    Hi - At 15:36 looking at the trigger and trigger connector glued and screwed together. Is their a small lip just below the trigger connector and the top of the trigger? While looking at the trigger at 15 minutes and 36 seconds, if you look top left as you are holding it, it there a very small lip where the connector is joined to the trigger, I noticed a small lip which can be felt with a fingernail. Just checking as I did not notice the lip pre-gluing and wanted to check the trigger connector is not sat too far back because of glue. I used a small amount of epoxy which squeezed out, but wanted to check. Thanks

      UPDATE: I read in an earlier comment about possible use of glue alone! Please read below. Following a 24-hour curing period, the necessary drill bits and 2mm taps arrived. Sourcing imperial-sized tools in the UK is challenging since the UK 'regressed' into decimalisation (metric). I miss imperial. The trigger I have to modify differs slightly from the one shown in the reference video, with the trigger connector being wider than the trigger body. During the initial drilling through the hole in the trigger connector, to establish a centre guide in the trigger body, for the smaller drill, the trigger body separated from the trigger connector. The trigger connector being wider than the trigger body, meant the pillar drill clamp was only securing the trigger connector, at the sides the trigger body was held only by the glue. I suspect the trigger is case hardened, as it took some initial force to make a mark, which likely contributed to the separation. (The later 2mm drill cut through it like butter). Despite the setback, the centre mark was sufficient to guide the smaller drill for the tapping process. The threads were then drilled and cut without the trigger connector attached. TIP: For thread cutting with very small taps, leave the drilled trigger in the pillar drill clamp and swap the drill bit for the tap. Utilise the chuck of the pillar drill to hold the tap, release the pillar drill return spring, the chuck no longer returns upwards, allowing a little gravity to push the tap down. Manually turning the chuck by hand ensures the tap stays central and reduces the risk of breakage, plenty of oil and keep backing out after several turns to clear the crud, it worked perfectly. After cleaning the trigger and preparing the mating surfaces with a much rougher Dremel grinding bit this time, (and re-checking the bolt could be screwed in easily) I re-glued. Then used a 2.0mm 0.4 stainless slotted, flat head bolt immediately after the re-gluing, making sure the trigger connector sat centrally along the trigger body. This also glued the bolt in place. Bonus - The shallow flat head eliminated the need for grinding the top of the bolt. Bonus 2 - there was no bulge in the trigger body. Why did I use a stainless bolt, no big deal, I chose a stainless bolt as mild steel and alloy can react and corrode. The main takeaway, feel free to ignore my ramblings (Above 😃) but never use glue only, if the two components eventually separate the flaking glue might cause the very thing you are trying to fix! Stick to AKBAKWUDS' process. 👍

    A pleasure to watch and informative. I have a similar vintage r700, a series. The sear screw is not making any difference...I adjust it and the Sears don't move . I'll double check. (Since found that on my model there is a "grub lock screw" rhat needs to be removed so you can get to the adjustment screw on both the pull and sear adjustment). I'm guessing a complete disassembly and clean might be in order...perhaps some gum or varnish from old lubricant etc is present ..or general gunk. I like the epoxy on the connector...I'll ponder that. Drill and tap may be excessive...but...good assurance. Lock tite red seems very confidence making...for keeping adjustments...but I wonder if you could adjust more later ..no judgement. Wishing you had a complete disassembly video at this stage. Was wondering if you were going to stone and polish the Sears too....ha. Many thanks Keep well. And thanks again.

      The rifle needs to be disassembled by turning the action tube. There are holes on the action tube where a properly fitting punch or philips screwdriver shank can be used to turn tube. After tube is turned loose, barrel and forearm assembly is pulled forward out of receiver. Then action tube is pulled rearward out of forearm, and o-ring can be replaced. Seems to be a popular opinion that everybody is just a little different in how they make their "scrapple". I haven't made it but saw a few other videos and it was basically the same thing but like you said some separate the meat, I believe the one guy added it back in after the cornmeal and flour and you could see the meat in it but everybody used the bones and trimmings for it so, it makes perfect sense. I use the backs (hips and spine) from chicken to make soup so I don't waste it and you get an extra meal out of a chicken, so it's the same principle here is the same except I don't have a pig to butcher, Hagias and many other dishes are very similar there are always people who wouldn't eat it! They probably have eaten worse in a Hotdog or sausage and just didn't know. Thanks for the excellent video of the process!

So, the buttplates may be interchangable. Thanks for going into depth on this - the first video was really helpful but I had these exact questions. Is there an aftermarket source for old-school safeties that lock the bolt? I nodded along with the safety explanation intitially, but you're right - I always have to check that the bolt is seated. It's ingrained from hunting with the 700 a few times, and that's in relatively open hardwood forest. Now I want to lock it down although I had "adapted" to that shortcoming without thinking much about it. Edit: Those clips are called "Circlips" as far as I know.

    • @AKBAKWUDS
      @AKBAKWUDS 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ultra light arms used to sell a bolt locking safety for the 700. I just buy older Remington safeties on Gunbroker or Ebay. Keep in mind, the later production (approximately 1997 to current) 700s are no longer machined to accept the bolt locking safety. They can be machined to use the older safety though. From 1982 when the bolt locking safety was deleted up till the mid 90s, the bolts and receivers were still machined to accept them. Late production 700s will require machining in addition to the older safety. Another option would be a 3 position safety on the bolt (model 70 type).

Tap for a 3/56 screw, head at connector end. Cut off the excess thread and file/sand smooth, then file the slotted head down to the bottom of the cross slot. Then remove the tip off the over travel screw. The threaded part of the over travel screw presses against the head of the screw that was threaded into the connector and trigger.
