Your website is down or gone. I hadn't gotten to properly explore it yet to learn about PDA.
Well put. Interest centred rather than person centred. We cant have mundane conversations that dont contain our special interests. The conversation can only be enjoyable and regenerating if it contains our interests. So, talking about things such as other's lives, feelings, and days are exactly as Harry said just "waffling on inanely about inconsequential matters". The content is the only thing that matters, and must involve the interest of an autistic person for us to engage or for it to sustain our attention. The conversation must be all about OUR interests for them not to be energy consuming - so like the video points out, others must talk about our interests, and autistic people only want to talk about the topics others bring up if they are already interested in them and shared. Autistic people aren't centered around themselves, but around their specific interests, and that can be about the autistic person's life interests, what their interest for the day was, or the feelings they had that came up during doing these special interests. Like Harry said that is very different from just talking about, and being centered around one's self. People that are self centered only talk about themselves and their interests, and dont put energy into, or have regard for, other's interests or topics of conversation because they find them mundane, inconsequential or inane. As explained autistic people are interested in people so long as they talk about the autistic person's existing special interests, and only those things that matter to the autistic person. Expecting an autistic person to use up their energy on anything else means that other people want the autistic person to engage in something that is not all about the interests in their life such as how another person feels, how their day went or what they are up to generally. Harry explained this very well.
You are the bomb-digity!
That's deep.
I'm reading your book at the moment. One thing that's troubling me so far is that you said you went through basic training in the military. Yet I don't see how you would have been put forward for that with an autism diagnosis, the medical comes before basic training.
All of these videos (I’m starting with your oldest) are so helpful to us moms, of.. Thank you for keeping them up! Your sharing is a generosity!
Just a couple of little things to remember.. 😅 I’ll do my best!
As a parent of PDAer I just hope he can handle the ‘real world’ to the degree that he can make a living, support himself, and hopefully find love. Because I too have some ideas about how I would like to live, once he’s grown.. 💁🏽♀️
Thank you so much Harry! That was very insightful and felt a lot like my 12 year old pda son as an adult speaking to me! 😅
People like you think the world is flat and trump is still the president. Learn about science before your spread harmful disinformation.
I have PTSD and a very low tolerance for invalidation. As soon as someone does that to me, I never trust them again.
Good job
I understand your view, but how is my ASD son going to be prepared for life as a working adult if he just games with no restrictions ?
Smear campaigns is one of the toxic behaviors in these advocacy based circles. I was subjected to mob bullying by a heap of strangers who were mad at me, mainly because I chose to no longer identify as autistic. I was accused of being a bully & worse by those doing the bullying. It's pretty disgusting how toxic advocacy "communities" can be. I don't call myself "autistic" or "neurodivergent" mainly because of the toxicity. What is extra sad about a case like yours is that genuine victims aren't believed. Btw, it's very easy to see who the "main accuser" is with a simple internet search. I think about the only think you can do is to speak up. I have PTSD & the mob bullying was very triggering but I spoke up. Relationships can turn ugly when they sour. It's very sad when people lie. Some people will swallow the lies & act as flying monkeys. I was smeared when I said the truth of why I have PTSD (without naming the offenders). I am tired of the drama from advocacy. There will be some who believe you & some who won't. It is incredibly destructive though. Intense relationships are more at risk of getting hurt.
This is an extreme example of how toxic the advocacy world is.
Harry: You are a Godsend for my 4 year old grandson. I have bought 2 of your books on Amazon. I will buy and read all others you may have. Please keep up what you are doing to help others.
Seems you’ve been falsely targeted. Thank you for bringing awareness to PDA. I appreciate your courage in telling your story of living with PDA as it has helped me to understand it better.
your an amazing human being harry
I’ve experienced it the hard way
I am sorry Paula but it is a misconception that anyone can ‘feel more’ than another. Autistic folk feel a lot. The problem is for me at least, that a) we tend to be wired to think subjectively and put those feelings to one side while we acquire more data - and b) we struggle to get tonality and expression into our voices that convey the depth of feeling (usually hurt and frustration) that comes from being piled on by practically everyone we meet.
Interesting perspective, I do think some people feel things more intensely than others, the behaviours and actions some engage in certainly give that impression. Some people lack vital skills in navigating their emotions, leading to a greater intensity for sure, hence why therapies like DBT can be useful to help those with particular presentations, providing tools they were lacking and allowing them to navigate their intense emotional experiences more safely.
@@paularicePDAADHD BTW i am not judging - you have obviously helped Harry by agreeing that the smear campaign was not his fault, which is a great thing to do. My issue is that autistic people are 8 x more likely to commit suicide than average. That is a lot of suffering going on inside. So ofc different people are sensitive to different emotions - and here, it is harrowing simply having to observe someone absorb the shame that belongs to others. And i know - I KNOW - 'HG Tudor' is like Hannibal Lecter - and will have been spying on Harry like he does to me and many others, just waiting for an opportunity to strike out. (my other profile is not sharing this comment? - can you see one reply or two?)
I am very pleased to see you back.
This is good, but you fail to address the following: What happens when a person with PDA makes demands on you that you simply cannot and will not comply with? I mean, a child may want to buy something or go to a specific restaurant, and the fact that you cannot provide that as a parent, will also put them in irritable, modify, difficult mode that can last for hours or even days. I' acknowledge' my child wants that, but in that case his quest for freedom becomes a unsolvable problem. What can be done in that case?
I homeschool my son and this helps me feel I am doing the right thing for him. He also teaches himself. I wonder how you learned music? Did u have lessons and were able to because you had the interest. Or from ear.
Is the cat alright?
You're a good human. Truth is truth. Glad you finally got to speak the truth.
Hi Harry, really sorry you have had to go through all this. I have been apart of group webcam chats with you and others, you have always come across a genuinely nice and considerate person. If you ever said anything that came acorss as rude you were apologetic or dealt with it maturely. Akways been a big fan of yours
I haven't ever commented on your channel before, but I started following you after an interview you did with HG Tudor. I had wondered what happened to your YT channel (I am not on Facebook) and was surprised to see this video in my feed. I am so very sorry you went through this. I cannot help but think, listening to your experience with accuser 1 , that you may have in fact been ensnared by a narcissist (there were many red flags about accuser 1's behaviour) - but, perhaps you've already considered that? Best wishes on moving forward and healing from such a horrible experience.
Harry... using the word "hysteria" in your description is not a good word choice. That's an instant red flag and makes me not even want to listen to this. You will not use outdated terminology to further degrade ND women- something about that statement immediately made me distrust you. Think about what you are saying and check your arrogance. If you were accused of hurting multiple women... SOMETHING HAPPENED. Even if it's not what they say happened... something did. And maybe it was just poor treatment and disrespect- I can tell by the word choice you are quick to call women crazy. Any man who is accused of anything by other women should never use that word. I have been accused of things I have not done so I get how horrible that is- just know that to women in the United States--using that word to describe women has a very bad connotation. It immediately made me take pause- please be careful in the way you describe this
I understand your criticism however it completely misses the fact that Harry is a victim of a heinous crime and so completely dismisses and invalidates the real crime and very real pain caused by it. The person who falsely accused him and those who jumped on the back of the accusation are the ones who are doing the disservice to genuine female victims, like myself. They're the ones making it harder for genuine victims to be believed. I recommend listening to/reading Harry's official statement regarding the accusations where he delineates and addresses each individual allegation.
No smoke without fire is a cognitive bias. However, hysteria is an outdated term and probably shouldn't be used, yet in this day and age many people aren't intentionally using it in a gendered way, infact I could imagine using the word to describe a man acting hysterical, or when describing some who was in 'hysterics' I.e. Laughing uncontrollably.
You poor thing. Sending best wishes.
Good on you Harry, stand tall, congratulations describing this horrible situation so clearly. We are with you.
Thank you for all the help you gave me and my family in 2018/19 Harry - it was invaluable.
I believe Harry after this video but I cannot find any information online from the accuser about what they are claiming. Id like to hear her side just to be fair
The accuser's Facebook page/group started it off, then very many groups also made statements - if you commented anything other than believing the accuser, they blocked you. They may well have taken comments down now, given it was out and out defamation. There's zero evidence from the accuser anywhere. And when you could read the claims they were very vague - and disgusting nonetheless. They said they couldn't give details because there was a legal case being pursued, which has now been proven false.
How horrible to have gone through this. Avoid psycho hose beasts. Bizarre love triangle...
Comments are on Harry. Lots of love.
To raise an abuser. I can’t wait for all the truth to be released ! Woman after Woman. It’s all coming. You can surround yourself with single parent domestically abused women, who need a wink and smile. The games up Harry Jack Thompson
makes "ALOT" of sense
It sounds like an horrific ordeal to go through and the allegations extremely ignorant and cruel! I'm so glad you're back Harry..bloody well done on getting through it.
The world may be more or less real (to me it seems we are living in a kind of hologram). What i know is each one percieves it differently, each from their own point of view.
I've missed your content and had no idea where you'd gone. I am so sorry you are going through this but greatly respect your attitude.
6 years on, and I am still sharing this video to help families. ❤
Good to see you back, Harry. I'd been wondering what happened. I'm sorry to hear all the crap that happened but I'm so glad you've emerged and are rising above it
Ok, I watched an hour, I don't think I need to know more. I probably would never have believed the accusation, not that I would have ever heard it. It doesn't seem consistent with your personality. At any rate, I believe you now, and I will continue to recommend you. Your content is worth it. Please keep producing it.
I didn't know anything had happened! I've been recommending you left and right....
Yay, you're back, I missed your pda content. And I'm really sorry for what happened to you. When someone gets cancelled, I always try to research it and make sure it's not a smear campaign. It's actually my pda that prevents me from going with everyone else and doing my own research. I don't have a social media so I had no idea why you disappeared, but I'm glad you're still with us ❤
Absolutely! Very well articulated.
I really appreciate this video. I think that the moral aspect of growing as an autistic person contributes the most complexity to the processes of healing and growth, and I value the balance between caring for others and caring for ourselves.
This is really great, explains so much about myself. I have numerous interests in the creative arts realm and every now and again I discover none of them give me the rush that comes from anticipating working on it. I feel empty as if my soul has left me, I don’t experience it as temporary boredom but literally as if all is foreign and meaningless. And then I will be filled with anxiety questioning if any of these interests were genuine and not simply a way to distract me from how unimportant and pointless my life is. Watching your short makes me feel like the next time this occurs, I could avoid the anxiety by realizing it’s a normal experience for PDAers. Like all else, this too shall pass and I can sit with the discomfort. Or go sleep until it returns.
Toxic invalidation in society is so deeply ingrained in healthcare, schools and the prison system (which we will all see in the media next week).
This is shocking but I feel that it happens all of the time. A young girl and her mother working against a system.
Guru Harry ❤
