I NEVER Finish DIY Projects
I’m a DIYer with ADHD, and this is my chaotic journey of unfinished projects, impulsive decisions, and creative ideas left halfway. Use code 50MATEOSTABIO to get 50% OFF plus free shipping on your first Factor box at bit.ly/4fPJtJJ
This video isn’t just about unfinished projects; it’s about the struggle, creativity, and quirks that come with tackling everything at once. Over the years, I’ve built a lot in my home-stairs, a driveway, even a backyard oasis-but I’ve also left countless projects half-done: kitchen cabinets without proper finishes, closets without drawers, and a bathroom still waiting for shelves.
ADHD shapes how I approach DIY. It’s chaotic, impulsive, and sometimes exhausting, but it’s also uniquely rewarding. Join me as I reflect on my ADHD-driven projects, laugh at the chaos, and hopefully inspire others who share this experience to embrace their own process.

If you'll forgive my pedantry, that's not a skid steer. Skid steers have wheels. That's a subcompact track loader. I do understand I'm splitting hairs, but they really are two different tools.
@@better_than_nothing i believe the proper name is a mini skid steer. Google it!

GOOD JOB BROTHER, MAGA 2024... FOREVER. LOVE FROM MICHIGAN
My ADS leads me to never even start and finish a single project at all because I'm overwhelmed with it before I even grab a tool. Everything must be planned and calculated but I have a very bad visual ability. I just can't imagine how things look in my head which leads to a lot of frustration. The patio, pergola, garage floor, driveway that you build is so beyond my motivation and energy levels. Okay, I live in an apartment and somehow work as a landscaper but I always need guidance and a supervisor or else I will literally sit hours in front of a stone slab and won't be able to finish this work because I am unsure if I did it right. Just a major drawback of having ADS/ADHS, I'm not able to concentrate for 3 seconds and my mind is running so fast that I try to get every atom of the project in order. Impossible. Thanks for sharing how you deal with this. It's not a cool and hip disease you get diagnosed from TikTok shorts. It really means suffering for me and I need strong chemicals in order to function properly in stressy situations which is such a loss of life quality. Alright, enough rant. I'm looking forward to your new projects, finished or unfinished, it was a pleasure to watch you do stuff and I always got excited for the comedy but at the end of your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching and for sharing! Cheers!
A brilliant job young man !
Thanks!
I have a drain similar to yours at the bottom of my driveway/entrance to the garage, the concrete is cracked and has heaved. Ive been stressing figuring id need to hire a contractor to bust it up and repour, but I ne ee thought about using cold patch. Seems like a nice little fix!
@@caseysmith1718 glad you got something from this video!
Just the best job ever 👍🏿
thank you!
You're still functioning fairly ok, it seems. Do you follow a treatment?
Theres different levels. I choose to not take any medication. Although sometimes i think about it
@@mateostabio I'd like to start a treatment myself. I'm myopic, I wear glasses. If I had diabetes, I'd take insulin, I have ADHD, that would be silly not to try at least. But that's because I cannot stand my current state
Turned out great 👍 but all I can think of is how much work and time a skid steer would have saved you.
Tell me about it
"Maybe a house is never meant to be finished" really resonates with me. Everything you said on your mentality matches exactly with how I feel with my permanent renovation house. Unless renovating is your job and your life, life will get in the way.
Is this my video? I feel like this could be my video...

Wood paneling in the garage - nice exterior panels - give a nice woodshop feel with easy-to-hang-anything walls. And yep, feel the finishing problem - get just to about 95%, and move onto something else. Time to make a list and check them off! Just video them all - it'll be therapeutic...!

Too much effort, should have use metal stripes and epoxy some sand to fill the cracks. Would make the floor compact again. Then make you epoxy floor as whished. Would make this whole get everything out not needed.
Maybe that would last a year , max. Before it starts to crumble again.
My ocd can’t handle these things 😫😂great video so accurate
Thanks bud!
Excellent work man! Job well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
I designed a battery back up my furnace and refrigerator. 4 months later it was only the news that another ice storm was coming that I finished setting it up
Hahaha good thinking!
Mateo, rip those trees on fence line out and replace them with Emerald Green Arborvitae. They are evergreen, thus don't drop leaves in the winter and provide very good wind and sun blocking in the spring and summer months. They can be planted on 4 foot spacing or staggered 6 foot spacing if you do two rows with roughly 3 feet between the rows. The base will grow to about 4 feet in diameter, and the trees will grow 6-9 inches per year topping out at anywhere from 10 to 15 feet after 10 years. Getting taller ones is nice but the can be expensive. Also the don't require any work after 6 months of watering when planted. Just trim the dead prances if any. Rain and sun will do the rest.
@@gradertfamilymakes ya, its an idea. I did do the math. I would have to be strategic and do it on a side I really want that. It would be awesome, but costly because I would for sure want the 8ft evergreens.
@mateostabio ouch. Maybe your buddy with the arbo truck has a line wholesale. You could also do a spring time project to propagate your own arborvitae. Just need to get one now and keep it alive over winter. Then root clippings and grow them out. Content too.
Sounds like a hobby for someone with a big piece of land. I wish. If I do it, itll probably be quick purchase of 30 or so and plant them all along the yard. Great suggestion tho. Thanks! And yea, probably Jimbo could get me a good deal
I hear you loud and clear 🤣🔫
🍻
Not bad for a first time doing this. Like anything, you have to start somewhere. You can really see how much skill and effort goes into doing this for a living.

This is my daily story with programming!
Why didn’t you keep the dirt onsite instead of hauling it all away?
Lol, i should have mentioned it because I must have 10000 comments about this question 😂. I cannot see into the future, i did not plan to need dirt. I did not know until day 5 or day 6 that i would need to level out that side of the yard. If i would have known. I would have kept 4 or 5 trucks. Its easy to assume after just looking at these videos, but when ur in it tackling tasks. Its not quite that way in real life 😂
