Today saturn meets the moon ... and bad weather 🙁
Nice video. I enjoy my celestron Nexstar 6se. 👍🏻🔭🪐
I am still waiting for a new version with bigger aperture although I already had S50. I think a 80mm would be the max for a portable smart telescope since the machine size may be too big if 100mm +
this is all not easy at all for a beginner. way to advanced for me.
Yep. Celestron need to fire their software team. Returned to our Celestron Fi after 2 years since last frustrating time out, and now for sale on Gumtree. Might produce great scope but the enjoyment is destroyed by appallingly bad software.
Thank you for that comparison. They actually perform pretty close and easy better than I would've thought at first. Happy new year! 👍👍🎶🎉🎊
Excellent Video No. 1 of 2025... Thanks again !
Would it be worth it to use a mask to sharpen the focus first?
Despite the limitations, its great for new users to see the planets for themselves, and share with friends. This is our first telescope, and showing Jupiter has amazing and interested others.
Great video with good explanations at each step. You have a new subscriber from western Canada!
One more. I know these scopes were never intended to be planetary. I realize the planets end up for the most part just dots. However, there is a sense of accomplishment. When I captured Pluto for the first time, the feeling of excitement was almost overwhelming. Even though it was just a dot, I said to myself, I did that. And I can share it with friends and family. Learning new stuff every day. Some of it from you. Stay warm. Thank you.
Thank you some much for this guidance! It appears that the Registration Model Options for the StarAlignment tool have changed recently, possibly in the new Lockhart update of PixInsight. I no longer see the option for choosing "Thin Plate Splines" as describe around the 16:00 in your tutorial; however, one can select "Two Dimensional Surface Splines." Doing so opens up the option for selecting "Thin Plate Spline" as the "Radial Basis Function," which I don't recall seeing previously. Do you think this is a good path forward?
can you post a comparison between s50 and d3?planning to get one but having difficulties in choosing one?
what about edu snap smart telescope, are you going to do something new?
Great video! Excellent that you put together such a nice video to highlight the capabilities of these devices. I think the main issue with these devices is the focal length rather than aperture. The planets just don't cover enough pixels on the sensor in the S30 to resolve much detail. No doubt that aperture helps too though!
Tried 20 sec for the first time on the S30. It worked fine. I've read some people have had issues when using other than 10.
you mean for deep sky, right?
@the_space_koala yes. Tried to keep comments brief and to the point. Left off the DS part.
I now have both and as you suggested I use th S30 when light travel is necessary. First images on the S30 came out very well. S50 has better aperture however, the biggest difference is the FOV. Thanks for the compare and answers.
oh, congrats! If you're anything like me you'll end up bringing both with you on your travels ;)
Last year Saturn showed more of the rings. Your Jupiter capture is better than anything I've been able to get. Good job.
thank you!
@the_space_koala Your post is way more advanced than mine. I'm into this only a year. I'll get there.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I really like your videos. I am waiting for good weather to continue testing my S50. I managed to get a very beautiful shot of the Orion Nebula and improved it with a few steps in PixInsight with the basic stretch. I tried it on December 24th with Saturn and it was a disaster. Please continue sharing your knowledge.
thanks so much and I hope you'll get some good skies soon! These little scopes are really not for planets! Deep sky is a better use of your time unless you have loads of good weather :D
I think you could see more detail on planets visually with a good 50mm long focus refractor.
I was expecting to see better details in the stacks from the S50 given the live view, too
Hi. I'm watching and have been imaging Saturn and the moon with my Seestar S50. I've already failed as I've done ten minute videos. I'm 5 minutes 50 seconds in when commenting sorry I should just wait.
you're fine with the 10 minute videos! - make sure they're raw (AVI) not just mp4
@the_space_koala I've got six or seven RAW but I have made the mistake of not going RAW. If yout video goes above ten minutes, you know you have made a mistake as I have now twice. I'm trying to learn from people like yourself the post processing . I have scopes and cameras but life well is life .
When I first saw this I didn't know what I was expecting, But I certainly didn't expect it to be moving so fast. It's amazing what we're able to achieve. 😮❤
What a nice landscape !
it is truly beautiful, I agree!
Wonderful eyes, difficult to focus on the topic! 😍
Thank you very much for this excellent tutorial. I wonder if you would consider showing the full PixInsight process in one of your next videos? What I mean is the use of Cosmetic Correction (with CFA), Debayering, Weighted Batch Processing (do I really need this for Seestar images?), Star Alignment, Image Integration, Dynamic Background Extraction (DBE), and Spectrophotometric Color Calibration (SPCC) for mosaics as well as single frame stacking. PixInsight seems to be the top dog, but the learning curve is enormous. Your shortcut process was VERY helpful for me. Thank you! I got my Seestar S50 two weeks ago (first telescope) and I am very impressed what is possible today to get amazing results in no time.
Really awesome video, thank you. If I wanted to drizzle my image, how would I integrate that process?
I’m a bit confused once it rotates between plans or objects will the guiding recalibrate automatically if I have a 2600 duo
you would have to select "guiding data rotates with FOV" - the ASIAIR will know to rotate automatically and no need to recalibrate!
I was considering buying an S30, but the test specifications on the DWARF III seem better. Do you have an opinion?
well it is marginally better due to the slightly larger aperture, and much better due to the EQ mode. However, ZWO is currently working on the EQ mode and at that point the difference will be very small.
Great job. I just ordered the Seestar and it should be here sometime in January. I think I will try to put off doing any mosaics for a little while so that I can learn how to post process them myself. Thank you for the great video.
congrats! yeah I would also start with something simple
Hi! Thanks for the review. I also run sessions with the AsiAir. Can you tell me if saves the rotation info in the fits header?
it's not the CAA rotation but the sky rotation, which is already saved today
Great video. I think i have decided i don't need it. If it was a filter wheel with a rotator built in so that only the camera rotates and not the filter wheel then i think i would be interested in getting it.
I wouldn't want anything between my filter wheel and camera! the closer the filters are the better
Wow! This place is on my todo list!
Received my S30 this week, tried it briefly. It's really quiet. ZWO didn't just repackage the S50. Only had time to capture pleiades. Compared to S50, pretty close. Concern about smaller aperture, but I think the better camera helps. S50 replacement? No. The larger lens on the S50 allows more light, that's a good thing. Same APP too. No learning curve. Need to play with wide angle soon.
That was my point too! It's not a "which is better" question - it's more about "what you want to image"
another excellent summarised review
thank you!
is it possible to use "DeepSkyStacker" for S50-FITS files?
yes it is! - this mosaic process described here won't work though
This is the best discussion on this topic I have seen to date, and that includes the numerous written sources I have seen. You are a terrific teacher...thanks!
thanks so much for saying that!
How did you get rid of the white haze and field rotation when you processed ?
background extraction (I mostly use GradientCorrection)
@ got it. Thanks
You are so cute and smart. Great review! I am buying soon. Thanks.
I always look forward to your deeply insightful videos. I used three FMA180 telescopes at F4.5 in a monochrome parallel setup, and in my experience, it was the most fascinating configuration. It allows you to capture most of the C/N in a single night, and with two nights, you can achieve even more vibrant and rapid imaging.
Of course, you tripled the light collecting area! I also like to do multi scope shooting sessions of the same target!
Please what are your thoughts by comparing e.g. Askar 85sqa vs askar 65phq or askar 106sqa vs askar 80phq? Would you see 106sqa as a fast scope with focus issues explained at 18:13 or spatial frequency issues or is it a standard optical design? Which f ratio is really fast and the limit for an apsc sensor like asi2600mc?
I wouldn’t classify any of these scopes as “fast” and they wouldn’t cause you such issues. The problems begin to show under f/4 and the lower you go the more problems you may have
@the_space_koala Many thanks for your fast reply. Forgot to wish you a happy new year. Which one of my 4 mentioned scopes would you choose if you had to for which image?
❤ wonderful journey.
Thank you very much for such a magnificent video and above all for your professional ethics. Those of us who are just starting out in the world of astrophotography should believe in influencers. I will believe in everything you recommend to us, because we can trust in your professional (unpaid) guidance. I think that if there is a price gap, the ZWO SEESTAR cost me $450. I have my eye on the Celestron Origin $4000 and the quality of the images are brutal and the ones you showed were very beautiful. Please continue learning a lot so that you can share with us and please slow down the processes with Pixinsght to take notes. I wish that all your knowledge multiplies.
The whole process of this topic video seems to defeat the whole object of pack and go and snap the shots like it was intended... IMO way to complicated for a easy to use pice of kit... Great informative video though thank you
I tend to agree with you on one side, but on the other if someone already bought a smart telescope and they want to get better images I think it’s great and right that they try to get the best possible images out of it
@@the_space_koala Totall... As having looked more into it ... its definately got to be done and trialed thanks
Excellent review especially with the Blinks...
Thank you kindly!
those cheap hard plastics are so bad. for 4k it should be a soft rubber material.....they are so greedy
Do you mean the mount? I tend to agree
