G.F. Handel "ALLEGRO IN F" (Abrsm grade 4 2023-24)
Check out my rendition of Handel's "Allegro in F HWV 488," featured in the ABRSM Grade 4 2023-24 syllabus (A3). Styled like a "corrente" and possibly composed in 1717, this piece challenged me with its rapid semi-quavers. After much practice, I believe I've managed to play them smoothly and accurately.
This was the piece I chose for section A of my exam, where I earned a 29/30 in June 2023. Not perfect, but I was quite pleased with the result!
Enjoy the performance!

Check out my performance of "Worrisome Blues" from Martha Mier's 'Jazz, Rags & Blues Book 3', part of the ABRSM grade 4 2023-24 syllabus (C6 in the piece list). This slow blues in E minor is one of the three pieces I played for my exam, scoring a perfect 30/30 🤩 In the exam report, the examiners noted: "The tempo was aptly slow and gentle. #bartok Presenting the final piece of Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos Volume 3, akin to a two-part invention built on rhythmic somersaults. Its German title, "Holpriger Weg" (approx. The duration listed in the book is 45 seconds, and I believe I've hit the mark quite well :-D Bartók's Mikrokosmos spans six volumes, comprising 153 piano pieces created bet...

My rendition of "Billy's Song" by Valerie Capers (1804-1875), from the ABRSM Grade 4 booklet (B:1) for the years 2023 & 2024. This touching ballad is a heartfelt tribute to Billie Holiday, an incredible jazz singer whose music was shaped by her life's ups and downs, so to speak. In this piece the composer has probably tried to capture the warmth and intensity that characterized Holiday's unforg...

#bartok My take of "Broken Chords", exercise n.85 from Béla Bartók's renown Mikrokosmos. This piece was a challenge to me because you have to transition from one hand to the other as smoothly as possible... making it sound as if you were playing the arpeggios with only one hand! Bartók's Mikrokosmos offer six volumes with 153 piano pieces. They were written between 1926 and 1939 and range from ...

    If there's one piece of advice I can give you, it's: make linked pairs during sixteenth notes, otherwise it risks sounding too flat! Moreover, if this piece is played slowly,you have to be able to exploit the beauty of the sentences, and not just play them as they are written, don't forget that we are in a baroque piece! Congratulation for your play!

      Thank you. What is tricky (and funny, in a way) about classical music is that you think you've played with the right intention, phrasing, dynamics etc.... but nothing of this reaches the listener 😅 I guess it's part of the game... Baroque is probably my favorite period ever, musically speaking. Thanks for passing by and taking the time to listen to this piece and articulate your comment. Best!

      Thank you very much. Listening to it almost 2 years later I had the same impression too... At the same time, what is peculiar about this piece (and probably about every 2-part inventions) is that every speed you choose will reveal different details. If you play it slow, you will grasp the beautiful melodic movements, if you speed it up you will hear more harmonic effects that are created by overlapping the two voices. If you play it slow, this sounds "on the top" will not emerge so clearly... That's why I wanted to experiment :-D

    • @philmann3476
      @philmann3476 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. Ultimately the goal is to make music worth listening to, not to show off the equivalent of keyboard gymnastic skills. If speed is the only goal, you can program computers to "play" any piece ever written far faster than any human ever will. (BTW, enjoyed this very much. Well done.)

      To mind it is far to slow. It is obvious that the technique is not sufficient to play faster. No pianist would play it at this rythm.

      Yes, it's definitely tricky! Play it super slowly and then from time to time, double the speed... and then go back to super slow. This process will help you more than increasing the metronome speed bit by bit. Just try and let me now. In any case, it takes time and patience :-D
