Monnow Bridge Chub Challange
You join us in September on the lovely river Monnow in Monmouth fishing for chub right next to Monnow Bridge, which is the only remaining fortified river bridge in Great Britain! The pool below the bridge has been a tough spot for me in the past. I have regularly managed to get bites and hook fish, but the area close to the bridge can be snaggy. We tackle the fish late in the afternoon and into the evening. The question is "Do I succeed in landing a fish this time?".

Last of the Summer Chub
มุมมอง 2884 หลายเดือนก่อน
You join us in August on the lovely river Monnow near Monmouth fishing for chub. My tactics are pellet pate and damped pellets in a small swimfeeder. Unfortunately, the river is low and clear and the skies are bright. Still, I am confident of a bite or two... but what about a fish? #fishing #angling #river #chub #chubfishing #bait #monnow #wales
Stillwater Roach on Sweetcorn and Hemp
มุมมอง 1.4K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
You join us on a wet July afternoon fishing for roach on Lliswerry Pond, Newport, South Wales. The method is waggler fishing in margins with sweetcorn on the hook and hemp fed generously. In the warmer months, this can be a great method of getting through to the better roach. Lliswerry Pond run by Angling Watch UK is a green gem sat in the middle of an urban environment! At the time of filming,...
Opening Day Chub 2024
มุมมอง 2336 หลายเดือนก่อน
June 16th is the first day of the river fishing season in the UK. So, we decided to spend a couple of hours on the Monnow near where it enters the Wye. The method was roving with a loaf of liquidised bread, a loaf of mashed bread, and a loaf for the hook. The chub on film fell for crust presented on a small feeder full of mashed bread. We were not planning to film at all, but decided at the las...
An evening on Lliswerry Pond: Tench fishing
มุมมอง 1.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
A fantastic evening session using the method feeder on the best tench water in South Wales. Lliswerry Pond run by Angling Watch UK is a green gem sat in the middle of an urban environment! It is a fantastic pond for many species, including carp, roach, rudd, bream, and, of course, tench. Angling Watch groups/1303575636640282 Particles supplied by Byte Timebaits profile...
Back at wot he does best rubbing it in catching beauty there
Angling as always andrew corker of a chub mate keep it up mate ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks 👍
Nice fat chub that eh mate
Hi Andrew , Really enjoy your videos , Do you ever fish the MDA stretch further up the Monnow if so is it any good , And what tackle do you use many thanks Mike H
Hi Michael, I have not fished that stretch. I know about it, but have never fished it? For the chub I use a 1.25TC Avon/quiver rod and pair that with a medium baitrunner and 6lb line. I don't always engage the baitrunner as there are snags. Hooks I like a size 10.
Hi Andrew, you should try Kraft cheese slices rolled into a big ball, not the cheap slices as they are too soft & gooey. Break a piece off and mould it round a size 6 or 8 hook in the shape of an Arlsey bomb. It keeps for ages just wrapped in clingfilm & the smell improves with age.
Thanks, I might give that a go.
I know exactly the spot 🤣 a love that area 👍. Nice vid Doc, carry on 👍👌.
Is that stretch of the monnow free to fish with no angling clubs owning it?
Yes, that small stretch is not controlled by any clubs. There are only a handful of places there that one can safely fish from and it is better when the water is high.
Nice tench What reels are you using please
Sonik Xtractor.
Nice video I'm going to give that stretch a go in a couple of weeks the tough is fishing really slow at the moment👍
It can be very difficult there. It usually fishes better after some rain and the water is up and coloured.
Anything other than float fishing for tench,is surly the wrong approach..I myselfe cringe, at the thought of feeder fishing for them, yet , I’m a traditionalist, always will be, and float is the method to suit.
Each to their own. I find feeder effective and I enjoy it. Float fishing can be difficult on this pond when the wind picks up.
Nice one mate, have just found your channel and have subscribed, tite lines mate
Cheers Paul.
how neat, that's a cracking roach
كاين اخويا❤❤❤
Is that Monmouth angling club water didn't think you could fish downstream of monmouth bridge till after the salmon season ..used to fish it as a kid,
You can fish up to where the Monnow enters the Wye, but not in the Wye. There is a confusing sign put up that refers to the Wye saying no fishing etc.
Great thanks I'll have to give it a go,👍
Your obviously a master baiter 🎣
Lovely lovely.. 🌊☀️💪🦈
Thanks! I hope you enjoyed it and found it interesting. I gave away almost all of my secrets 🤣
20 odd years ago i saw 2 salmon the male fish was about 16lbs and the hen fish about 12 lbs spawning under a small bridge on that feeder just below the water intake from the taff (blackweir)they had cut a red under there,i think they couldnt get into the river due ti a grid there.
People tell me that salmon were seen there a couple of years ago.
Hi As you say the feeder tends to fish better after a good flood with depth and colour I have caught a few chub when spinning for pike and perch Great video
@@PaulFrancis-bj6vpI am glad you enjoyed the video
I have never targeted chub or barbel .....and they are in there too ......but caught most coarse fish in there by a stick float These days I prefer pike and perch and trout spinning , had small trout out of the feeder Taff itself is worth a try
@@PaulFrancis-bj6vp I might give the Taff a go, it is on my radar.
Well done
Nice video and some lovely chub! :)
Cheers.
gread finshing very good video
Thank you 👍
Maybe a bit hard on yourself, mate! Accidental capture and release of out of season fish is not illegal. Assuming you moved on or changed tactics to avoid the trout after a couple, it's fine in a mixed fishery 😊
I know, just a controversial title for views lol
Well done Andrew, great video, very professional delivery and production! Chub are a great winter quarry, and good for utube interest! Very informative and intuitive approach, especially the pellet/paste idea. I'm fishing on the wye in this area at the end of July, so I'll probably take a look at this spot! Last time i passed through Monmouth it was a trickle! Good luck with the channel, just subbed! 👍👍👍
The best time to catching them is in the morning just after rain, the rain wash the worms out of the banks of the river
Бббблллииииннннн когда хоть лето)))
Very nice that bigger grayling. Informative video too. Thanks
Thanks. I am glad you liked the video

Up stream is an established method in the right conditions and swim. You get nice drop back bites.
Great video! New subscriber here.
Thanks for the subscription!
Really good point about resting the fish, grayling are very fragile and cannot take much handling out of the water
Fish care is priority 😊
Gordon ramsey of the fishing world
Less swearing though 😂
Well done video. Good photography and music that is not overbearing.
Thank you. I hope it was informative and entertaining.
Fantastic video Andrew . Brilliant looking forward to your future videos well done
Very interesting Andrew, good solid explanation!
Great explanation Andrew well done and your results says it all
How often have tou used it andrew and
I used it a lot in the Spring of last year but with casters. It worked really well early season, but as the water warmed up the "Method" really took over.
