Yep it opened out here in Texas Saturday. I had a guitar gig Friday Night so, I was out late and didn't hunt opening morning. So I just got in my third hunt. It was cool Saturday evening and this morning. This evening it was hot and the skeeters were bad. Saturday evening I missed a spike. He jumped my string at about 18 yards. After that, I may or may not be armed with my 42 pound Bear Cheyenne recurve. That's my choice. When I go out for deer I believe I should be as lethal as I can be - for the animal's sake. Traditional Archery is kinda like Golf. Lots of people struggle with it. So like Golf there are people making a living trying to fix the folks that are struggling. You definitely want your string hand and forearm in alignment. A static release is best for a hunter, in my opinion. As for draw check, I personally don't use one. I just draw to my anchor point, focus and release. I don't want anything going through my mind other than putting the arrow where I want it.

I think if you want to shoot Barebow or even serious 3D. An elevated rest is gonna generally give better arrow flight. If your focus is on hunting I think off the shelf is more managable. Closer to centershot also generally makes a bow more efficient. Or gives a more equal pull on the limbs.

All my bows I elevate the rest 1/4 of an inch either with leather or a flipper style rest. I like a slight angle downwards between the shelf and the sight window for the arrow to stay in place. This helps if its a windy day and the wind is moving that arrow outwards. I do like thicker velcro as it helps contain the arrow.

@@bradlauber9097 thank you for your insight. I am going to play around with it, after another week of rest on my shoulder, and see what kind of arrow flight i get. My personal opinion. That style of riser is made more for an elevated rest. It has a wide flat shelf and flat window instead of being radiused for better arrow clearance. It also has the burger hole for threading an adjustable elevated rest. You can build up a section of the rest to get good flight as well. I always get cleaner arrow flight from elevated rests. A threaded rest placed through the burger hole can also allow for fine tuning of arrow flight. No wrong way, too each their own. Enjoy the process.

If you cant the bow, off the shelf is better. As you pivot, the arrow makes wider arc above your knuckle with elevated rest. The greater this arc, the greater the change in point of impact. Many sight shooters use a level to make sure the bow is perfectly level. Shooting with bow vertical, elevated rest allows less arrow interference. I shoot both ways. Target-elevated good. Hunting or hunting practice or 3d shoots-off the shelf or knuckle.

If you need instructions on installing yarn silencers into a bowstring, maybe you shouldn't be shooting a bow!

nice build. I shoot woods and I tune all my arrows full build. Mostly because I break some arrow when starting the tune process when bare shaft. Plus you have to compensate for tail weight if they are not fletched.

That’s a big 10-4. Thank you very much for watching and commenting. Best of luck on the range and in the woods.
