My Father was a Marine from 1939 to 1959. He was in the Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam and Korea. He was a Raider in the 3rd Marine Raider Battalion among other assignments. He did not talk much about the War but when I was older I asked him what he did in the War, his answer, "We got on the boat, landed, went into the jungle, killed everyone,(the enemy), got back on the boat and went to the next island".
