I'm a 60 something year old guy that off-roads and overlands and plays bass in a rock band. I won't be doing it forever so I like to save and share my adventures with others. Nothing lasts forever, so the memories will be sweet to look back on further on down the road!
Usal Beach/Fort Bragg Overlanding with stops in Oakhurst, Santa Cruz and Morro Bay.
The main destination was Usal Beach in northern California. One of the few places in California where you can drive right up on the beach and set up camp. If you don't mind the deep sand, you'll have a great time like we did.
First, I made a big detour on my way to Usal Beach. I headed to my favorite camping area I've been going to for 45+ years. Just north of Oakhurst, and just south of Yosemite up in the High Sierras off Highway 41. I had trouble with my Go Pro the first day so I had to put up some still photos instead.
The rest of the trip went great. The coastline in northern California is absolutely breathtaking. If you haven't driven it at least once, you owe it to yourself to do it.
I found the best breakfast place on the planet called Eggheads in Ft. Bragg. There's also great Mexican food and margaritas in town also.
We got to help out a young couple who got stuck in the sand with the tide quickly approaching. They didn't really take our advice about camping near the surf, but were very lucky not to get stuck again.
The coastline in northern California is absolutely breathtaking. If you haven't driven it at least once, you owe it to yourself to do it.
In a way, the trip home was even better. Our group split up after Usal so I drove down the coast solo through San Francisco (ugh, the traffic!) by myself staying at various campsites including ones in Santa Cruz and my favorite place Morro Bay. One of my most enjoyable trips ever.
Hope you enjoy the video!

Auga Fria National Monument Overlanding Arizona
มุมมอง 199ปีที่แล้ว
This was a great trip to Arizona to visit the Agua Fria National Monument. Very historical Indian sites scattered on the mesa 40 miles north of Phoenix AZ. Structures built 1000 years ago that were up to three stories now crumbled down to the foundation, petroglyphs dating back another 250-450 years and shards of potterty. For me the weather was perfect. Cool, overcast and a hint of rain which ...
DEATH VALLEY AND PANAMINT RANGE TRIP NOVEMBER 2022
มุมมอง 81Kปีที่แล้ว
Plenty of adventure in a four day trip! I narrate as I drive (maybe too much!) Hard to boil it all down to 46 minutes: Golar Wash Rd., Mengel Pass, Barker Ranch, abandoned mines, Geology Cabin, Stone Cabin, Chicken Turn, Ghost Town of Ballarat, maybe some UFO's, Manly Peak, Emmett Harders cabin, World Beater Mine cabin and more. This a was a great trip with great friends. Our guides John and De...
MOJAVE ROAD OVERLANDING NOVEMBER 2021
มุมมอง 2.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a 150 mile overlanding trip across the Mojave Desert I made in my Jeep TJ. Yeah, I'm a little late posting it. Our group entered from Parker Arizona and exited at Afton Road to I-15 in California. Basically from the Colorado River to the Mojave River. 3 day trip, 6 fun friends. Lots of sites like and abandoned fort, Spooky Canyon, Travelers Monument, the Mojave Desert Mail Box and more....
White Rim Trail Utah Oct. 2021 Hard Scrabble and Murphy's Hogback trails

Murphy's Hogback and Hard Scrabble trails A lot of the video's on TH-cam show these trails as groomed and graded. They were anything but that when we took them. This is a condensed version of a much longer overview I did of the White Rim Trail. Most of the trip was easy and uneventful execpt for these two trails. Also beware it was 105 degrees the first week of October for our trip. You can fin...
White Rim Trail Canyonlands National Park Utah
มุมมอง 4703 ปีที่แล้ว
(Note: The first 3:30 minutes is a condensed version of my 11hr road trip from Socal to Canyonlands.) This video clocks in at just over an hour and a half. Should give you a good idea of what to expect. This adventure begins with taking 191/279/142 to Canyonlands National Park and then Potash Rd. otherwise known as 142 County Rd. or Schafer Rd. First day was pleasant but very hot on the 5-6 hr ...

Dudes Got Blues is a premier Rockin' Classic Rock Blues band in the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley. Come see us! You won't be disappointed! Find us on Facebook and Twitter.
Please can someone tell me, how the hell do they service the toilets??? I mean we do this for fun, but does someone actually drive up there as their job to do that??????
Great band.
Thanks for going to the trouble to produce this video and posting it. I was wondering if my 2WD Chevy pickup would make it, and I stopped at 2:19, heck NO! I have some short videos of driving some trails.
Thanks for the memories. I loved camping on Murphy's Hogback. The sunsets and sunrises are just spectacular!
I was there last September 2023. Beautiful video of gorgeous scenery! Congratulations and greetings from Greece
Chicken Rock does not disappoint!
What a cool Oakhurst camping spot!!!! We love both Yosemite area and camped in Usal too. Great locations to explore and Mendo seems to have neverending trails.
Somewhere up that Cyn there is a section of road bridge made of telephone poles chain link fence and rock ir remember pucker pass lol
Yes! It been rebuilt. We drive over the area starting at about 5:22 on the way to Pucker Pass or Chicken Corner as it’s also known. Good catch. It’s quite an experience.
The cabin with a urinal on porch lol
I did it on a bike!!
Hah. You’re my hero! We saw a guy on a bike. It was 105 degrees!!
Such a fun trip. Amazing scenery and great friends on the trail.
Homeless Dude! 😂😂
Is the video driving the WRT clockwise or counter clockwise? Also can you tell me what time stamp hardscrabble starts and what time stamp the hog back starts? I’m driving it next week so I am watching your video for trail recon. Thanks.

I am looking to drive down there in September. It looks manageable in a rental up through the wash road to Barker going slow. Would you say that is true or one would have to have high clearance? If not, how far away would you suggest if I pulled off and hiked the rest of the way into Barker? Thanks.
Sorry for the late reply, had a Gmail problem. Not sure what kind of rental you would be bringing, but I would highly recommend something with some clearance in a four-wheel-drive.
You guys literally cracked me up you act like it’s an army maneuver I’ve been up that hill backwards in the Pathfinder
The second time we did it we covered our windows with news paper. Video out soon.
I did this trail with my 2wd ram 1500 a couple of years ago, was amazing! Looking forward to going again. Greetings from FL, great video!
Love this. Great driving great scenery. I’m going!
What size tires on the tacomas
Sorry for the late reply, I had a Gmail problem. I believe he has 36s on the Tacoma. Maybe 37, but he had a real good job done cutting out the wheel well.
What you saw in the sky is a satellite in the coming years you see more
Sorry for the late reply, I had a Gmail problem. What I saw was on the horizon and there was mountains behind it and satellites don’t move up and down and all around.😵💫
omg as we were long haul drivers we went thruogh that highway 2 a week for 5 yrs and heard many stories as well you all be very careful and it was hot lol
I'm no wimp. I have explored all of these places solo.
good
👍👍👍👍🇪🇸
Awesome vid and drive. Been a long time since I've seen Death Valley. I'm impress with the vid from your jeep. what kind of mount do you use. The stabilization is fantastic.
Sorry for the late reply, I had a Gmail problem. My GoPro is on 4K using an Arkon mount.
Awesome video!
Great video! We're planning a trip there in a few weeks, thanks for showing us some of what we're in for.
Have fun!
@@frankiemack8990 we had a blast.
What would happen, if you did not, not air down ?
Sorry for the late reply, I had a Gmail problem. You get a lot better traction since the tire has a bigger footprint and grips more, and if you’re fully aired up there’s a better chance you could get a puncture from a rock or another obstacle.
I had to LOL a little with the use of lockers when going up chicken rock. It definitely “feels” way worse than it is…. I have seen a full size dodge go down this trail. Once you see this it completely demoralizes the process…. 🤣😂
Sorry for the late reply, I had a Gmail problem. I was demoralized on half of the trip ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
W The Blues !!! 🎶🎸
Very nice video and beautiful places ! I also ride TJ !
i lived at ridgecrest and china lake for years.1960 to 1978 a few miles from there.
" My battery's dead again. Just died on me." Right. My friend, who's got a four door Rubicon, told me that Jeep stands for 'just expect electrical problems'. Been years since I've run the Mojave Road. I should do it again, soon. Good video, thanks.
what kind of radios is this group using?

Too much talk, to many people.
When I was in Ballarat back in the early 80's, the 41 Dodge truck wasn't even there?. In fact there was nobody living in Ballarat at all!. The store was just an empty shell full of garbage and junk!. The only vehicle that was in Ballarat at that time was a stripped 70-80's Chevy truck!.
if I had known about that Dodge truck being there at Ballarat I could’ve asked Charlie myself. But when I fed and watered him I had not been to Ballarat at all. Nor have I ever read any books or magazine articles about Charlie and his psychedelic followers I recall how appalled I was how Sharon Tate was murdered being pregnant. my working the security housing unit with such vile cruelty-absolute soulless creatures made me often think about just blowing their heads off with my 45, We used to sit and talk about it amongst us. there are truly times when instant elimination is called for in the world. I lived through those realizing professionally I could never do it as I just spoke about. we had to look at it as just a job and separate the job from the reality of civilized society and its expectations and rules to the game. One of the many reasons I had to stop attending my Sunday school adult class. I found myself enveloped in deep bitterness and anger over my two years in security housing unit - known as simply the SHU unit.
Did you need to reserve the cabins or is it first come first serve?
First come first serve. You raise an American flag to let others know it’s occupied.
Were they vehicle lights? There’s a place near Watersmeet, Mi where folklore says it’s alien lights. In reality it’s a distant road that allows headlights to appear to be hovering in the sky.
Good point, but clearly in the sky.
do you have a vid of those quick release air down parts ?
Paul, the price of the Stauns is crazy now! I paid around $40 10 years ago for mine. Here's what I have. Really don't need the Jaco's, but what the heck. a.co/d/hi1Xxum plus a.co/d/h6ap0cj
Can a Silverado 1500 make this or is it too big?
I saw a video of full size pickup doing Chicken Corner. Man, you’d have to have big clackers for that. The main thing is having front and rear lockers. At the minimum rear lockers.
Mule’s be better 😊
Wonder if my little 2.5L TJ with no lockers and a 2.5" lift could make that trip?
Yea you can make it but be careful.
I would not recommend it.
@@frankiemack8990 bigger lift? Or get lockers?
Thx Scott M fir taking us along with you informative and entertaining video Happy Holidays
Great trip. Did that a few years ago in MBZ sprinter 4wd. Love that part of CA
4:50 Does having the cabin look like someone lives there help with preventing vandalism, or do the volunteers have to continually repair them? Can those cabins be rented? 6:00 What radios do you use between trucks? 6:39 Sounds like you have two audio tracks on top of each other, depending on the software you use when you overlay tracks best to mute one. 9:00 Nice to see you guys using radios to spot, so many times I see videos and the spotter is trying to give directions while the driver is revving the engine or screeching tires and the driver has no clue what the spotter is saying. In my rig I have the old school Cobra 29 NW LTD Classic AM 40 channel CB, ICOM IC-F5023H VHF tuned to the most common Western Canada road channel frequencies, 2 hand held UHF Cobra ACXT54 FRS/GMRS and one Cobra CXT425 FRS/GMRS, I think I have the frequencies covered. 🤓😜 44:07 I can't even imagine what a miners lungs would have looked like after a few years mining that fine powder. 44:46 For those of you that don't think radios are important, this is one of the reasons radios are important. 46:08 Pretty good video, I like including radio chatter in my videos too but I don't always have audio running while driving. My wife just bought me a new dash camera for my birthday, I will have to see how that picks up audio.
Cabins kept up by volunteers and of course “leave it better than you found it”. Yes, I did use two audio tracks. When I first posted, audio was only on one side, reposted with two tracks. Glad you enjoyed the video!
I have had my 04 F350 service truck up and down mangle pass. love that area
Love the TJR's awesome video.
I like Charlies business card
yes, people from all over the world used to idolize Charlie. I was never one of them, whenever he tried his eye fucking with me through the steel cell door i used to respond with that ain’t gonna work with me so knock your shit off. for a while I used to be part of his security unit staff who fed watered and showered him. Believe me when I say, there were far more deadlier more notorious killers we had to deal with than he ever was. he was a total psycho a serious head case. and that my friends is all I remember I am 68 now.
@@garbinator09 Ha... thanks for your comment. I don't idolize the guy lol. Makes it sound like my house is covered in his posters when I only have 64.
I'm going this Saturday. Hopefully the weather doesn't get in the way.
Coordinates on stone cabin?
Great video, nice views, and good challenges on the mountains.👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
