At the time, the Northstar engine was regarded as one of the best engines out there and it was world class. Until the oil leaks and more widely known head bolt image sent many a Cadillac to a junk yard, Cadillacs's flagship engine was hard to top. Well here in my 1998 Eldorado the engine is still smooth as glass and loafs along at 80mph with nary a stutter or CEL or temperature warning guage le...

I unbox Rapido newest offering. The highly anticipated Metra Budd Cars that run on Metras's busiest line...the BNSF line. I picked this set up from Lombard Hobby for $284.99 plus tax = $307.79. I go over details that I notice between both Rapido and Atlas most recent release as well. At the end, Kato even makes a brief appearance. Hope you all enjoy. #hoscale #train #metra #rapido #atlas #model...

I have a Loksound decider on order for the cab coach. However form over function for operation .... 🤦🏾♂️ They derail constantly! 😰 At least on my layout thus far. Not sure why. Lookin Sharp Buddy .... Great Job 👍
The ditch lights are sweet......so cool on an E unit....there MUST be a way to get the headlight to oscillate tho.....need that.
I love your layout and enjoy watching your videos and inspire me with others to build my layout. I’m waiting until I move in a couple months before I can start it. So I’m just building kits and modifying vehicles.
Lombard Hobbies FTW! I feel you on the agonizing wait for a top tier manufacturer to come out with the Budds/Sharyo's......AND AN E9! I've spent years collecting some 3 Brothers kits.......but this is the real deal. I saw the brass offering at Elmhurst model rr club some years back.....but that was already years out of production and that wasnt anything an average railroader could afford anyway. This finally fills the bill for those of us that want to model HO scale commuter operations......me, i'm a BN fan so i'm working on modeling the racetrack. Great video.
Glad i found your channel....this is the first i'm hearing of the Atlas coaches having issues.....up till now i was kinda leaning towards the Rapido coaches cuz the detail looked way better, after this i think i'll just go Rapido......makes more sense for me bcuz i want to model late 80's early 90's pre merger BN commuter operations anyway and the Rapido cars are the Budd style and i want to Pull them with E units in BN livery. I'm sure i'll end up with both style Coaches and mix in some more modern motive power like so F40PH's, much like you've done....Love the layout....great channel here....i subbed...
@OutlawRailroader Welcome and thank you so much. Yea alot of folks have had derailing issues. It seems to be the speed cables needs to be trimmed. I haven't had a chance to do mine yet.
So were you able to fix the problems on the other cars yet?
No I have not. I've been preoccupied with the holidays and my job and trying to get my cars fixed. But I plan to cut the speed cables and see how that goes.
I'm going to be doing a segment of the BNSF's Racetrack with my equipment. I'm just waiting for the Rapido Wenabego (F40-PH-2M) to drop.
@daniellucas6573 me too lol. I have the CB&Q on order myself
Nice car. I had a 72 triple white for 20 years. May get another. Take care of that rust. Nice work on the suspension. Put on a nice dual exhaust. Good advice on the Dove heads. I think that vinyl top can be saved - had mine folded back carefully to fix the rust. Wheels make the car - but not too big - nothing over 18 inch. Thanks for putting love into a great car.
Lol, you know how we do!

@@david-w6t6c Thank you
Put her on the lift and check all Break lines when dry..I replaced all of mine last year usually the rear lines go bad first good luck with the resto!! ❤
Have you checked f the wheels? Also look at the trucks and see if any body details are preventing them from swinging freely. As you already said, the cars may need weight added. Physics doesn't really allow for good push action on a model railroad - there's not enough weight and for it to work reliably, the cars would have to be too heavy for most locomotives to manage. Last thing - make sure the couplers aren't binding in the curves.
I was thinking maybe it's that section of track or maybe if there was a way to make the car a bit heavier so it will stay on the curves. That's gotta su seeing how expensive the care were.
If it's always the same truck derailing, try loosening the screw that it swivels on. It may be lifting up slightly when it goes over certain spots, and if the truck screw is too tight, it can't adjust to the track.
I had that same problem with derailment on 33" and 35" curves when I purchased these Atlas cars straight out of the box and they cost me $350 which is a bit more expensive then the Rapido Bud car set which ran beautifully in the videoI made over a week ago. I got fed up and exchanged them for Rapido Bud cars. For $350 to have endless derailments and no directional light then I'll just stick with the Rapido cars from now on.
I don't have trains, but I watch SMT on utube , and RPB . I saw once a problem with derailing, the couplersin between the cars needed to be changed, they were sticking on turns.
I had the same issue between the car lifting off the track while turning or derailing. I had to loosen one of the trucks leaving the other tight. Even stopped using the MP36 cause I thought it was too light. Seriously my MP36 acted real funky trying to pull those atlas cars. F59PH handles much better with less derailments no stalling like the MP36.
@JettaCity I have both versions of the F59...the ones that look similar to the F40ph and the one that looks like cousins of the MP36 that Amtrak California used to use. I also have a RTA F40PH and a newer paint scheme F40PH. I will check to see if any of them have better results.
I have the same problem with the same cars on super-elevated curves. I noticed the axles occasionally lift off the track, causing the car to derail on those curves. On straight track the cars run fine. I rarely have that issue with the Rapido Budd Metra cars. And no, I cannot run the Budd and Atlas cars together; they derail.
@dong3544 Someone mentioned trimming the speed cables that are off the trucks and that's what I was thinking as well. I'm going to try that and see what happens.
That Larry June is the perfect soundtrack for this ride, too!
Ain't it man? 💯
My mom got one of these when I was a kid with a phone built in. I loved that car! My dad bought it off some outfit guy in Chicago.
Very cool. Love that gyro light.
Me too! Thanks for watching
These cars were originally built for the CB&Q, the Burlington.
@Scalettadom yea I know. Built for CB&Q starting 1950...transferred to BN after the merger of 1970
I ended up getting 16 of the Rapido cars. I sold 8 Overland Models Burlington Budd cars to fund them, and I definitely made the correct choice! These Rapido cars are probably the most beautiful passenger cars I've ever owned, and some of the most detailed.
@@Scalettadom sheesh 🤧 😳 16 huh?
@Chitwn81 haha, yeah! I have a problem, lol. 8 BN ones and 8 Metra BNSF ones. I'm probably going to redecal some of the BNSF ones into the 90s era Burlington Northern Metra cars.
Did you check my review of these cars? I'm about to model your city's terminal soon!
Bro, i am emulating your layout, may i ask where you ordered the blue bus docking station thats sitting in front of the projects, and also where you ordered projects? I grew up as a kid in the projects in the 70s

@AnnnTelop87 ok thanks will do.
You got the 2inch !! Nice 🙂👍👍👍
You need a 74 to compare the rear end
@rbcrain2469 Yes!!!! Lol. I hate the back of the 74s....I'd rather a Marquis Brougham or Riviera or some or even the Continental Town Car Coupe...but the Mark IV from 74-76 is not my cup of tea at all.
Very nice! But why drive it in the rain? Should be home safe in the garage. Thanks for sharing.
Why not? Cars are made to be driven. Plus she's not show quality by any means. Definitely a survivor with her share of wear and tear. But im restoring what I can a little at a time. Also don't want the battery to die. As I think there's a parasitic draw somewhere. Thanks for watching. 😊
@@Chitwn81 Yes cars are made to be driven. But she is a beauty. Drive her on nicer days. Good to hear that you are restoring her. But it is even better to know that you are enjoying her. Have a good day.

@frankiemck40 Thank you. Yes the 72 Mark IV is beautiful. I have a fondness though for the Mark III and Mark VIII LSC
@ I had two Mark IVs, a 1973 and then a 1976. Both in the ‘90s. Then I had a ‘95 Mark VIII LSC. All nice cars.
Nice layout, Yeah some tanks would give more traffic and diversity in rolling stock. Your industries are GREAT!. Nice trucks and cars too!. Good work
That's great! Nice RTA Bi-Levels in the background! Does Matt do any work for others?
Good video all said and done how much did you pay for your cab coach car and how much for the decoder unfortunately I wasn't able to buy one I was way too late finding out they were for sale
@mikeberthold1593 I bought the cab coach as part of a 3 pk set which included 1 cab coach and 2 trailer coaches. They were $285 for the set. The cab coach sold separately for 85.99 I think. The decoder was another $80 shipping and install another 75 so figure about $200-$220 for the cab coach when all was said and done
Best thing about it being your layout, you can do what ever you want. For the soda off load, maybe a tank or 2 behind the building, between the track and the truck loading dock.
Great job, I picked up Walthers mainline pack of 30 seated passengers for my car
@@hunterkiller86 oh really? From where? And do they look nice. I bought a pkg of 100 from China and I was disappointed lol. Should have known better. Price was 29.99 for 100 ppl and they're too big even though it says 1:87
@Chitwn81 last time I was at Lombard hobbies they had 6 packs in. I bought 4 for the 4 metra cars I have.
As far as programming, you might need a booster. I had the same problem with all my locos with ESU decoders. I bought the tsunami programming track power booster and problem solved. It's only $50.
