On my channel I offer Webflow/wordpress tutorials as well as general advice on how to make money online and how to start a web design and development business as a freelancer.
I currently run a digital agency based in the UK called Lighthouse and have recently created an online course called Webflow Mastery.
Webflow is my web tool of choice but I regularly use WordPress also and aim to help anyone wishing to learn either tool in order to create professional websites.

Why don't you use the client-first? :)
Hey Sam, maybe a bit off topic, but since you're competing with WP in this video.. What are your thoughts on Divhunt as a possible upcoming Webflow competitor?
Hey dude, it’s a very interesting tool I’m keeping an eye on because it does a lot of things I wish Webflow allowed us to do.
Thank you for a good point❤
Hey Sam, really nice channel I recently found you and I've been binge-watching your videos. I have a question for you if you have the time it would really help. If I'm just starting out as a freelance web designer in a third world country looking to work with clients from foreign first world countries, do you think it's a good idea to first offer my work for free or for a very low price just to get my foot in the game? By very low I mean like sub-100$ per week or so. Again, thank you for the awesome videos!
Thanks dude! I think if you’re just starting out it’s definitely a good idea to start with small projects until you’re more confident. When I first started out I used a platform called Freelancer which is a kind of job board. There aren’t always huge paying jobs on there but it’s a perfectly decent way to start. Good luck on your new business 👍🏻
@@sam-harrison Thanks! 🙏
@@sam-harrison keep up the good videos
Hey Sam you had a webflow course that I purchased last year. I've been really busy with my personal life however, I noticed I can't access the website anymore and you promised to bring an update to the course after Webflow conference which I was waiting for. What happened? Could you please refresh me
Hello! If you head over to www.lighthousedigital.co.uk/ you’ll see an option to log in 👍🏻 and he’s the refresh is still coming I promise. Don’t have an exact date but no later than January.
So you spent £1,500 just to achieve £2,000 in sales? and you also need to spend time to build those websites? Doesn't sound like a good strategy to me.
No, my average project cost is between £8k to £10k. I said the absolute minimum you’d want to be charging in general, is £2000 before considering any money in google ads. That £1500 mentioned in the video ended up in 3 client projects.
@@sam-harrison Thanks for clarifying it. Do you think generating total income that are at least 8 to 10 times of the ads expenses would be a good start?
This is great! I know that a lot of people love the quirky, goofy humor that Webflow adds to their tutorials, but I find it pretty annoying. Especially because I feel like they tend to only cover the most basic overview of topics. So it feels like the jokes just take up time that would be better spent really going just a LITTLE BIT deeper as you have!
Love this! Do you have a cloneable project for this with the code included? Thank you ❤
Great bit of info
I'm sold sir, Webflow is the right choice for me! 🙌
Ha hey dude! 👋
Both has 3rd party plugins 😂😊
Note the date this video was published 😉 also Webflow doesn’t rely on plugins/apps the same way the average Wordpress user needs to. ACF, security, animations, page builder etc. All core features in Webflow. There’s a difference.
@@sam-harrison What about seoflow plugin from @PaytonClarksmith ?
@@sam-harrison I know your webflow course on udemy.
Thanks for this video. I am new to Webflow and couldn't quite get the multi-reference field to work, but your video explains it perfectly!
Hey Sam, how is your new Webflow course coming along ?
Hey Tim! Long story but it's still coming. No concrete date yet but it's definitely still happening 👍
Nice job Sam, nice and simple!!!!
Thanks Lloyd!
Great job Sam 👍
Thanks Jamie!
thank you sir for this video , So, I will specialize in providing landing page and sales funnel design as a service for clients . What is the building tool that you recommend with your extensive experience? Is it wordpress, framer, webflow, or other?
My pleasure 👍🏻 and for that use case, you can’t go wrong with any of those three. But Webflow and Framer are probably a little faster to get things set up.
@@sam-harrison thank you
What i really don't understand: how can so many people complain about the price? I mean, if you don't have 16$ per month as a freelancer, you should consider doing something else that brings you money. If your clients don't have 29$ per month you should not consider them as clients, as they will only bring you problems.
but in the workspace plans, e.g. the freelancer plan: how many pages can one site have? unlimited?
Where can I get your blueprint code from?
Really hard to follow your walk-through. You didn't actually create it, you just waived your cursor around and didn't show how to fill in the fields, etc.
I do show in the video how to add a text field in the cms which you simply add your page title and meta description options and then you choose that field within the blog template settings. 🤷🏻
What is the point of paying for a Workspace plan if each customer can have a Webflow account? If you pay a Workspace plan because you are doing websites for many customers you also need to pay for hosting for each website. So instead of doing that, you can create a Webflow account for each customer and you pay for a Site plan that also considers Hosting. Is that correct?
Clients should always have control over their site so their own hosting plan is always ideal. As a regular developer of Webflow sites you will find it useful having at least a freelancer workspace plan which allows you to retain control over the site until you’re ready to transfer to the client. Also a workspace plan for you the developer is useful since it allows you a number of cloned projects.
Thank you. As always, your explanations arbout web design are always straitforward and much more clear than others web designers than I can watch on YuuTube.
Thank you for this, Sam! I'm trying to figure out how to use this technique with unique blog layouts, without Webflow trying to front load all of the content for each of the blogs. Someone recommended Visibility properties within components? But is this another option?
My pleasure! And yes you can use the visibility controls or the conditions options for occasional sections 👍🏻
Sam, What do we do about covering ourselves insurance wise if we are already retired but want to do a bit of freelancing? John
Great video! Keep going, Sam, TH-cam will appreaciate the value you give to your audience:) Cheers!
Thank you ☺️
Thanks for the video boss....found the video helpful
So after I transfer the site to the client, they'll need to then purchase a hosting plan to publish the site - so far so good. But now, what do they see? Can they not manage/update their site's content via the designer since they don't have a workspace plan? It'd be really helpful to see a walkthrough of the transfer process from both POV's - the developer & client. I'm familiar with workspace only, as that's I have, but I don't fully understand the hosting-only option. Like, what if my client has multiple sites?
They don’t need a workspace plan other than the basic free one that comes with it. They have access to the designer with a hosting plan. They can also add you as a guest so you can access their workspace. That’s on the assumption you at least have a freelancer plan which is likely if you’re regularly using Webflow.
You’re a life saver!!! That’s exactly what I needed for my new template
Hey they released lots of updates can you make a new video about ycode?
I am a PHP Developer and would like to know if it's easy to use PHP in WebFlow?
Thanks
How much does cost if I need an official email?
I must be missing something, if we want this amount of freedom to make components that different between each other, why make them components in the first place?
Perfect thumbnail
Yes found this quite interesting especially about pricing and contracts great communicator
how can we control the transition of open dropdown? like when i hover on my dropdown so menu comes up so quickly so i want to control it, please help.
Uh saved me from headache,
Unfortunately, I don't understand the point of the "Game Changer " in your title, 90% of the video was about components and never demonstrated 1 advantage of using slots, you never even show 1 real use case where it's really speed up your flow or something
It helps a lot if you design something and someone less tech savvy on your team or a client needs a bunch of premade options, which they can just drag and drop. There is a Build mode where they can do just this, but not change styles and design settings.
good video.
Thoughts on Wix Studios?
Hi nice video. how much was your cost per lead with google ads and how many of them converted? Thanks
Downside of classes is that client might decide to Clear unused styles, that will break every component based on this. Unless component stored somewhere dismembered with all additional classes applied. Nevertheless I use classes more over attributes, since it's more native.
I like to include the classes within a style guide page so that they are safe from being accidentally cleared 👍🏻
question: If I have the AGENCY plan with my agency, but beside the clients sites I want to run 2 own websites for myself: Do I need then 2 site plans? or are there any site plans "included" in the agency plan?
Hi Sam, could you do a video on Oxygen Builder soon? Thanks in advance!
Really useful video!
Yes would see to see more detail on your projects as you mentioned :)
Very useful thanks!
So many hidden tricks in webflow. Interesting now 😊. Thanks for sharing this amazing tips and tricks
Very good overview - love it! But can't see a huge benefit using slots 🤨
Thank you! It seems lots of people feel the same so I’ll do another video explaining why I think they’re useful 👍🏻
