Here's my take the thok is good and shouldn't be removed, but the new abilities should be added as well but should be attached to the spin button if they're added instead of replacing the thok

What i liked about the thok is how it was here when i needed it, while still fully appreciating the level design of the game I am one of the dumbass who picked solo sonic first, and i got the consequences of my actions for SURE, i barely used the thok, but when i needed it, it was there for me. Even if i didn't use the tool much compared to knuckles and tails flight, it did not need to be used often, it just needs to be there, what's important is that i have it if i ever want to.

There's also a lot of unchecked arrogance and bullying that goes on in that community. Try starting a discussion in something more than memes or glazing and people will ignore you or respond with unnecessary salt. It's like being walled in with unhinged kids and power tripping psychos.

The first time I played SRB2 was around the late 2000s or very early 2010s. I remember the MB always being a shit-show, but what hooked me in was the good mods, interesting design concepts, and amicable community during netgames. Now, that all changed with the release of 2.2. Lots of underage (under 13) children with no manners, respect for mod creators or their fellow gamers, are flooding the community en masse. The only adults hanging on were these strange, hyper-authoritarian types who'd love banning you on the fly (yes, even in their server) or who get a sick power trip over admonishing you in front of others. There's a weird cult of personality going on which just gives me the ick. Like, for example, if there's a personality that's good at BattleMod then everyone's going to worship him while treating you like the peasant. What really gets me is how criticism of the game or any popular mod is unaccepted in any way, creating a huge echo-chamber. The community is very unpleasant, edgy, really immature, and almost impossible to have a fair discussion with (they seem to only talk in memes for some reason?). Plus, it does not help that a lot of new mods are low quality and the passion is clearly lacking from most of the mod creators.

I'm always fascinated by videos like this, coming across them as an outsider. "The SRB2 community is going apesh*t? It has drama?" You guys might want to get away from that stuff (whatever it is); I now want to find out what SRB2 people could possibly be beefing about.

People saying skill issues guess what? Jumping in a game is already a skill to learn. Jumping is a controller action that has to be precise. And it's like SRB2 demands you over actually doing precise as heck stuff, while having a beautiful move than in the most tense shaky moments can complete f you and send you plummeting to the void. And what I see we get. For new gameplay... And agile no arbitrary speed focused multi move for may I say a really agile character and dude for god sake is the f drop dash. The best most simple solution or addition for Sonic The Hedgehog because Sonic Spinsball and he is cool. Sonic has to be the main priority it's "Sonic Robo Blast 2". How rooted people can think the thok is enough for our beloved amazing character?!

I’m gonna be real when I say my experience with this community is basically zero, aside from a few posts made here and there on the forums. So hearing you vent about how toxic everyone has been is surprising, aside from what I already knew with what you said with the dev team bizarre stance with the thok and their weird insistence on music mods not being allowed (something that any other modding community won’t give a fuck about lmao) If anything though, this all makes me glad that I’m not in the community at all. I’ve only really cared about TH-camrs like SRB2Dude and playing the game. Maybe some mods here and there but that’s really it. I can say it sucks to hear all the shit that has happen to you though , and I certainly hope you’re doing better now.

We mobile players on srb2 are definitely not getting the 2.3 Update, They gave up on working on the mobile updates, lmao.

I wish i could say speaking up does somemthing but these guys run everything now. You cant enjoy anything unless you belong to their group. Its the way of the world now unfortunately.

I actually started playing SRB2 about 2 weeks ago (after seeing it on media countless times), i see the thok as something like an instant speed boost tool, aside from that i've also seen speedrunners/pro utilize the thok very wisely, i'm on the side of keeping the thok.

In regards to what you said about the thok replacement alienating a good brunt of the SRB2 community and making them stick to 2.2, I wouldn't be surprised if, should that happen, that people mod in their own versions of Dark City Zone and whatever remaining levels to fit 2.2 if/when those levels release.

Urgh, really does suck to get into SRB2 when all this annoying crap about removing the Speed Thok is happening. I freaking did my first playthrough of the game _as Sonic,_ got through just fine, and got ALL the Chaos Emeralds, and while I certainly needed to get a feel for the Thok, it worked just fine for me once I did. So with that in mind, to everyone bitching and complaining about the Thok and how it should be removed... _skill issue and git gud :/_

As someone who has wanted to get into making srb2 content, both in terms of the game and video form content surrounding the game, this is an immensely helpful perspective to have. I am not sure whether I'd ever like to interact with community outside of help or passing comments I'd get on videos and I think I'll refuse any contact anywhere on the topic matter outside of friend groups and the like. Thank you for all the content, opinions, and cornball jokes you've made and I'm so sorry that the game that I love has such a toxic community that I wasn't even aware about.

Dude, imagine trying to think you're cookong making a sociopolitical critique in the form of a sonic the hedgehog fangame mod, its like the guy that tried to emulate dementia in a map, trying to pull this while your are jumping with a cute little blue cartoon hedgehog and his even cuter fox sidekick following him behind (But tbf being a sonic fan causes a similar if not worse effect than dementia, from my own experience as a sonic fan, so I can kinda get behind that)

I'm kinda suprised nobody gets Metallic City. If you go out of your way to look around the city and explore, you'll find MUCH MUCH more than you expect. It's filled with Easter Eggs and platforming sequences. And when you're done, you go through the tunnel which completes the level. Sure, it's definitely not what I and many others want from an SRB2 level. But it really stands out in a different way, good or not.

Shin Ultraman really got me into the series lately. Ultra Q is a fascinating little thing even if it's very outside of the realm of Ultraman, but the original show is an absolute charmer. Shubaraya was a master of his craft despite the budgets. Glad to see you branching out from SRB2, much as I loved it

I think you'll be back when the game finally decides to be finished. I agree with the community with the community being shitty. They're stubborn and all about themselves. The community been downhill since the owner of the game left and some of the top dogs been banned with their allegations. Much as I want to play the game again, it just haven't been easy. Our feelings and criticisms won't change anything. The team are not for not paid for the development of the game or to care about what anyone has to say and I learned that since 2005.

while i disagreed with alot of your previous arguments about the thok (a little harshly too, to be honest) i completely see where you are coming from with everything in this video. i myself dont really do too much with the community, apart from host netgames and talk to a few small modders, but the few people i have interacted with in discord servers (not any modders they are cool people) can be unbearable sometimes, every point you say in this video about general people i can agree with, and it is probably worse in the official discord too (although i never talk there, so i cant confirm) to the point where i just left every srb2 related server im in simply because the community is hell sometimes.

For me the game was ruined when the guitar riff was removed from the game
