Did The Sky Fall for Those On Philippine Tourist Visa?
A few short months ago TH-cam in the Philippines was ablaze with predictions of doom. Tourist Visas No Longer Guaranteed to be renewed - was the common theme. So what has happened? I'll tell you and also tell you what I paid for my latest extension.

great video, good info, thanks. The ease of constant renewal also depends where you live with hours of traveling from their office and sometimes the office closed. I decided on the SRRV since more freedom and less hassle when one travels frequently outside the county. Thanks😀😀😀
Joey, super helpful to clarify all this. thanks. i didnt catch the name of the head office where you can get the six month visa. could you let me know on that? thanks a lot!
I'm on a One Year Trial visit... If I STILL like the Philippines in July of next year, I'll start the SRRV process.

I haven't even started exploring the Eateries in the Tech, Condo & Hotel Towers in Business Park. What are there, Six Malls in Cebu? I haven't seen all ONE yet.

The hospitable nature of filipinos render relative better treatment to foreigners compared to their own. Like in any place, the value of person depends on the perceived financial standing. Also, your skin color is a color of social colonial privilege.
I can’t argue with anything you’ve said. As an expat, I consider it a duty to NOT take advantage of that. Thank you for contributing to the discussion. Best, Joe

Its not uncommon to find people in the philippines earning $5000 a month. Just look at all the new SUVs and Pickup Trucks and Cars on the road. Those cost a lot of money, and it shouldnt be a surprise why there are hundreds and thousands of those expensive vehicles on the roads. Wealth has quadrupled in the Philippines over the past 10 years alone. I am now earning 8x more now than when i entered the workforce 6 years ago. Of course, I wouldnt expect an expat to know these things if the only reliable source they've had is a filipina on the dating site who hasnt had a day of college or high school education. College education rates have grown significantly over the past decade, and currently, tertiary education rates are higher in the PH than america. 45% of Filipinos go to college, only 37% for great old America. That 45% is off the table for most expats. Unless an expat is willing to support a filipina's career decisions and work, to this demographic, marrying a foreigner means nothing more than giving up on your career and resolve and piggybacking on an old man's measly pension. Every smart, educated filipina will ask themselves, "what do I do if this guy dies and I suddenly become an unemployed middle aged woman with NO CAREER?"
Philippines is still a high-trust society, similar to many countries in Asia. The high trust is fueled by its religious and family values, being empathetic to other's circumstances, and fostering positive community spirit as against just thinking of individual needs. It's easier to keep this high trust in a society where most people hold the same values as compared to multi-cultural societies where sometimes the cultural differences start being an irritant and trigger point for violence. Of course, it is important to remain trustworthy or to reciprocate Filipinos' trust on you because Filipinos might always be smiling and patient but they display another face when you break their trust. Thank you for seeking to provide another POV.
Hi Lia, Thank you for watching and for the outstanding contribution to the discussion! Best, Joe

Excellent content Joe! So many good natured, helpful people In the Phillipines. Balances all the videos sending messages about how dangerous the Phillipines is. Great insights. I like the contrast to the US.
Thank you brother! Much appreciated!
I don't like Filipina Pea. She makes a living putting down her own country and exposing the worse of people. It's easy to see threw her and see she is not a nice person at all. her sweet and innocent act don't fool me for a second.
I have never thought that of her. Thank you for your perspective, I will look deeper at her. Best, Joe
Disclaimer as a Filipina : The Filipina Pea does NOT reflect rhe views and opinions of the ordinary Filipina. She is too 'westernized' and we dont adapt the same values as hers. She's far from who we really are and what we stand for. * I belong to 95% of Filipino women who don't date foreigners. I simply watch TH-cam videos like everyone else thats why I come across that girl's channel.
As a Filipina myself, I think her videos are often objective. But at times, it makes me think like she bashes us to make foreigners feel good. It's been years since I watched her videos.
@@SunShine_sublime Lets admit it. She's a traitor to her own country. She makes it appear that Filipinas are always available to the foreigners --WHICH IS NOT TRUE. Pea is interviewing Filipinas who are like her, the lowest of the lows, doing it just for views. She's a disgrace to the PH.
As a filipino, i agree. She is baiting foreigners to have very unrealistic views of the philippines. And she stereotypes her own people like crazy. I understand she is doing this as a business, and is intensively targeting the wider expat audience by specifically talking about their fantasies and desires, BUT DAMN. She is as reverse racist as they get. I'd say a higher percentage of filipinos (ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE INCOME AND THE RICH) dont take her seriously and see her as nothing more than a pimp for expats. She's pimping out our entire country!
sounds like a guillible tourist behaviour lol too trusting

Gcash is an e-wallet where you can cash in / out money wor;dwide- maybe he wasn't aware of it or not familiar with this kind of transaction in the Philippines
Life in the province is unbearable, but some people can handle it, some seem to even like it, but is not only about change and small things, also larger things that can go wrong and often go wrong. As for me, I cannot wait moving back to the big city whether Cebu or Manila, but best is BGC, Makati when you want life less complicated. Thanks Joe for nice sharing.

Its good to get an objective perspective and I appreciate your experience. In life regardless of where we are risk are taken. As you state weigh the risk to benefit. I appreciate your story.
Thank you! Great point about us facing risks no matter where we are! Best, Joe
I've noticed a willingness of Filipinos to work with & look out for Expats. Two personal Examples: 1] The Condo Admin made the Connections for my Internet Service & piggy-backed my Install after another Tenants. 2] My Landlord was happy with the Screenshot of the International Bank Transfer for my Rent & Deposits since it took a couple of hours to clear. A Third Example: At NAIA: One of the Customs Officers took the time to tell me how to Register my SIM.
Hi Ted, all excellent examples of the Filipino’s willingness to help expats. Thank you for adding to the discussion!
Great video and topic, Joey. Well done. I gained an appreciation and understanding of some of these issues by utilizing the neighborhood Sari Sari at my last residence. They had some older customers who depended on these ladies to do everything for them. Buying load, cash in and cash out for GCash, paying their bills, all their daily food needs, etc. They were incredible! And cheaper than any chain store as well. I also loved your advice to consider the amount at risk before saying NO. If the amount is low, and my gut says they can be trusted, then sure, why not.
Thank you for the nice comment and great contribution to the story. I hadn’t thought about it also being cheaper, but that is an excellent point. Best, Joe
Well done, Joe!
Thank you, Brad. That was a great trip.
Hey Joe, I saw a Filipino news segment saying that there are issues regarding GCash theft. Please be careful!
Hi Pam, Thank you for the warning. I just Googled the story to read more! Cheers!
Can you tell me where your apartment is . I’m looking to move there
One Uptown Residences.
Hey Joey, Thanks for the info. Fascinating, informative, and helpful. Good stuff! Like yourself, a former pistolero, living on the gun range every day. When we moved back to FL from TX, had to rent a small U-Haul to ship all my guns and ammunition. At that point marksmanship skills had markedly diminished, and I could not figure out why. Subsequently found the cause was pinched nerves from multiple cervical fractures resulting from a freak carrier cat-shot accident (that story would take a "Whole other Oprah" to tell.) Fortunately, all my shooting was at an outdoor range. The lead exposure aspect is still something I probably should definitely look into. In my young enlisted days, prior to getting into Naval Aviation, I crewed a 5"/38 gun mount as a hotshellman. Being closest crewmember to the breach, and resulting lead particles, my job was to slow the red-hot 13-pound shell casing as it was being ejected, with one hand, and flip it mid-air with the other hand, such that it would land in an opening leading to the weather deck. But fear not, the Navy did not want to see me burned in the process, so they provided me with shoulder-length gloves, made with--you guessed it: asbestos. The bad part of all this is being couped-up in a small confined space with no breathing protection or air filtration. Keep up the good work, my friend. I enjoy all your podcasts--you are a natural!👍
Boba! More I didn’t know about you! You had a serious bad ass job! Surprised you’re not deaf. Thank you for the kind words! Cheer!
Looks like monkeypox. We know how you got it 😂

Joe, i know bullets are expensive. Did you make your own bullets?
Hi Ben, Most of my friends did, but I just BOUGHT by the case at Midway USA and drive over to pick it up.
Hi Joe, good advice! I don't have FB because I prefer to have a private life. Nothing nefarious going on, just a personal choice. My question to you is if I don't have a FB account, will I constantly be swimming upstream in the Philippines. I'm also going to delete my one long post I made regarding Motorcycle riding. I reread it and it sounded like I was pontificating. I lived in a microcosm and would see death on a regular basis, causing me to have a sometimes myopic view of certain things.
Your posts are a valuable contribution, never worry about that. The more we read and learn from others, the smarter we are. Cheers!
Just wow. Thank you Joe, for giving of yourself to bring attention to this beautiful young girl’s tragic story. She deserves to be remembered. This could happen to anyone. Something so simple yet so deadly. Her story should be used to petition Philippine government officials for funding to round up all stray dogs and cats and take them to shelters for euthanization of infected animals and vaccination and adoption for the rest but will probably never happen because of lack of funding. Sad
You’re welcome. I can’t add anything to what you’ve said. 100% agree. Thank you for watching and taking the time to write. Best, Joe.
I'm glad you got out while you could. I'm really familiar with the TINS units. In 29 years, Three Rotator Cuff Injuries, & a Right Shoulder Reconstruction. The Upper lobes of both biceps are gone. The Left Shoulder has a Avulsed/Retracted Supraspinatus & a mass of Scar Tissue in the Infraspinatus. Yes, I received Disability Payments from my Public Agency Employer. But, at 62 (Five years after the Left Shoulder Injury) it was obvious to me that it was time to go. Yes, I could still work rings around the younger Custodians, but my strength was becoming limited. PLUS, my hands were melting the disposable gloves. Not the Chemicals, my HANDS.
Glad you escaped also! Your new place looks great!
After five visits to the Philippines, I can't imagine going there to live if I am wealthy. It's a good place to go if you are getting by on a modest retirement income, or over 45 and looking for a young lady to marry. Life in the USA is incomparably more comfortable, if you can afford to live in a nice area or neighborhood. I have known many Filipinos in the US, none ever speak of returning, except for brief visits. That said, the US has it's problems too and there are many things to like about the Philippines.
Hi James, Thank you for the well reasoned comment. I can’t disagree with your assessment. Best, Joe.
