It takes tracking the measurements of the case head and case web. Please do plenty of research. These practices will give you the nickname leftie at best.

    Hogen Hi-shore? I hit my 10mm power limit when I used 135g Nosler JHP’s, Double Tap cases, CCI 350 LP MAGNUM primers and Alliant Power Pistol propellant. I worked this combination up to an average velocity of 1780 fps. At .1 grain above that, I was getting some primer flattening, so I backed down .1 which showed no signs of over pressure so I settled on that as my max 135g/Power Pistol load. Pretty stout stuff reaching the lower level of rifle power out of a 6” ported barrel in a Glock 20.

  • @HollidaySpessa
    @HollidaySpessa ปีที่แล้ว

    think you overcharged this quite dramatically (relatively) using longshot as a substitute (they have nearly the same grainage ratio in loads according to hodgdon's site) yours was probably around 12-12.5 and looking at 55-60k psi. pretty wild, the strength of 40 super!

    • @letstalkcaliber704
      @letstalkcaliber704 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what 12-12.5 was referring too? Can you link to what you were looking at. It's hard to really determine pressure without equipment but looking at hodgdonreloading.com they list 9.8 gr of 800x at 30k psi with a 155gr xtp. My load was 10.8 gr. Max saami pressure in 37,500 psi. So not really sure if I'm hitting that or if I'm over but the cases are taking the pressure. If I continue to increase the powder load you should see the velocities drop slightly as the case starts to rupture and deform. Then if I don't notice that and keep going you'd see case failure. So since I'm not having too crazy of pressure signs I think I'm not to far past max pressure if not under it. Then again there's guys shooting 9mm major out of standard 9mms and nothing is blowing up and that's like 44k psi so who really knows.

    • @HollidaySpessa
      @HollidaySpessa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@letstalkcaliber704 i'm using QUICKLOAD to try to determine what the PSI could have been with a similar powder to 800x since quickload doesn't have it. i used longshot because it has a similar ratio of powder:fps according to hodgdon (their longshot loads on their site are all fucked up, ignore them!) i think it's probably pretty over pressure, but that many cases can handle it. i load 7.62x38r for my nagant m1895 and load 3-4x over SAAMI spec without any significant case bulging to date, even in my super overpressured round (eq. to 500 ftlb LMAO oops!!) that locked up the entire action and required me to use a hammer and mosin nagant cleaning rod to unstick it (saami spec for 7.62x38r isn't public, but since fiocchi and ppu both load the same fps and grainage it can be assumed SAAMI is around 11k, therefore cases designed for 11k) it's just a guess, but i think it's pretty overpressure. i load 10 with longshot, i've gotten to 10 as hodgdon for 180gr xtp suggested that at max and i started to see less gain, but 10gr longshot is pretty overpressure. yours could be only marginally overpressure, i'm not a scientist but that load is approaching ".40 super" levels of hot and the PSI for 40 super is significantly higher than 10. the point being, it's almost certainly overpressure. if quickload had 800x it'd be easy for us plebs to confirm, but ol boy never added it :(... as well, you have an aftermarket barrel which probably makes it a lot more tolerable vs commercial glock barrels which are notoriously bad for reloads. just a guess! i don't know, could be wrong but i jus want ppl to be safe :D

    So basically just use a .40 with ball ammo if you need to put down something big.

    • @letstalkcaliber704
      @letstalkcaliber704 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well if you were going to shoot an elephant it be good to have that penetration and the 40 ball round does that better than the 10mm hp's but you could just as well use a 10mm ball round and be even more effective. Generally if we're not getting over the 2100 fps needed to cause hydrostatic shock you want to choose something that expands the most while still penetrating deeply enough. In that same line of thought some folks recommend ball rounds in 380 for self defense because of its weak penetration.
