I like the roof material on the pergala, I learned alot on the sidewalk repair. I had never seen the box foam you used. My brother in law has a corner of his slab on his house that has dropped, I think the jack and foam may be a repair he can do also. I'm so glad you was able to make such a nice back yard paradise for you family. You busted your but at the mother in laws house on the drive and sidewalk.

chief I must say I've now watched this video finished from start to end. this really turned out amazing and the fact that you went old school made it so much more interesting there is quicker way out there but yeah the old school does it for me. thanks for sharing I'm looking forward to the next project. this is to me a true reflection of DIY I've seen on the internet so far with all the struggles. other or previous videos made it look so easy forgetting we don't always have the resources available on hand. we sometimes have to go and rent the tools we require to get these DIY projects done. #southafricaposted

    • @mateostabio

This is exactly it, You got it. I wanted something original, that didn’t use metal brackets, and so I designed a minimal structure with old joinery. All the videos out there are about how you can make a gazebo in 4 hours, but I wanted a masterpiece that would last 50 years. Thanks for the comment!

@@mateostabio Absolutely....I drew my first building permit April 1st in 1972 and finally hung up my Thoroughgoods on April 1st 2022. You got what's going young blood....just do yourself and your family a favor and take care of your feet; knees and lower back. Orthopedic inserts for you feet if needed; knee pads of a good build (Atas 46 is my choice) and I go make friends with a Chiropractor with good credentials to keep care of your back. If you spend $500 a year on those three things....best $500 you could ever spend.
1st rule....the biggest reason for construction injuries are usually old men thinking they're young men.
2nd rule.....the second reason for construction injuries are usually young guys that think the old guys (FOGs) don't know what they're talking about.

I built a basic pergola for our yard recently and was stunned by the amount of work you put into this! Not only the pergola itself but all the concrete leveling around the pool and pavers, it's a staggering amount of work. My pergola build was maybe 1/2 the size and didn't require even 25% of the stuff you did, and I am still putting finishing touches on it. Extremely well done!

This is such an impressive achievement. Thanks for demonstrating that with skill and ingenuity you can build something amazing without every (and the most expensive) power tools in the store. So much old school there, like when I was kid helping my dad build. I haven’t read the comments, but I’m sure there are a fair number taking you to task for no safety glasses and for your lack of ladder safety, but what I noticed more was the way your kids helped their dad. Thanks for sharing this video. BTW, I found you first on the video about raising the pool deck and paving the yard. Kudos on all if it - I’m sending these to my son with a note to get busy.

This looks great! Not to be the safety police, but sir you need some eye protection when cutting that wood. I can also feel the excitement at 12:06, as I can only imagine the struggle. Thanks for recording the process. You did a great job, this is definitely impressive.

I’m making a pergola using Toja grid , yours is outstanding will last forever. Thanks for the brilliant idea of using that tar paper on foundational footings part of columns. I’m trying to make a pergola that acts like a car port for my tesla model y. Next project should be put a shitload of solar panels on that structure and eliminate your electric bill . Beautiful structure!

Very respectable....jealous you had the gear to move stuff. Love the blue skin but to take it a step ferther if they arent pt (as yours are clearly not) is to burn the ends that will be buried. Just a passion of mine. You totally have demonstrated practical old values in timber framing...

Really well done Mateo. I'd say the substrate for the patio is overbuilt, but am also familiar with Mtl winters;). That should withstand 5 ice storms and 3 hurricanes and not move a mm. Impressive work
