Just got my copy turn up. Had a game last night, loads of fun! I got the 2 player expansion as well so we can play 6 player, it all just fits in the main box as well, I've done a photo guide of how to do that on BGG 😁
I saw that on BGG!!! Crazy well done!! I’m thrilled that you found a game your game group loves!!!
@@CardboardEast honestly I'm going down an Asian game hole lol, loving your channel and rules explanations, looking forward to some of the games you bought back from Essen.
Yes, we do watch every minute - just at 1.75x, so your minute is my 35 seconds. :)
You brilliant man. You’re why cavemen painted on walls 🥹
I was one of those people who said hi, we even played Xylotar together. Thanks for that! Also, I pre-ordered Magic Number Eleven solely based on your reviews! Can't wait to play it, keep up the good work! 😊
Thanks so much for the kind words and for stopping by! I love teaching Xylotar, so I hope you had a lot of fun & I hope you enjoy MNE as much as I do! 👟⚽️🥅💥
shame about the AI art
Gen AI art is indeed a sensitive issue. It has been interesting to see how each publisher (big and small) and their fan bases have responded and reacted to Gen AI art usage-especially after seeing how crowdfunding has disrupted the industry over the last decade.
This will be the future. Some games are already being designed with AI as well.
Why you are the only one who reviewed it
I’m just awesome that way? Games from Asia don’t get as much attention as most publishers don’t have as much money to spend on marketing as publishers elsewhere. The idea of Cardboard East is to review games from “The East” and share what we find. We found this gem and needed to share it with the world.
I live in Germany and never been to Spiel, but I've seen people's hauls. Do you have to pay customs taxes for the games you get from there?
Excellent question. I believe the answer is no for the consumer but yes for the vendor. Please remember that I’m not an EU tax specialist, so please take what I say regarding this matter with a grain of salt.
Love the look of venice connections! Looking forward to you bringing it to the table and sharing it with all of us 😊
It looks sooo nice, right?! I’ve been really impressed with Playte!
Comparing to Columbus on Columbus Day. Good timing. That is a visually striking game. Thanks for the vid.
Hahahaha. I had completely forgotten about Columbus Day, but yeah his ships were nothing compared to the Treasure Fleet!!
Looks great. Seems very easy to teach, with a fair bit of depth without being overwhelming. And there’s the possibility of expansions that add new players.
Yeah! I talked to the designer at Spiel, he’s working on a solo mode and an expansion already. Excited about the future!!
Thanks for sharing your haul!
Thanks for watching 👍👍
No preview for Pride of Ninja from ninja star games?
I wasn’t aware they were at Spiel, but I did miss a handful of publishers. PoN does look good though!
When your worker is on two cards, and the colors do not match - you can take the resource from either card, just not both.
Correct! My playthrough had a few hiccups. I tried to note them all. Thanks for catching this one!
Magic Number Eleven! Thanks for showing off your haul and look forward to your detailed reviews
Thanks for the encouragement!! Working on those reviews!
If you want to use the scoreboard, you can use the starting sedans as score markers.
Goood call!! I’ll try that for our next game!
Def interested in that top 10. Also, what are the BGG links for Seven Grave and Bloc? Can't find them
Seven Grave does not have a BGG page yet, but Chock-a-Block does 👍
Thanks! @@CardboardEast I see that I read it wrong. BLOT was the game I meant, but I see it has a BGG page, so all good 😄
@@CardboardEast does it have an official website?
I wanted to say hi but you were busy at Bézier booth at that time. Anyway, great job thanks a lot ❤ I am also playing a lot of games from Asia thanks to you
No worries! Next time don’t hesitate to say hi 😁 Thanks for watching! I’m glad you’re finding games from Asia that resonate with you 👍👍
Fixer seems super cool. It’s like a bunch of individual battles of War happening at the same time mixed with Rock Paper Scissors mixed with trick taking.
It did indeed! I have a game scheduled later this week. Can’t wait!
Overparked is cool. I played on TTS. Games are never as good on there than in person, so I think it would be even more fun in person.
It’s soooooo smoooooth. The game has a really clean look to it and the advanced game is sublime. Definitely looking forward to more big box games from Origame!
Petal Plotters is a game where you put point cards face down in front of you or you use their power and discard. Powers let you manipulate face down cards in front of you or others. The last card in your hand will tell you what your scoring goal is. Then you go through scoring goals by their priority. If someone has the highest priority goal card and met their goal they win, otherwise you go to the next highest scoring priority card and see if anyone that has that scoring card has met their goal, if so they win, if not you go to the next scoring priority goal. So on and so on. Looks very fun for a tiny little game.
Fascinating! I’m always intrigued by how much game can be packed into a deck of cards! Thanks for the heads up 👍👍
"Because ants don't have as discerning pallets as you and I do; unless you eat garbage, why are you doing that?". 😂🤣 Seriously great videos... I didn't make it to Essen, or even out of Alaska, but really enjoying your content (but I keep buying Asian board games and the money....)❤
Thanks for the kind words and for watching!!!
And I was worried that I'd bought too many games at Spiel haha
LOL. We both probably did, but the games bring out the passion and passion causes us to do wild things from time to time!
I love Journey to the West movies!
That ending was sooooo hilarious!! I watch it all the time!
I’d be happy to see a video about all of Geonil’s games!
Done and done! Let's do it!
We picked up Haniwa at the Tokyo Games Market last year! So glad the game got picked up by a publisher, the designer was a nice guy!
Haniwa is one of the few games that got to keep its insert! It looks absolutely adorable! Good to know the publisher/designer is a solid person!
Butterfly Garden is a reimplementation of Indigo. Nice haul! A friend picked up several games for me and shipped them back - Trick N Treat was one. I hope it’s good!
Looking forward to playing it as well!
I also picked up Trick'n Treat but didn't have a chance to play it yet. I'm looking forward to your video on it!
Should get to it sooner than later! I’ll be setting up my content schedule today!
thanks a lot for covering so many boardgames from Asia :) , we bought some at Essen thanks to you! The one we are most excited about is Formosa tea, sadly our copy came without tea farmers 🥲, I sent an emai to TBD , let's see if the customer service is as good as the game now 😂
There was an error on behalf of the manufacturer. I had that issue as well. Some members of TBD are still on holiday in the EU, but a link was posted on the BGG forums. Here's the link down below. Fill it out and they'll send out your farmers. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSefsMZgWbgePIWJy3wBRYXSyPsC2MAc9LSspJTaCYXdW0cVPw/viewform Until then, just be sure you don't have more than 3 bowler cap dudes processing tea (or in the double sale global market spot) and you should be fine.
You got Shallow Sea!!
Review coming soon!!
@@CardboardEast nice, I also have Overparked but not played yet.
@@Flip5ide Played it! It's super smooth & I'm so thankful I've played it and picked it up. You definitely got a winner!
@@CardboardEast awesome, I backed on KS, luckily I had a friend go to Essen so she picked it up for me whilst there. Not paying VAT and postage is a win 😅
wanna see your keep or cull old games
I do cull games. A good portion of them go to my patreons. I do board game giveaways every month ;)
Do you have a link please
Apologies. This auction ended about a year ago in 2023.
Would you say this would be top 10 best Japanese Games in your list?
Top 20 hands down
Thank you for highlight games from Asia ❤
Thanks for watching!
I really like your content. I was pretty stoked to be able to meet you. That was the 3rd time at least that I went to bezier. Can't wait to hear about the games you brought back.
Thanks! I brought back a TON of games 😅
Hi Jay. Have you done the raffle yet on this game yet?
I have! This game was last month’s giveaway. It’s a bit late due to Spiel, but I’ll be posting the winner in 24 hours 👍
Wasn't even looking for this game anymore, but a local store stocked up just now. I'm trusting your word on this again.
This is leaps and bounds the best version of this game. The locations and scoring add A LOT to the game and the table presence is spectacular.
And I'll see you in a few weeks at Pax! Bezier truck and all!
See you there!
Siegfried? You mean the legendary hero of one of the Germanic heroic legends, the one who killed a dragon. Unfortunately no, my name is just Chris ;) It was really great to meet you live, even if it was just for a short time.
Great meeting you Chris!!! Apologies I forgot your name 😅
@@CardboardEast Don't worry, I imagine you've met lots of people at SPIEL, and that's what happens.
@@CHHris_Ipsum no one had that rizzing intro though. Well done, Chris!
This is the best channel on TH-cam
Thanks!!
Rest up, king! 👑
@@soremachifan Too much to do 😅 so many games to play 🤓
Thank you for the video. This is the first game I have seen in a while that excites me. Really looking forward to it being released.
Thanks for watching! I can’t wait to see this get a wider release as well!
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to pre order and pick up this game at Essen (luckily) because of your overview 🎉
Thanks for watching!! You’re one of the lucky few! I heard it sold out on DAY ONE!!!
Regarding your initial question, I think every one wins who owns either version. Waiting for it to get releases in EU.
Absolutely! It’s a win for everyone who gets to play this game!
BTW, where did you get those stickers to fix-up the Japanese store tokens? I searched on BGG and failed to find anything like that.
Under Files 👍 boardgamegeek.com/filepage/282515/high-contrast-yellow-stickers
@@CardboardEast Ah. It wasn't appearing under "Files" for me because it was restricted to show only English files. I'm so dumb. Thanks!
Hi! This is the developer of the game for Studio Supernova, the italian publisher that will release the international edition. Thanks Jay for the review! Just to clarify, what Jay has is a pre-production sample so there will be still some changes for the final edition ;) we are fixing a couple of the things you suggested to make better (ex the Kaiju will be just shuffled in the deck so it could enter the game VERY quickly!) Update on timings: the game will be released around spring, and will be available also in North America through a distribution partner.
Easy way I use "One Map by From Japan"
Groovy! It’s been a minute since this video was published and I do think I should do an updated version. Thanks for the tip! 👍
Will the Italian publisher be selling this online for Canadian buyers to get a copy?
Rumor is other publishers will be licensing this game for international release 🤫
@@CardboardEastim in such a pickle because I can get the Japanese version right now…
@@BrandentLam The Japanese version is (unfortunately) out of print already, so it'll be difficult to get.
