20 Lessons Learned from 20 Jobs In My 20s
20 Lessons I’ve learned from working 20 jobs in my 20s
In my last semester of college I took a practicum course that was all about introducing us to job opportunities.
Each time we met, a representative from some company would give a presentation followed by a Q and A session, and we’d have the opportunity to sign up for interviews with them. This was my favorite course of the degree program. I remember thinking “I want to try all of these”.
And I remember the notoriously strict Dr Adams preaching “no matter how much you hate your first job, you have to stay at least one year, or you’ll kiss your chances of a career goodbye”.
I went on to work as a stock broker trainee, where I lasted just 7 months. I then proceeded to work 20 more jobs.
Here’s what I’ve learned along the way:
1. Disillusion of famine mentality 2:20
2. You can learn anything - Most jobs require on the job training - it doesn’t matter what you studied -showing interest goes a long way 3:46
3. Money is rarely the problem 4:35
4. In your 20s, life skills are a far more valuable currency 5:28
5. Pros & Cons snowboarding office job travel perks cubicle 6:08
6. Some jobs allow you to use your Natural Skills 6:48
7. Getting by vs thriving 7:46
8. Dead end vs other opportunities 8:53
9. Empathy/ability to relate 10:18
10. You start to understand society and how most people are actually not that different 11:04
11. Passion vs profession11:52
12. Sacrificing your physical or mental health isn’t worth it 12:45
13. You won’t know unless you try 13:35
14. Highlight the skills you’ve learned + craft your resume, and you won’t be seen as flaky 14:28
15. Always leave on good terms, you never know when you might return, and it’s just common curtesy - always give a two weeks 15:34
16. Seasonal work allows you to fulfill bite sized commitments 16:14
17. For many people, there might not be a dream job, that’s okay 17:40
18. It’s about the life you have outside of work that’s most important 18:30
19. Honesty is key 20:49
20. Don't be afraid to negotiate 21:29

Financial Mistakes In Your 20s
One of the most exciting aspects of your 20s is the prospect of financial freedom. For the first time in our lives, most of us finally get the opportunity to earn and spend as we please in our 20s. However, with this financial freedom comes a great amount of responsibility. With just a few misguided purchases, you might find yourself in six figures of debt before the age of thirty. I am interested in Hungary Pls how can you help me move to Hungary How can you help with any Vocational training program Thank you
Hola friend.
Really disagree about the dentist. Dentists are SO much more affordable and provide excellent care abroad, even in countries that aren’t seen as “developed”-and many speak English to cater to international residents.
Amazing that with limited experience and knowledge, you can actually create a TH-cam video full of mundane observations.
London Underground is older. Why do people think Uk isn’t in Europe
It was tasty?
Is film readily available on Camino or should I fill my pockets ? 😊
You might find a shop in bigger towns like Lorgrono, Burgos, Leon, but I haven't looked. I only took 3 rolls. I found that was plenty. Buen Camino ➡️
@ Thank you for the information . I will bring enough to see me to the next big town and trust to luck cheers . First winter has to be endured 😭
What is your journey like now??
Learning to ask for directions in a language you don’t understand is completely useless, as you won’t understand when you get an answer. Yes, I found that out the hard way. 🫣
it sure is affordable to foreigners and foreigners only - the prices you mentioned for renting a flat are pretty bad if you compare it to the typical hungarian salary, unfortunately
where can you find apartments to rent for long term ?
His pronunciation of Budapest is fawking obnoxious 👎👎👎👎👎👎
One month living? No one month staying in Budapest.

Great video what made you move there may I ask?

I visited Budapest and for tourism it is not cheap. Taxis and restaurants are similar prices than París for example. But for living is cheaper, supermarket lidl is so cheap, public transportation is Also cheap
I agree. Just been there in Budapest from May 13th to June 2nd stayed in two properties in the 5th and 7th Dist. Main plusses not touristy, excellent public transport hardly any waiting , I used buses, trams and metro. Lot of cafes and lot of grocery stores. Loved the thermal baths. Only downside and shocker most of the people either does not know English nor willing to talk to English. I felt locals not so welcoming of visitors, more like a land locked place. Hopefully they become more open minded in the years to come, but does not take away the city’s charm and the historic sites. I would love to visit again for a much more longer stay. Cheers 😀
Super helpful. Thank you Tyler.
How many $s you make there / m ??
Nice video. Thank you!🙂🙂🙂
Great video! 🙂
thankyou
Thank you for your video! Can you please recommend which websites to use to find an apartment in Budapest for two or three weeks in the summer?
there i $more in budape$ht than u$a canada brazil combined
I have no teaching experience. Do you recommend TEFL, CELTA or getting a masters degree from UNED?
Great video. Looking forward to visit Budapest. 🙂
Muchas gracias
Can you recommend a website to find a flat?
An intelligent teacher should notice much more about this fascist country...
Orban is a skilled fascist who knows how to make the right friends. We've got our own hands full here trying to hold on to what we have. If the trains run on time and you only need two kinds of bathrooms a lot of people will be happy to give up the "Thomas Jefferson sailing across the Potomac while skinning a grizzly bear" ideal for a few years.
Haven't you noticed it is the North Korea of Europe? That the people live 8n poverty? Inflation rate of 50%? Or who paid you for the video?
Hey, you don’t by any chance have any pictures or videos of your apartment you’re renting do you? If it’s not too much hassle.. thanks and nice video. Informative 👍🏼

where got $500 a month??
Airbnb + 2022 🙂
Thanks for the video. I am currently constantly on the move, always looking for the next place to live, next language to learn, next culture to experience. I am 27 and so far have lived in Germany, the US, Chile, Spain, Norway and Taiwan and am moving to Hungary in January. But I have noticed that no matter how much I love making all these new connections with people and feeling like I'm a part of a new, exciting community, it fades away quickly as soon as I'm gone. No matter how much I try to hold onto it, in the end my friends are going to keep living their lives and the community I was a part of is going to keep existing without me. It has made me feel more distanced even when I'm with people. (Of course I keep in touch and visit, but it's simply not the same as spending lives together) So I'm reevaluating what I want now. And it's nice to watch this video of someone who obviously understands how rewarding and lonely it feels to move around a lot :) "How, not where." I will remember that and implement it for my year in Hungary :) My mom said that life is like a fractal. No matter where you are, and how broad or detailed your portion of life is, in the end all lives are rich, complex, hard and filled with all kinds of emotions. Feels parallel.
Thank you for sharing this overview of what has undoubtedly been a life filled with unique and exciting stories! I appreciate your authenticity. Where in Spain did you live? And Chile!? That was the first country that caught my eye, yet I still haven't made it there. I totally empathize with this feeling of yours. One of the things that has most surprised me about travel has been the ability to step in to so many lives in such a brief period of time. I think our human curiosity makes this sort of lifestyle incredibly addicting, leading many of us in constant search of the next perspective, yet inevitably longing for the warm familiarity of past connections. Ironically, it seems like the propensity toward nostalgia is often accompanied by a fierce curiosity and desire for novelty. So, what can we do? If you find an answer, tell me :)
You did not make it clear what currency you were talking about, eg USD or AUD (Australian dollar)? Also a fact mistake: Vienna, not Budapest, was the capital of the Austro-Hungarian empire.
USD is the standard mate 😉
They were co-capitals
Thanks for watching!
Love Budapest...and Valencia, Spain which I caught a glimpse of in this vid...😳 but a good overall presentation.
Haha, stock footage can be like that sometimes... I've actually never been to Valencia, but it's at the top of my "to visit" list. Thanks for watching!
Wow, today I came up with the idea to live one month in Budapest and now I found your video 😍
Hope you like it!
*GOOD! I hate owning a car. it destroys your life. I just want a bicycle. I dont wanna be part of N.Aemerica trashy dating scene*
😁 Agreed that car culture can be unhealthy.
I lived there thirty years ago, love the city. 😊
Have you returned to visit since? If so, it'd be very interesting to hear your impression of how things have changed!
@@Tyler_Teacher I'm thinking about going back in a couple of months if I do I'll let you know how things are. Thanks 👍
What happened ?
@@LEK-we2hh I finished teaching and moved back to the US. 🙂
I am planning on visiting Budapest in May 2024 . I really would appreciate if you could share with me about wheelchair accessibility such as public transportation, if there is a wheelchair accessible taxis, hotels. Please any tips would be helpful to make my visit easier
Bus 291 takes you to the chairlift from Nyugati railway station. The bus station is next to it. You have to go to the end station. You can buy a public transport pass at Terminal 2b of the airport for the duration of your stay. All Public Transport can be used. Except airport bus and chair lift. I always look for accommodation by using Google map and typing in Accommodation Budapest. Write the prices immediately. I don't recommend the chairlift area because it's far away, I'd rather recommend the city center. You have a question, I can answer it.
Tyler, you mentioned that a longer-term rental is cheaper than the $500 you’re paying. May I ask how long your rental contract is?
Hey there Susan, thanks for reaching out! I made this video back in March of 2022, so I can't reliably speak to the current rental market in Budapest. I rented that Airbnb for 4 months.
$500 a month doesnt exist
As long as you have good a/c you will be sleeping fine in summer.
I've found "good a/c" tough to come by throughout Europe 😄
@@Tyler_Teacher The mini-splits should be common in S Europe, no ?
