As a hobby, I cut firewood and modify mainly Stihl pro chainsaws, and a few Husqvarna along the way. With the occasional auto, welding fab or bbq smoking/cooking videos. Thank's for stopping by.

I thought it had what an xtorq has. It cut but an OE 372 would feel more like what you wanted. Nice supporting cast!
@M2theBchainsaws Hello Mike, after looking back at things, I think this saw does not like the low raker setting like my other saws do. Originally, this saw seemed to do pretty well with the 32" bar and new EXL chain. This build is different, being my first 372 and a strato saw. The cylinder is in tough shape, but I have given it some intake timing and raised the uppers, but no cuts yet. I will see if I have another chain with a more appropriate raker height and give it a try. I'm back to work tomorrow 😞. Thank you.
Same part number on the manual calls for 75w90 GL4. Cant find it.Dealer has this same one as yours.Im afraid to use it.Did they updated the fluid?Does it say 301 LSC fluid? Can we use synthetic 75w90 gl4 alternative? The parts catalog shows 75w90 gl4 lsc for haldex lsc differentials.Even the canadian part number says 301 lsc.P/N 88863350.
@batsnvultures Hello, It's been a while, but I believe the SAE 75W GL-4 #88863349 was recommended in my owners manual. It took me about 5 months to get a quart of it thru a dealer out of Texas. This dealer just put it out on the parts locator and had it directly shipped to me when someone got an order of this fluid.I didn't want to chance using a different type from the local parts store, I wanted the original fluid. My local dealer ( a regular GM, not Cadillac) could not tell me for sure if there was an updated fluid. I'm not sure if I can find the info of the dealer I got it from, but I will look if you need it. Thank you.
That dog dont hunt..... Get a 462 and it cuts. Im not impressed with Husky saws other then the 395xp. That is a BEAST but its also 20lbs...
Hello, yes, I agree. This saw was not too impressive , and the first strato saw I've ever messed with. I got this saw blown up off Ebay. I was going to convert it, and probably still will. I cleaned the alum transfer off, but the cylinders in rough shape. I opened up the lowers and used a pop-up with a thin base gasket and 1" pipe muffler mod. I did more work on it today and will see how it goes. Either way, it's no great loss. Thank you for your comment.
My 372 x-torque boged down in stock trimm, if I dogged it in. I ported, mufflermodded and deleted the strato ports. Now it runs way better. It doesn't like deep raker gauge.
Hello, I am definitely guilty and a fan of lower rakers, depending on what I'm cutting. This is my first 372 that was blown up, and I did my best to save the cylinder. At this point, I've cut some of the skirt, opened the lowers, thin base gasket, Hyway pop-up, and a muffler mod. I will start changing the intake and upper timing and hopefully improve a little. This was my first strato and a good one to play with. If it doesn't work out, it's no great loss. What did you mean by deleted the strato ports?I appreciate your comment. Thank you
Well I’ve use Husqvarna’s for the past 18yrs and never had any issues. After watching you Cut, I can Honestly say with 100% Confidence it’s the Operators Fault. Sorry but not Sorry you have NO clue how to use a Chainsaw. My Suggestion would be too Learn how to Operate a Chainsaw before making and Posting Reviews
I'm so sorry to disappoint you 😞.
Sounds like the carb needs to be adjusted. Doesn’t sound like it’s getting up in RPMs at all lol
Hello Evan, I agree with you. A friend of mine at a Husqvarna dealer thought it was quite rich and could be leaned out more also. This is the first X-torq I've played with, and the cylinders kinda messed up anyway, so I have nothing to lose. I'll play with the intake and transfer timing a little and see how that goes. In the end, I'll convert it. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching.
Right? Either the assembly of the operator.. Both are the same dude
Sorry, I don't understand.
i use the same saw but non xtorque in australia in very hard wood, stock saw 24 inch bar no problem at all its a great saw, i dont touch rakers eaither
Hello, Im sure it's the work I did on the cylinder that I'm not impressed with, but it's all for fun. The saw has a Hyway popup, .009 base gasket, 1" pipe muffler mod, and I opened up the lower transfers. The cylinder was repaired, but I don't know how long it will last. I'm just playing around with this one and plan to do more to it. Hopefully, I can improve on it. Thank you
@@woodcutter4481 ah makes sense
File down the rakers let her chew
Yeah I like the OE 372 better but I've only fooled with one 372 xtorq thus far...
It's still fun playing with it, and there's no great loss if it doesn't work out. Thank you
Strato engine are a different animal when porting for sure
This is a good one to practice on. I'll convert if it gets to messed up. Thank you.
Why aren’t you impressed? By nice to have more bar on there. What is your raker depth?
Hello, I bought this saw blow up with a lot of aluminum transfer. I used a pop-up , .009 base gasket, 1" pipe muffler mod, and opened up the lower transfers. I'm not sure how long the cylinder will last, so this was a good one play with. I expected it to hold a little more rpm, but I am going to do more and hopefully improve on it. The rakers are around .036 and usually works fine with my other saws cutting logs off the pile. Thank you
Ide go to .030 on rakers
@tuckerburk8499 Hello tuckerburk8499, I agree that would be a better setting for this one. I just took it apart again for some intake and upper transfer work. This clyinder was repaired, and the piston is again getting snug just above the exhaust port. I will keep playing with it until the cylinder is no longer usable and convert it. I don't want to ruin the bottom end. All fun and nothing to lose. Thanks for the comment. 👍
3 pulls cold - sweet
So far, so good 👍
Very nice saw Mr. WOODCUTTER...
It starts great and seems to run well, but I'm going to dig into it a little more. If it doesn't work out, I will convert it. Thank you Brian2bears 👍
Thank you, sir i will fix it !
It worked well for me. Best of luck. 👍
@@woodcutter4481 sir, I fixed it after watching the video (Very strong fixation)Thank you.
Nice metric to show, the how long to get to 300. That’s the number I shoot for. It’s conservative in my experience and they drop in like your did. Thanks for viewing
I was happy with the results, thanks Mike 👍
That worked well Woodcutter. I use an old toaster oven but have to listen to my wife saying I'm cooking chainsaws in the shop again... hahahaha
That would be another fantastic option. You'd have the best of both worlds. Thank you 😁
Well done WOODCUTTER 44...
I'm quite satisfied with the performance so far. Thank you. 👍
Very good Rob. That's the same heat gun I have. I like mine a lot.
I'm glad I ended up going with the Wagner, and very happy with all the adjustable functions. Thanks Clint
How did it run? I like for your follow up video..... didn't see it. How did it run???
Hello, there is a video of some testing (for fun) with a rich tune running a 24" bar w/ 3/8 chain. This saw will be run with a 18" .325 8 pin. The video is titled: Ported Stihl 026 agressive 24" 7 pin 3/8 RS full comp dry oak/maple. Thank you for your interest. .
😮 mantap
Runs well. Sounds great. Nice job Woodcutter👍. Doing a muffler mod to my 372xp- putting pipe on pto side. Making it dual port. It's already got a top vent. Question: will my saw benefit from the carving out a shallow in the pipe. Havent seen that trick before. Was just going to insert the pipe. Thanks
This is the first 372 I've run, and the first pipe like this I've tried. I wanted a spark arrestor and kinda just threw this pipe together. It seems like most guys just use the pipe itself. I don't know if you need a screen, but the pipe itself should work fine. Thank you.
Thanks for your reply.
That looks ands sounds mint! Nice job.
There's a possibility the cyl plating will survive. Overall, I'm satisfied and looking forward to running it a bit more with a smaller bar, of course. I will most likely be trying my hand at some machine work on this cylinder. I did enjoy working on this one. Thanks Mike
Running good Woodcutter 👍👍
I'm happy with it so far. I'll get the smaller bar on it and play with it from there. I will be trying my hand at some machine work, hopefully fairly soon. This cylinder would be a good one to start with. Thank you.
@@woodcutter4481 Good stuff - looking forward to seeing the content on your machine work
Strato’s are a little different animal..
😮😮😮 mantapp
Is that fluid for the differential or the halted unit?
The fluid is for the Haldex unit.
Slick seal install Woodcutter 👍👍. Sometimes that spacer bushing on the PTO side can be a booger to get in without jacking up the seal...
Stihl 044 has the same bushing, but I have the step tool. I haven't had a problem using the tin can yet, but I have heard of people using plastic. That seems like a good idea. Thank you.
Hi Rob. Good job. Wagner makes a great heat gun with adjustable temperature,
I got this heat gun from a buddy of mine many years. He used it for wallpaper removal. Thanks for the info Clint , I will check out the Wagner. I hope all is well. Thank you. 👍
@@woodcutter4481 Thanks Rob. The first heat gun I got was a battery powered DeWalt. It is useless for big jobs. It eats batteries. Plus, it has no temperature control. It's okay for shrink wrap on wires and such. We are good here. I hope you are also. Take care Rob.
Yeah I just use heat & cold for my crank & bearings but those factory install tools look really slick 👍👍
I probably could have made a little heat shield around the case to gather the heat better, but I think I'll get a more powerful gun. I must agree that the tool works great. Thank you. 👍
New to chainsaw work. This is the best chain sharpening video I have watched!
Hello Frank, while not a complete sharpening video, I hope it included some info that will help you out. Remember to use the proper sized file for the chain your sharpening. Keep your cutters equal length (LH + RH) and properly adjust your raker depth. Good luck, and thanks for the comment. 👍
Nice work Woodcutter 👍👍. Yeah you have to hold your jaw just right to get the gas tank snaked out of the crank case....
I'm glad to finally be on the 372. THANK YOU. 👍
Yes I think that’s for the best! She really looks like she does not want to be bothered by you or anyone for that matter!😂
If she’s so tired, Why didn’t you bring her back to the swamp?
The Turtle will find its way back, like most other wild creatures do, but I assume you already know that.
@@woodcutter4481 🤐😂‼️
Years back I used to have this humongous male snapping turtle. We had this gigantic antique bathtub what I used to keep this thing in. The amazing part is this turtle would not bite. He did probably for about the first 5 minutes whenever he was caught and I mean I caught that turtle from age 14 to age 21. Basically I take him home and I feed him and he would eat and eat. Eventually he would fatten up to about 45 lb. When he had his fill, he simply would just climb out of the tub and head back to the swamp which was about a mile or so from the house. The craziest thing I did is when I was probably 15 to 16. We're going back to 1970 here. I had this huge old knapsack where I cut out the inside. I cut a hole out of the bottom for the turtle's tail and would lower him in. What would happen if he wanted a view he would kind of stand up put the paws on my shoulders in the head would come up behind my head and just look around. Needless to say it was one of the freakiest things that anybody ever saw in the local mall when I walked in there with that. Now at nearly 70 I kind of wonder if that turtle is still alive I would be pretty sure he is.
@@keithm1138 wow that’s an amazing story, thanks for sharing!
@keithm1138 Thankfully, you didn't get bitten at the mall because he was most likely too busy looking at the goldfish in the platform shoes.😁 Thank you.

I appreciate your comment. Thank you
Like butter.
So far, it seems to run well. I believe the owner will be happy with this saw. Thank you for the comment. 👍
Nice job 👍on your filling woodcutter.
Occasionally, I run across this and never take the time to show it. While not a complete sharpening video, I do hope it may help someone. I appreciate the comment. Thank you.
@woodcutter4481 There is always someone out there who will appreciate it because i know I did when i was first learning how to do it 🙂. Because even for the ones who already know how to do it, it's always nice, having a refresh or being taught a different method of filling.
Zasto tako mnogo ulja u benzinu?
Saw was just built and has a fresh hone with a new piston & ring. Thank you
She sounds like a rowdy lil saw - nice work 👍👍
I think it will perform nicely, but we'll have to see. 👍
The stone needs presoaked to better preserve the life of the stone
That's a great idea, and It makes total sense. Thank you.
@@woodcutter4481 Curious what the weight savings are for the light weight wrist pin and where you buy them?
@markmetzger5430 Hello Mark, this saw was a Stihl 024 super using a Meteor piston. The Meteor pin weighs approximately 11.3G. The pin that was shortened was a Stihl 026 OEM wrist pin (from my local dealer) that weighed approximately 8.7G when shortened. Thank you for your question.
@markmetzger5430 Actually, the short video was matching the 026 pin to the factory 024 pin that was in the saw. To my surprise, the Meteor pin was much shorter. I ended up chucking the wrist pin in a cordless drill and used the bench grinder finishing it off with the stone again.
@@woodcutter4481 Thanks for the detailed answer! Reciprocating weight reduction in these small engines is a great positive benefit.
Where did you get the 024 new filter?
Hello Michael, I believe the last filter I bought came from my local dealer a couple of years ago. You may find one on Ebay, but generally, I find you get better prices at the dealer on most items. Thank you.
It cleaned up really well - nice work Woodcutter 👍👍
Trying the acid was new to me and didn't do any filming. Although there is no rush for this saw, I kinda just winged most of the filming to get thru this so I can get to the 372 stuff. Thanks again. 👍
@@woodcutter4481 yeah that Aaron A Lynch is a smart feller - I've picked up a lot that he's put down. Looking forward to your 372 content...
@@902hand7 ABSOLUTELY
Ported?
Yes, I did quite a bit to this one, kinda cleaning up someone else's work to my liking. No machine work this saw. There are videos on this saw ( Ebay MS 460) if you're interested. Thank you.
Ingenious...find and rebuild an old WILTON, then fab up a saw mount...excellent job sir...
Credit for the vice idea goes to: WestCoastMuscleSaws TheChainSawGuy . I had seen one in his shop while watching a video. I do appreciate the mention, THANK YOU!
Great video work here...
After a large # of attempts, I was ok with this take. This particular WOOD BOSS 024 AVS is what I started my channel with. I used the words "Learning to Port" in this series of videos. Years later, I'm still learning. Thank you.
Cool to know that the AVS wears the closed port cylinder super cylinder.
I actually got sidetracked from the video I intended to make, but I'm glad I did. I would assume this applies to all the AVS, but I don't know enough to guarantee. Interestingly enough, this Wood Boss 024 AVS chainsaw is what I started my TH-cam channel with. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Slick!
I'm looking forward to using it. Hope all is well. Thanks Chris.
@@woodcutter4481 Nice! Good to see your getting back to some work… nothing too strenuous
Congratulations on 1K subs and your WILTON acquisition...I too am a WILTON owner, the bullet machinist vice. Your improvised puller was ingenious. I want you to try clean ATF as a penetrant if you haven't. Excellent overhall/rebuild... You are looking good and seem energetic sir...blessings to you...
I appreciate the congrats. The Pow-R-arm works great at a total cost of aprox $138.00. Not to bad. I believe your Wilton bullet vise would be worthy of the "Tool of the day" if you so choose. Post OP appointment with my surgeon soon. I feel good, and I hope all looks good. Thank you.

🙏👍
Great idea for a base gasket.
It's a little bit of work, but it's what I had and the thickness I wanted. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching!
Yeah that 1st puller you used looks like you need to hold your jaw just right to get it to work. The 2nd one looks way easier to use 👍👍
While the modification worked great on the ignition side, it still has some challenges on other seals. If you spend enough time messing around with it, you can usually get the job done. IMO, I would not recommend this tool. Yes, the other tool is excellent. This was the first time I used it. I've often thought about trying to make a similar tool for the Ignition side. Thank you.
Love it I just put a new oem ms260 piston and cylinder on my 024av
Hello, I'm aware that cylinder swaps can be done on these, but I never tried it. Hope you saw runs great. Thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
