Bearhawk Aircraft Performance - Takeoff, Landing and Cruise
มุมมอง 5K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
A deep dive into what I've learned from flying my Bearhawk aircraft over the past 18 months. Takeoff and Landing technique, and cruise performance. Important: The stall speed at this weight on my aircraft is 38 KIAS or 37 KTAS. The tail low final approaches were made at 45 KIAS (1.2 VS), and 42 KIAS (1.1VS). My normal approach approach speed is 50 KIAS, reducing to touchdown speed on short fina...

Amazing.... reminds me of Alaska
Probably very similar - just a different scale Schu!
Best Bearhawk Video Ever!!
Thanks !
Awesome! Any plans to equip skis?
Thanks. I probably won't put skis on it at this stage anyway.
Beautiful country Nev. Great to see all the "seasons" in one place. Makes me really want to visit and see it in person.
Awesome
Epic Nev, love those shots with the shadow of the aircraft in the shot, well done 👍
Unreal, Nev! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Colby!
Awesome stuff Nev
Thanks Rob ! How's the new build going ?
@@bearhawkblog3527 ha Nev it’s Jay, I changed my channel name
@Bearhawk_Life woah. Hey Jay !!
@Bearhawk_Life Woah. Hey Jay !
Amazing footage! Not a lot of snow for that time of the year?!
Great job guys. Beautifully filmed and the flying looks truly epic. That landing at Gorge Strip is something else!
Having withdrawal symptoms now Neville😊
Nicely done, those shots are amazing. What camera did you use?
G'day Craig. That's done on a GoPro Hero 11. Pleased with how it turned out.
@@bearhawkblog3527 It really looks great. Some of those tracking shots with the terrain, aircraft position, and lighting were surreal. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning. New wheels Nev?
You noticed Rick :) A pair of Alaskan 29'ers no less !
Great shot Neville, weather looked amazing. Wish I could have made it to the flyin. Good to see Steve L was out with you guys too.
Have to catch you next time !
How do I get a ride in NZ? Building a Patrol now.
That's easy Kristin, come to NZ :) Where are you based ? You'll enjoy the Patrol.
Before reading the description, I first thought "Did Nev repaint his Bearhawk??", only to see his orange bird in formation, later in the video. For us in the northern hemisphere, it's a bit jarring to watch these fresh spectacular videos over show-covered mountains, while we're enduring 40ºC sweltering summer heat...
Yes that's Grant Bisset's Bearhawk. I'll post another video in a few days filmed mostly from mine but also showing Grants in flight. Hope you survive the heatwave. I'm up to Oshkosh next week so be good if they can dial the thermostat back a bit :)
Is this the 4-place?
Yes. It's a 4-place B model. I often operate it with the back seats removed, the rear cargo space is cavernous.
Its very nice. I have the plans for one and the rib forms made. You must have the 0-540 to be flying in those mountains. Awesome video.
Yep we're very lucky here. I have the IO540, but the IO360 also works well in the mountains, my friend has one. Good luck with the build.
Hi, is there a Nz Agent for Bearhawk?.
Best contact would be Virgil at info@bearhawkaircraft.com
@@bearhawkblog3527 is there any of the lsa model here in Nz rego as microlight
There is an LSA in Hastings. The engineer at Plane Torque would happily answer questions - he did a beautiful job of building it !
Awesome stuff! You live in a beautiful country. I would love to do some flying out there someday! Some fantastic spots, too! Nice flying! 👏🏻👏🏻
Which Bearhawk version is this? the PATROL? COMPANION?
Hey Joe, this is the BH 4 place Bravo. Hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
@@bearhawkblog3527 Thanks.. "very" helpful vid
I’d love to see more of the beach landings and maybe some comments on techniques
Ok I'll try to add that next time.
Loved the videos! In a pre-buy now for a bearhawk 4. Hope to have as much fun as you, though NZ is definitely prettier.
You'll love it !
Well you certainly make it look fun!
Real nice! Says this guy with a 14% 400' long home strip. I've grown to hate level LZ's, give me a good slope anytime!
Great to watch!
Nicely done! Here in Switzerland, we do the same, but on skis. I’m still in training for that and I struggle with the very steep landings. Yours was great though.
The steeper the better! Says the guy with a 14% 400' long runway at 5600' ASL, that a Maule M-7 made look easy as my LSA RANS.
It would be great to chat sometime. If I do put an airstrip on my property, it would be similar to this one with the added challenge of trees at the end. Do you know how long your ground roll was? I will reach out to you on BH forums.
Yep get in touch for sure. Not sure what the ground roll was on the sloping strips, probably 100m or so, maybe a bit less, but pretty short either way. Trees do make it difficult as does even a fence on the threshold of a short strip.
I wish I had a strip like that on my land.
Great flying!
Love it! - Though I still have no idea where you find such great weather (Dunedin perspective) ;-)
Can you recommend a flight school in Nz, north or south, that I could visit to experience flying in NZ? Specifically multi engine planes. For good experience, fun, and time building.
There's plenty of flight schools to choose from, most will have a twin. I trained and instructed at Air Gisborne many years ago - they're still there and have an excellent reputation. The larger centers all have good flight schools. I've done some more recent training with Canterbury Aero Club in Christchurch. They would steer you in the right direction.
Thank you sir!
music............fark off with it, there is an engine. that is the only noise you need muppet !
Great to see thank you
Wonderful place as well
I can't believe I didn't know your channel! Amazing videos! Subscribed straight away!
Thank you, enjoy !
Wonderful!
Many thanks!
will you ever put it on floats?
Kevin, I didn't order mine with the float attachments and I probably won't. However, there are many Bearhawks that have floats fitted, particularly in Canada/Alaska. I'm sure it'd be a ton of fun!
One day I’ll build a BH4 or 5 and put it on floats in Alaska. What part of NZ are you in? I just visited AKL for a few days last month. I’ll have to explore South Island some time
I'm in Christchurch, the aircraft is hangared in Ashburton an hour further south. Are you flying for a job ?
I work in Maintenance control in the airline industry here in Honolulu, building flight time up for a flying job to make the career change. One day. As soon as I have a good place to build I’ll order a Bearhawk kit. Followed your videos from the start, If I’m ever in your area I’ll have to be on the lookout for an orange 4 place.
Yep give me a call if you're down this way 0291296320. And good luck with the career change, you'll enjoy it.
video show, watching here from Brazil
Hi !
Great flying segments, while some have commented on the music motivating them to go work, I think it detracted from the flying. Is your TW springs supposed to be that loose. Every TW plane I’ve flown they are taught and do not flap around like that.
Thanks for the feedback! The upbeat music was an experiment. To be honest I'm not sure about the tailwheel chains. I've had them detach twice, and I know others that have had them detach, so they're now lock wired in place to help prevent that. If they were tight it would improve steering, but if they detached it would provide tension on one side only and could lead to a groundloop. I've also done a few hours with the springs removed and I like the way it handled - the one exception being taxying in a stronger crosswind was difficult. Certainly appreciate your thoughts.
Are you ever allowed to land first?
Sometimes :) The 4 sloping strips in the first half of the vid were all first time I'd been in, so it's good to watch the touchdown point and line first on a new strip. We also had a film maker switching between planes. His footage is at another level and I hope to link to it once he's finished.
Greaty video and music combination. Subscribed and shared...
Thanks !
Awesome stuff Nev, great to see you enjoying it after all the hours building 👍
Thanks mate ! Hope all going well up there.
This is a Beastly Aircraft
Thank you !! :)
I love to fly a Bear Hawk myself and see all this powerful aircraft has to offer
Where are you and the aircraft based Bernard ?
Very cool Nev!! Great video
Thanks Mike !
Thanks for this, Nev! It motivated me back into my shop this morning to do more fill/sand/fill/sand on my BH fiberglass. I hate that job :-)
Brings back memories Mark, sanding fibreglass is the worst !!
Music and video has motivated me to work all day on my bearhawk. Thanks Nev!
Haha get at it Dan and glad you enjoyed it.
Same with me! @@bearhawkblog3527
Great stuff Nev, and some very fishy looking water from the 5:00 mark. Keep the videos coming
Thanks Jay. Yep that is Grant Bisset's normal neck of the woods - he's got a BH and a fishing rod and a few fav spots !
If that was all in just one day, I'm tired Nev! Some sexy editing skills there mate.👍
Hah yep, half of it was one day which still tired me out. Thanks !
Awesome..! A new Bearhawk video. 😁👍🏻
