Hi, I've been doing your yoga for osteoporosis videos for a couple of years. Starting with video 1, moving to number 2 and then number 3 for some time. I've just had my 2 yearly dexa and have worsened slightly in my spine but have maintained in my hip. I consider this a good result for my hip. I'm adding some resistance training to my routine, specifically for my spine. Thank you for your videos, I particularly like that you constantly remind us how to hold the poses. It's very helpful. Diane (UK).
Glad I found this video today!
I’m glad you you found this video too. Hopefully you will try some of my other videos. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment 💛
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I cannot do theses exercises as I cannot lie on a mat, too much pain getting up. B
I understand. You have given me a good idea to make a video for sciatica using a chair and seated poses. I’ll let you know when I’ve uploaded it to my channel. Stay posted! 😊 Thanks!
I loved it! Excellent instruction. A Plus! Namaste.❤
I'm so happy to hear that you loved this class and my instruction. Thank you for the grade of A+ 🤩 Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment! I really appreciate it.
Do you have exercises for sciatica?
Hi! Yes! I do have a video for sciatica. Its called 8 Yoga Poses for Sciatic Pain. Here is the link to that video: th-cam.com/video/PYdxoo0mFFY/w-d-xo.html
I so appreciated your being specific regarding the set up of the body for these poses. Too often in my experience that is not the case. I especially liked your reminders regarding the knees. I will be following this regimen. Thank you so much!
I'm so happy that you appreciate my teaching style and my reminders. It's great that you will be following this regimen. Stay consistent with your practice and you will see many benefits in your life. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. 🤗💛
I am so happy with this workout! I know it's one that I can stick with! Thank you so much!
Hi! It makes me so happy to hear that you are so happy with this workout! Please do stick with it! In no time, you will see many benefits to all areas of your life! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. 🤗💛
Hi I love your video! Thank you! In the last pose, shivasana, my legs were bent and I could feel the inner thighs trembling. What does that mean? Is that a sign that I over did an earlier pose? Thank you!
I'm so happy that you love the video! Thank you for the question about your inner thighs trembling at the end of the class. It is pretty normal and usually does not mean there is anything serious going on. There could be a few explanations. 1. After exercise, muscles twitch or tremble to increase blood flow to the area. 2. You could be a little dehydrated. 3. It could be you had low blood sugar. 4. Too much caffeine. 5. It could be a tension, trauma and/or stress release, which is a good thing. You might want to check out this video about TRE: th-cam.com/video/WReAjA7Nx4M/w-d-xo.html.
@@YogasJoyfulJourney thank you so much for your explanation . Today I just did your video and there was no trembling in shivasana but I did drink before starting the exercises. I love your video and your clear concise guidance throughout the poses and have shared it with family and friends! I will check out your other videos. I hope my dexa scan in December will show some improvement in my spine and hips!🙏🙏🙏 this is day 4 of your program!👏👏🙌🙌❤️
@@CathyPepe-d2y Glad to hear that you did not experience trembling this time. Thank you for sharing my video and channel with your family and friends. That will help me grow my audience so that I can reach and help other people. Good luck on your dexa scan. Cheers to yoga, strong bones and good health! Keep up the good work! Yay! Day 4!
Thanks very much. I’ve done your 30 secs but craved something a bit stronger. A 60 sec hold feels more of a challenge and more likely to effect change. Thanks very much. Sue, UK. Ps great instruction 😊
I'm glad to hear that you have been doing the 30-second hold video and wanted something more! Keep up the good work and you will get stronger and better and see many benefits in all areas! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment! 🤗💛

Thank you so much! ❤ I’m happy you enjoyed this class. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment! 😊
Love this video and the 30-sec and 60-sec ones, too! For the bones to benefit, do the poses need to be done in the order you have them and all at once? For example, can I do Triangle and then Revolved Triangle and both supine strap poses on one leg and then the other (vs supine 1 for each leg and then supine 2 for each leg)? Thanks.
Glad to hear you love this video and the 30 second and 60 second versions. Thank you for your question. The poses do not have to be done in the order I have them. You can do some poses and then do some poses later. The main thing is to use good form and to work towards holding the poses longer (up to 72 seconds). Keep up the good work and you’ll see many benefits. Cheers to yoga and good health! 😊
Thank you. Are twists good for scoliosis?
I am not an expert on scoliosis but depending on the severity and degree of the scoliosis, I feel twists might aggravate scoliosis. Unless you’re certain it will not aggravate the rib arching, scoliosis patients should avoid twisting the torso against the pelvis. Gentle twists might be okay. Work with a doctor, physical therapist, or chiropractor to ensure safety.
@@YogasJoyfulJourney OK. Good to know. They felt good, however!
Very helpful. Other info I’ve read says to hold these poses 40-60 seconds, which is longer than they are held in this video.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the video and find it helpful! I have two subsequent videos with the 12 poses for osteoporosis with 30 second holds and 60 second holds. Here are the links to those videos if you would like to try them: 30 second holds: th-cam.com/video/i6c-Xn8j-LI/w-d-xo.html 60 second holds: th-cam.com/video/FBoEN45DUSQ/w-d-xo.html Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment! 🤗

Glad you liked the workout. Good job on completing it with 5lb weights! It's good to take a rest day in between workout and maybe do some yoga or walking. Keep up the good work!

DX with advanced osteoporosis about 3 years ago at 60 yrs old. I was like “what?” because I drink a lot of milk, always have. But had a hysterectomy at 28 years old for endometriosis. DEXA scan showed my bones basically nonexistent. I had gotten tired of trying to manage the HRT! Was sent to a Bone Clinic to begin Prolia injections every 6 months. I take RX vitamin D2. Just had an injection 6 days ago and the side effects right after are always a treat - painful joints especially extremities, hips and lower back. my CA and Vitamin D levels are finally normal now. Can’t wait to get started on your video!❤
Sorry to hear about your osteoporosis diagnosis and the side effects that you are experiencing. Prescription drugs for osteoporosis can have a lot of side effects. The good news is that yoga has none of the side effects that the prescription medications have. Keep taking good care of yourself, keep moving and strengthening your body and keep a positive attitude through it all. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. Keep me posted on your yoga journey for stronger bones 🤗💛
Practicing your Joyful Journey is helping me to get closer to feeling good again. I’m grateful to be able to enjoy a class like this. Although I miss some of the yoga postures that are not good for this condition, I do practice Yoga and TaiChi daily, also continue with household activities everyday. I’m fortunate to have your sessions that include a positive mindset, so very important! 🌈
I'm happy to hear that you are getting closer to feeling good again! Keep up the good work! You are correct that a positive mindset is very important! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment!
Thanks for the clear explanations and modifications as I have a lower back injury but still need to strengthen my bones!
Glad to hear that you appreciate my clear instructions and modifications! Take good care of your back and just modify the poses as you do the videos to continue to strengthen your bones! Keep up the good work and you'll see the benefits! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment!

Happy 2025!
Happy 2025! I can't believe January is almost over! Take good care!
I'm so grateful that I found your channel a couple of years ago. I cannot tell you how many times I've done this particular one, though I try to work others in for variety. I definitely attribute the 12 poses practice to a 7.5 percent increase in my bone mineral density on my recent dexa. My new doctor was surprised and asked me what I have been doing. Now she is vowing to get back into a yoga routine herself.
did you have a yoga practice before? how many years have you done yoga? Curious since I've done yoga for 14 years and was diagnosed 1.5 years ago, but I did slack off during COVID and maybe not frequent enough. I've been doing this wonderful led 12 pose now for 1.5 years 3-4X/week and 2X 5 lb hand weight routine. Will get a DEXA this summer. Hoping for some gain.
Wow! I'm happy to hear that you found my channel and have been doing this video often. That's wonderful news that you have a 7.5% increase in your bone mineral density on your recent dexa! Thanks for sharing the information with your doctor and I hope she does get back into her yoga routine. Yoga is amazing for all kinds of things! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment! I appreciate it!
Hi Becky, thanks for sharing this wonderful video. I feel amazing. I am a long time yoga lover and also have brought Pilates into my routine. I have recently learned I have osteoporosis. I have done your yoga for osteoporosis videos and enjoyed them. While doing this video I was able to adjust some of the poses to what I felt were appropriate for what I have learned is safe for osteoporosis . Have you considered adding a osteoporosis friendly yoga routine in this style. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful stretching video. Julie
I would appreciate a stretching session appropriate for those with osteoporosis. I used to practice yoga with the movements in this session but now they are not all appropriate for those with osteoporosis such as myself. I've been enjoying the 12 poses session for osteoporosis. Stretching before sleeping would benefit me and others. Thank you.
I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed this video! Thank you for the suggestion to add an osteoporosis friendly yoga routine in the style of this class. Sounds perfect! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment!
Good Morning, Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post and considering the idea of an Osteoporosis stretch friendly routine. I look forward to see seeing your new routine in the future!
I just found this video, Becky. It feels amazing. I taught yoga until 2020, when the studio closed. I've taken classes with an instructor of Dr Fishman. I want to compliment you on your clear instructions, gentle reminders of form in every pose and the kindness that comes through in your voice. Thank you for providing this video. I will be sharing it and checking out your other videos. 🙏💕
I'm happy you found this video and that it feels amazing for you! Thank you for the kind words on my instructions and teaching methods. I also was teaching yoga in a studio which closed after the pandemic. I was lucky enough to move my teaching on to Zoom and many of my students still take yoga with me on Zoom now! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. Cheers to yoga!
If you have spine problems, another osteo specialist recommends when practicing the bridge to NOT lower yourself spine by spine but, instead, anchor your head and shoulders to the floor when lowering yourself. Makes sense.
Yes, that is a good instruction for lowering yourself down from bridge pose. I recommend keeping the spine long when lowering down. Sometime the mistake is made of letting the hips touch down on the floor before the waistline touches down which does not keep the spine long. I am not an osteo specialist so please listen to the recommendation that feels right for your body. Thanks for leaving me a comment.
Hi lovely Becky, i have osteoporosis on my spine. Can i do this exercise? Thanks a lot. Happy New Year to you & your family, too 🎉❤
Hi! Although I do not know the level of your osteoporosis, I would say that this video is generally safe for people with osteoporosis. Be careful when you do the bent knee twist and just do it gently without forcing the twist. Take care to listen to your body and don't force or push through any of the poses.
@YogasJoyfulJourney thanks a lot love ❤️ you're always so helpful

Are there any of these exercises that I shouldn't do with compression fractures? I have recently been dx with two, thoracic 12 and 4.
Thank you for asking but this is definitely a question for your doctor. Show your doctor this video and ask if there are any poses that you should avoid until your compression fractures are healed. It will depend on the severity of the fractures and your overall health. In order to give the bones time to heal, your doctor may recommend that you avoid all high impact activities, including sports and exercise. You should also avoid any bending, twisting, or lifting motions. However, this does not mean you should stay sedentary until the fracture heals.
@@YogasJoyfulJourney Thank you so much. I'm waiting to see an orthopedic consultant at the moment for further information but it's a long waiting list. I'm being very conscious of my skeletal movements overall, while still doing some osteo exercises ie the tree and similar, which feel safe. So glad I found your channel. I'm 75 and like your easy to follow clear instructions. Love the elevator analogy for Kiegel exercises.
I'm so glad that you found my channel too! I'm also glad to know that you are 75 and still moving your body and staying active. Keep up the good work! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment! 🤗💛
