introduction to Key environments. Although the best snorkeling/diving is offshore, how good is the snorkeling right at the beach entry? If you enjoy the review, drop a comment and let me know where I should revie...
Filming Wild Alligators Underwater in South Florida
มุมมอง 2.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Come with me on a trip to photograph and film alligators underwater in the greater Everglades ecosystem! American alligators are an iconic Florida species. Although they can get a bad rap, these living dinosaurs play a variety of important roles in their environment. Once listed as a threatened species, the Florida population is now estimated to be over 1.5 million and is considered a conservat...
Early Morning Snorkel with Manatees in a Spring
มุมมอง 1.7K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Crazy to see a manatee interacting with a snapping turtle - and I nearly floated right past it! I'm in the middle of a photography project that has had me out at the springs very early in the morning (with some occasional all-nighters). These early mornings are rough, but it gives me the chance to see some breathtaking sunrises and wildlife. Hope you enjoy spending a morning with me at the spri...
Searching for Gar in a Florida Spring
มุมมอง 9037 หลายเดือนก่อน
At the end of winter / early spring, gar gather in large numbers in Florida springs to spawn. My friend, Bill Hawthorne is an amazing underwater photographer and is working on documenting these spawning events. I went with him in hopes of capturing some behind the scenes footage for him. Although we didn't see any spawning activity, we definitely saw quite a few gar and loads of other awesome w...
This is What a Healthy Florida Spring Should Look Like
มุมมอง 1.2K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
A short-form video I made from these clips on insta received 28 million views, and I had lots of requests for longer shots of the amazing, diverse aquatic vegetation along this spring run. So here you go! Remember to tread lightly when visiting Florida's springs. Fun fact - I made the music track that plays over the underwater clips :) Shot with Canon R5 in an Ikelite 200DL housing.
Snorkeling a Wild Florida Spring
มุมมอง 9059 หลายเดือนก่อน
An amazing array of aquatic life can be found in Florida's springs. Here's some footage I shot while snorkeling down the run of a spring in North-Central Florida this past year (2023). This video was made while I was still using my old Canon 6DII in an Ikelite 200DL housing. I have since upgraded to a Canon R5 so going forward into 2024 my videos will be higher quality :)
Awesome alligator bro! You should come and visit Australia and see the 6 meter salties we have here 👍
Amazing quality. Congrats on your patience and time spent filming and editing.
@@ralb3749 Hey thank you so much! I’m in the middle of editing the next video right now and this is a really timely bit of encouragement :)
i dont know who this guy looks like, but I think its that one character from Frozen
Sweet - I'm hoping you are referring to the dude and not Olaf
@@josephrickettsphoto I would tell you, but this seems like a fun cliffhanger
@@ILS_Aviation 😅
Did he just snorkel in gator-infested water at night, that's crazy
@@gazing1459 Lol I prefer the term “gator-inhabited” but this system actually has a pretty sparse alligator population
@@josephrickettsphoto Roger that !
I loveee your contents especially those Florida sum
@@queeniealas9541 Thank you! There will always be plenty of FL vids, but the next couple will be outside FL :)
I just want to live in one of these so bad
that alligator going through sum stuff
@@Cypzzy Haha he was nervous about our boat, but he did seem a lil sad 😂
why the alligator doesn't attack at that time?
@@goodfishchannel1026 Wild alligators typically don’t see adult humans as prey. Granted, the larger the alligator the blurrier that line can become. Alligators often get a bad rap in the media, but they are not the monsters people think they are. They are powerful animals, but generally would prefer to keep their distance and be left alone. Their diet is mostly fish, turtles, birds and dead things
Only 6 minutes into the video so far, incredible video I subscrribed 😀

How do you manage to overcome the fear of jumpscares , like an aligator suddenly approcahing or else ?
@@haris.saputra. I have spent a ton of time in these systems both during the day and at night. I also have a lot of experience working with alligators as a biologist. That doesn’t make it safe, but I take a lot of precautions that get the risk down to a level I’m comfortable with
Insane content thx to both of you, ty ❤
There is something so peaceful about this content, i love it! I hope to see so much more you!

Awesome
Hurricane, Typhoon, Cyclone. They're all a tropical cyclone. They're just known by different names depending on the region they form in. They do rotate opposite direction though ( hurricane in USA v cyclone in Oz)
I seen the metal Christmas tree and knew right away where this was! Beautiful spring!
was this rainbow river?? it’s so beautiful and is such a good place to visit i love going down the river and seeing all the animals

Hey thank you so much! Keeping at it for sure :)
Do the manatees a solid and catch those placos...hehe
No motor zone as in no gas motors, your trolling motor was fine didn’t have to paddle
I might be remembering wrong, but there's a big sign in the river that has a lot of specifics on it - I think it mentions no electric/trollers too. Mainly just to make sure no one drops it too low and chops up the vegetation sense that part is an aquatic preserve
This is amazing

as someone who has been snorkelling in hot countries it’s brilliant to see what its like in crystal clear rivers, never done river diving only sea, it’s cold here in the uk and rivers are murky and dangers
@@lewiswalker713 Freshwater springs are incredible ecosystems. I wouldn’t imagine there is too much freshwater diving in the UK, but sometimes only one way to find out! Hoping to eventually travel abroad some and explore unlikely snorkel spots!
how the heck are you not worried about dem gators!? 🐊
@@TecraTube I’m familiar with this area and the gators that inhabit it. I also work with them as a biologist so I have quite a bit of experience - but we are still very alert underwater and keep an eye out for them.
Can I just say I love your enthusiasm when you saw the bear. As someone who reacts similarly to wildlife sightings this is awesome to see.😁. Your channel really shows the most precious side of our state 🌴🐊
Thank you so much! Haha I was definitely very excited - I went years without seeing any bears in FL and then the past year I have seen 4
What does it look like now? Also, this vid is fucking insane gg
@@GeneralCba It made it through Helene okay, but we’ll see about Milton
8:48 It's beautiful, some of the vegetation looks like a reed. It reminds me of this Bible verse. Does papyrus grow where there is no marsh? Do reeds flourish without water? While the shoots are still uncut, they dry up quicker than grass. Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so the hope of the godless will perish. -Job 8: 11-13 Everyone who puts their hope in Jesus Christ will never perish. God bless you all.
So cool. Thank you a lot ❤
