Hi Fiona, from what I understand it's the binder used in the QOR paints- a type of synthetic ox gall called Aquazol- that allows them to absorb more pigments and hence the brighter colours.

i love that these are ceramic. that means that when the paint does eventually run out (however long that may take), you can use them as mixing palettes instead!

Thank you for mentioning the Etcher sketchbook. Years ago when I started pencil drawing I didn't realize there was a difference in paper quality & learned the hard way. I have been "window shopping" the sketchbooks online, & now with your advice I feel very confident. Online classes are very convenient as I am very slow. Thank you.
