It is very interesting to see how the options change over time. As I see these premium costs rise, I begin to question if anyone is focused on controlling costs in the correct areas. I'm not sure that a government subsidy is the correct solution, I think elimintating the bloat within the system (insurance providers making money, sales people making money, under the table deals for middle men to make money) is what's really needed. There's no reason why US premiums should be so high (subsidized or not) while those same premiums are so much cheaper in other countries OR why the same prescription can cost much more at the same pharmacy using your insurance copay vs using a GoodRX discount. While I'm all for subsidies, I think this trend will continue until these real problems are tackled.
