Ah, you have me out of my comfort zone here, I usually only love acoustic music (classical, jazz & bluegrass), but my son-in-law loves heavy metal, & this would make an amazing Christmas present. 🤘 🎸 I chose to take Rock History as a elective for college. Yes it was an easy A, but still a great class. Especially when we got to listen to songs and write a page essay for extra credit. The parental advisory sticker totally backfired and it was hilarious.

Great discussion. I like both Metallica and Megadeth. I think Megadeth is more consistent in the albums. But Metallica is a better live band. I think Metallica transcended metal. One band I hope the book talks about prominently is Iron Maiden. They were my gateway into heavy metal. I got the Piece of Mind album around 1983. Iron Maiden with Twisted Sister opening was my first metal concert. I did listen to some death metal and black metal bands in the mid to late aughts. I did like them, but your point about the vocals is a good one. Even when I was reading the lyrics while listening to the song, if I lost my place, I couldn't find it. I often wonder why they even tried to create lyrics when listerers can't understand them

I just stumbled across videos about this readathon after the fact. I'll still probably check out all the hosts' TBR videos. I read spooky books throughout the year. With every TBR video, there's a chance of hearing about a great book I hadn't heard of before. I started watching Victober TBR videos before Victober, and I'm still watching some of those. I'm in the midst of reading Uncle Silas by J. Sheridan le Fanu at the moment. It would definitely meet the at least thirty year old prompt requirement. 🙂 It was first published December 1, 1864.

I have the same two copies of Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs and it drives me a little crazy 😂

My wife is the big non-fiction reader in our house and loved this book. Coming from rural Ireland where discussing death and attending funerals is practically the national pastime I always find the British (and apparently American) inability to discuss death so odd. Great review

This was a great review Nicole! I really enjoyed this book. I do plan to read the last two books.

David Seltzer wrote the script after being paid in advance by the bosses at 20th Century Fox. After it was filmed they decided to write a companion novel so as to increase interest in the forthcoming film and the book was released two weeks before the film came out. D S more or less stays faithful to the film in his novel and even adds one or two interesting points and backstory regarding Mrs. Baylock and father Brennan. As for the film itself....it's much better than it's contemporaries from that era like the Exorcist and the Shining.

Two things in life are guaranteed, Death and Taxes. I became a funeral director because my family was taken advantage of. I’m still paying off the student debt, but I hope to have a green funeral home and cemetery sometime in the future. You also have composting options available now depending on the state. My goal is educating families so they can heal. Please talk to your family and make plans before your passing.

Sounds macabrely fascinating. Heidegger thinks we should spend more time in cemeteries to reflect on our mortality. Here in the country of Georgia, burial is usual. I want my body to be left to the medical university so my teaching can continue after my death in a way. I've no idea what comes after death for the soul, if anything.

Great discussion. It's been decades since I read the book. Despite this, the escape scene you mentioned is still vivid in my mind. Just out of curiosity, did you read Harris's Black Sunday? I liked that book and the movie based upon it a lot
