Is there anything you can do for a highlight instead of the stark white?
@@emeraldnebula8128 yes, masking fluid to preserve the highlight ( the white of the paper) or don’t use masking fluid and just work around the highlights. Paint won’t go where the paper is dry, even if it’s a very small area. I hope this helps. Fiona x
Thank you, Fiona! This is such a fun practice, and the poppies are a perfect choice! xo
@@stapletontable thank you 😊
Thank you.
Thank you 🙏
What is the brand of white you’re using for highlights ? I tried to see when you held it up, but couldn’t quite get it. Thanks ! I love your paintings and your style of teaching on a video. The slowness, real time, helps me to learn.
Dr Ph Martin bleedproof white! On Amazon. It lasts ages and is sooo good! Fiona x
@ Thanks ! I have to say your choice to paint an older lady is unusual. I would love to see the day when old faces could be seen as beautiful as young faces in a different way.
I love the poppies and I really appreciate that you paint mature women. Thank you for your fantastic content.
Thank you ❤️

Thanks so much. Love the tips. ❤
Thank you x
Love love the poppies!
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful and informative..... Thank You 😊
Thank you 😊
I enjoy watching you paint. I wish you would say what colors you use 😊
I was using those three huge pans you see in the beginning, mostly , from one of my previous videos, by Paul Rubens. So mixing three primary colours, I got most of what you see. I used mint by White Nights on the face towards the end and the highlights and collar, as I show in the video are Dr Ph Martin’s bleedproof white. I hope this helps. Fiona x
@drawingsinadrawer Thank you. I was really wondering what specific colors you mixed to achieve the skin tones.
@@justtubingby129I always use a red a little bit of yellow ochre or Naples yellow or raw sienna and a pin prick of blue. I find it’s the perfect place to start. Then I add to it. I layer cheeks wet in wet with a red. But I always have my favourite pink at hand and that is rose doré by Winsor & Newton x

fabulous video as always, love the flowers
Hi, Louise 🕊️
Love your work. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
My question is - How would you soften her cheeks so that they are more blended in with her lower facial features?
Clean damp brush 😊
@drawingsinadrawer ok- how about the color - would you add a slight color wash over the lower portion of the face perhaps as well?
I love the poppy flowers, a great choice for transparency.

Hi Fiona, from what I understand it's the binder used in the QOR paints- a type of synthetic ox gall called Aquazol- that allows them to absorb more pigments and hence the brighter colours.
Heel mooi 👍👏👏👍🇱🇺💐
Thank you x
$49.99 in Canada! But; due to our horrendous government, everything is double the price in Canada! I’ve decided they’re worth trying anyway! As always, you’re an inspiration ❣️

Thank you for mentioning the Etcher sketchbook. Years ago when I started pencil drawing I didn't realize there was a difference in paper quality & learned the hard way. I have been "window shopping" the sketchbooks online, & now with your advice I feel very confident. Online classes are very convenient as I am very slow. Thank you.
Thank you! Be sure to get cold pressed for these Etchr ones ( white cover) if you don’t like paper that is too smooth. I find the cold pressed ( slightly textured) the most forgiving for watercolour. Fiona x
