“Heilung” is the German word for healing, it contains the old word “heil”, which means something like luck, success! But it also applies in the context of “whole/complete” - if something is broken, you colloquially make it “heil” again (whole/complete - repair it) - in other words: "Heilung" (healing) restores the wholeness/completeness of the body/soul! It also appears in the German word for „holy“ (heilig)! But there are also opposite meanings - “Unheil” (bad luck, ruin, misfortune) or “heillos” (unsuccessful/hopeless/helpless)! If you listen to Lisa Gerrard sing "Sacrifice" "Redemption" even "Violina (Last Embrace)" her vocals are completely different deep dark lower masculine contralto chest register in a slower vibrato in contrast to this song where she uses alot of her Mezzo Soprano head voice and sped up vibrato. Even her middle calm vocals in songs like "Man on Fire" "Come Tenderness" her vocals are very defferent from this song here AND to include the three I mentioned where she's using her lower contralto register.

The sound rings through the ages to souls in need today. Healing indeed.

A cool thing to remember about this performance is that this is before the computer age. Since that is the case there are no samples used here. Every note is played by one of the three guys on the stage. As the years went by and Rush began to indulge themselves in using sampling they did cheat a little when they played this live. However, back in good old 1981 it was all done on-stage with no outside help. To this day I can't figure out how Geddy played that synth line with his foot at 7:48. That was one thing I saw them use a sample for when they played this on the R40 tour.

Haha. Great reaction. I have just loved this since the first time I heard it. It might be so that it's so bad on every level that it's actually good. :) After listening to it a couple of times I was convinced it would not be possible to play like this on purpose, it's just too much that is going wrong here. But then I saw a video, an amazing video, a live performance done just some years ago where a bunch of proper studio musicians had talked the two original singers to do a show with them. And the studio musicians played the songs exactly like the original. It was mesmerizing to watch. The amount of control the drummer needed for pretty much every stroke to be out of synch with everyone, including herself, it was incredible. :)

I thought the solo was better than David Gilmore could do.

What you’re hearing at the end is Geddy playing the bottom of his double neck as rhythm guitar and kicking bass and synth with his feet while Alex solos. I saw them do this the night after this exact concert in Ottawa Ontario on March 28th 1981. I was 17 and it still is the best concert I’ve ever seen, only rivaled by Peter frampton who played for 31/2 hours without a warm up band.

This song has a storytelling nuance with lots of transitions, Marco and Floor are amazing

First couple times I heard this I thought it was ok. Now it sends me flying. The juxtaposition of those nighttime/early morning clubbing/drugging/working class life lyrics with those Bittersweet strings. It shares a soul with Common People, especially the cover/duet between William Shatner and Joe Jackson and I love both songs wth all my heart.

I guarantee you that nothing is prerecorded. The 2nd guitar you're hearing is Geddy Lee playing the bottom guitar on his double neck bass/guitar. He's playing the bass line with his feet on the pedals. No where in the music industry will you find any better rock instrumentalists!!

In 2019 I attended the first of the five Band-Maid concerts I've seen. That show was on Kanami's birthday(Sept. 28) to a small crowd of about 250. You will never see that small a crowd ever again for Band-Maid, unless it's a small club in Japan. Yes, there were a few lean years in the beginning. I think most bands start like that.

I like it too! I love how weird it is. Love how bassy it is. Good art comforts the upset, and upsets the comfortable. While Jenny/Screech/Violet and Money Game 1,2,3, upset the comfortable (and comfort the traumatised who feel seen), Animal Flow is a much more fun upsetting song. While the Animal Farm book references are politically serious, the rest of the song is maybe a lighthearted Troll by being disgusting us with thoughts of enjoying eating like a predator flesh eating animal. Then again, that could be a serious political metaphor too. Suggesting the human race is cannibalising itself. I had to look up what ‘progressive electronica music’ is, and I found out several artists I enjoy are classified as PE! Cool.

Let me just go on ahead and make an ass of myself. Based solely on appearance, you do not have that old school Hip Hop fan about you. And that's just me being an absolute idiot and judging. Funny thing, when people see me they ALWAYS automatically assume I'm into metal or punk, which I am, but my first love is Hip Hop. I saw Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys in 97/98 and it literally changed me. Please forgive me for passing judgment on you. You're super awesome and I appreciate your insight.

For EDM/transish try Underworld’s live album, it’s very good, for more old school hip hop try Australia’s Hill Top Hoods, you might especially like their old song on TH-cam The Nosebleed Section. Most of their TH-cam stuff is newer, but they are still more old school hip hop than not.
