Having them sing pop songs makes no sense for the role of Maria. Rodgers and Hammerstein in much closer to Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta. Pop style singing will tell you nothing of the actor's ability to perform that role. It's also a soprano role and most pop songs are wrtitten for a contralto.

Horrible hackers like Zoe almost ruined my voiced. Same idiots were also that nasty to me said I can't sing. I sing Verdi quite well now and have ben in 4 operas. Quite harder then Musicals Theater. I found a real teacher. Shouting you're flat or breath is useless. Tell them how to fix it. Also not following why Maria ha to have a British accent when the real Maria was from Austria!

Maria and many of the Rogders and Hammerstein and older Musical Theater lead roles were very close to being an operatic lyric soprano. Like Gilbert and Sullivan there were expected to singing either without a microphone or with the drop microphone in the ceiling. Close microphones glued to your face and body did not exist yet. Anyone that young is very unlikely to have a developed enough voice. This whole thing is coming across as a creepy old man finding an excuse to hang about very young women and Julie Andres is Lloyd Webbers ideal woman and living some fantasy
