    Hard part is the swelling comes back, from what I am understanding your turbinate's swell due to issue internally, what that is who knows. So you reduce their size and yes for years you get relief, then the original issue causes them to grow back again, then your starting over. I know because I am this person, I had sinus surgery and got 12 years peace, now I am swollen 24/7 again. Guess over the years irritation and allergy caused them to swell back to giant size. Now I am faced with living this way or doing another surgery. FUN

    I'm in Norway, and had this procedure done yesterday afternoon. My problem was only enlarged turbinates in both sides of the nose. The procedure itself was very much the same as you described, but the surgeon had to crack some part of the nasal bone (deep inside) during this procedure without using any extra tools. It was totally painless, but felt very violent, and I could hear the cracking sound, which was very unpleasant. I thought that this would later result in terrible pain after the anesthesia wore off. Fortunately, I was wrong. I feel no pain at all, and the nose bleeding stopped at around midnight when I went to bed. My "sleep" (not really) was just horrible as both nasal passages were obstructed, and I had to breathe through the mouth. I got up from bed after some 11-12 hours extremely tired and dizzy. I was used to nasal sprays to shrink the turbinates. This time, I guess that the air passage was swollen after the procedure, so I couldn't breathe through the nose, and was told not to use any nasal spray to breathe better, but only rinse the nose with saline solution. I guess that the swelling reduced in the early hours of this morning, so could breathe just a little bit through the nose. I could not go to work today, and will also have to take the day off tomorrow, as I feel extremely tired and can not function properly. Hopefully, it will get better in the next few days, and I will also get rid of my dependency on nasal sprays containing oxymetazoline hydrochloride or xylometazoline hydrochloride.

    • @andyr8812
      @andyr8812 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi everyone! It has been 1 1/2 week since the procedure, and I am feeling really well. I am now sleeping much better, and don't need any nasal spray that I was hooked on. My energy level during the day is also much better now as I used to be constantly tired before the procedure. To be able to breathe without problems is very important. I would definitely recommend this procedure as it is minimally invasive. I had no problems or side effects. For those who are CPAP users: Check the size of your turbinates with a specialist. This could be the root of your problem. In my case, I was recommended to use a CPAP machine some years ago because of sleep apnea. I couldn't sleep with that, and had to learn to sleep on my side instead of on my back. I see now that the doctors didn't realize that the whole problem was the enlarged turbinates. This is just a hint. You might suffer from central apnea (when the brain "forgets to breathe"), which is different from obstructive apnea (that was my case).

    I’m two weeks out of Deviated septum and turbinate reduction. No big deal, so if you’re thinking of it, don’t be afraid. The worst of it is the first few days when your throat is still a bit scratchy (less than a sore throat from a cold though) and you’re pretty stuffed up from drainage. Keep flushing it with saline the first week until the silicone splint is removed and then be amazed at all the air you’ll get! It makes me so angry that for 20 years I was given the “try this allergy spray” by at least 5 doctors. If your nose is clogged and it isn’t allergy season, insist that you see an ENT specialist. Honestly, surgery is not much worse than having a cold for about a week- don’t watch all the scary TH-cam videos where people can’t feel their teeth or whatever. From talking with friends who had the procedure, people with pain/issues are a rare minority. After my first night I didn’t even need Tylenol and never needed pain pills.

    Since so many of you have asked for a follow up, while I have not made any recent videos, I can put details in a comment here. It has been over 2 years since this procedure and the surgery was a complete success. I still have allergies, various times of the year are still more annoying and require more sinus cleaning (saline cleanse). But the original problem I was facing with constantly swollen turbinates was solved via this surgery. If I could speak to my younger self about this surgery I would tell myself to definitely have it done. I do understand though that everyone's experience will be different. A procedure could go poorly, a doctor could make a mistake, your situation could be different than mine, etc. But in my case, this was absolutely a good decision.

    I had this procedure this week. The local anesthetic didn't work. Horrific pain for 10 minutes solid, at one point he had to do because so much smoke was coming out my nose. I could feel him driving the probe though the skin into the turbinates and the burning on each one also. I'm terrified it might not have worked and have to go back again. I'm on day 4, no after effects except swelling very little pain now, but very traumatized

    • @wellroundedliving
      @wellroundedliving 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, that sounds like a horrible experience. While I had no pain during the procedure since the anesthetic did work, my turbinates were covered in scabs a few days after. Those scabs took over a month to heal and that's when the improvements were noticed. If you don't have scabs at all yet, you might want to reach back out to the doctor.

      The lack of a follow up video was simply because I stopped making videos. I have been very happy with the results and am still breathing easily years after this procedure. I will say however that since the procedure I now understand what's going on inside my nose much better, so I am more effective with the use of saline spray, Neti pot, allergy meds, etc. Combining the two means I have far fewer breathing issues now than I did pre-surgery.

    First day sucked! Everyone says they felt nothing! lol I felt like a rebar was being shoved into my nose. After My nose dripped like a leaky faucet all day after the procedure. About bed time it slowed down enough that i could sleep and not drown in snotty blood. day 2 Left side opened up real good right side is still stuffed up.

    My experience was HORRIBLE! The numbing didn't work and I felt everything! It was the most painful 45 minutes of my life! All they did was give me a nerf ball to squeeze kept saying you're doing great while I was crying, moaning and sobbing, as I squeezed the hell out of the ball. Very traumatizing! 😞

      Yes so I’ve read studies and the best estimate according to dr houser is 20% occurrence rate from fully removing turbinate. So, you can imagine that any conservative submucosal technique will have a much lower incidence of ens. However, the risk is not 0 and ens is not the only complication.

    Just had this same surgery. The first night was bad as I couldn’t breath through my nose and had frequent sleep disturbances. Similar to how it was before surgery. Started to use a humidifier and nasal decongestant spray and things are much better. Able to breath through both nostrils fully for the first time in years!

    I am after the surgery, its been 3 days. 1st day I had blocked nose just like when off Afrin. Just stuffed 100%. the night was horrible. Next day it was better, but still bad. 3rd day nothing has changed. And I am worried it will not work. I was addicted to afrin style of sprays for more then a 10 years. 2 months ago, I stopped using the spray, after 10, 11 years! everyone said it will be okay just need to survive for a week without spray and nose will get to normal. No it didnt happen. I mean I wasng using stuff for 2 months, but nights were bad, during the day, it was bearable. But cannot live like that anymore, went to a doctor and get turbinoplasty. Here I am 3 days after, wishing it will fucking work because I just jump from a windows if it won't. I've had fucking enough. I need to fucking breathe or else I go mental.
