Nice board and well thought out. I actually have a Noble but swapped it out for my Ampeg SCR-DI. I was the touring bassist with the Motown group The Miracles for a few years and just needed that Ampeg tone. The Noble is a nice clean tone for other uses though, but in my opinion way overpriced for what you actually get out of it and I’d be scared to death of taking it on the road with those tubes. In the studio I’ll use my Acme DI box direct in more than the Noble as I play a lot of R&B sessions. But the Noble is the bright shiny thing right now so a lot of my fellow session pals are using it as do I on occasion. It does sound good. I use the Source Audio EQ2, C4 and Gemini running through a Disaster Area DMC MicroPro for pretty much unlimited EQ, filter, synth, phaser and flanger options. For an Octave I use the Seamoon Octatron (best I’ve heard and replaced my OC-2). Then Oceans 11 reverb which is rarely used but when you need it you need it.

As with all things, our tone is only as good as our FOH guy. Cool that you can mix all different saturation levels independently. Patiently awaiting my CAPO, trying not to count the days.

Am I missing something? I have just got one of these, I turn down the drive and up the output for nice clean tones, you guys need to up the volume on what your outputting to to allow you to do this. I didn't see you guys go less than like 11 o'clock so I would fully expect it to sound dirty as that kicks in from like 9 or something. I'm selling my VT bass and Sansamp bass driver as find this all I need for my application.

What would be a modern equivalent to this bb5000 bass?

Congratulations on the kiddo! You aren't wrong. The Denver In-N-Outs are the best I've been to also! I try to blend looking out at the crowd and what I'm doing on the fretboard as best I can.

I am a big fan of JT and I love this interview. While I was listening to this interview I realized how much we relate. I am doing bass in my high school band and I am the bass player for the Kentucky Opry Jr Pros at the MAC currently. I am in my second season of Jr Pros and he has been a big inspiration to me. His bass playing has taught me a lot about how to be a good country bass player. I hope to one day meet JT myself and learn more about how to be a better bass player and musician.

Love this interview! On the topic of “Tennessee Whiskey,” Vance Powell in the mix phase apparently played his mix into Studio A using monitors and recorded the room and added that as the reverb for the track. So no surprise that the bass is so roomy!

Tried the capo. Loved the clean preamp and the logic behind the signal chain. Having two loops, being able to reorder both sides, well thought ! The hype is real buuuut. The saturation is kind of sterile...not « amp like ». It works well to fatten the tone, but I personally did not like the gain stage after 12 o'clock. Just be aware of that before buying. Otherwise great unit ! Playing pop-rock stuff direct with IEM's with the LPF engaged sounded great !

The last few days Ive been playing rhythm on this. Its easy and sounds great. Credit Songster. I know I know. Its got its quirks. But gives the basics and its grtting updated and better all the time. Sounds great, Man👍

Another great podcast. A couple comments: 1. Every time I use send/return on the hx stomp it affects the tone in weird ways when the loop is engaged but the pedal is off. You really notice it when you toggle the block on/off quickly while playing. It’s really frustrating. If you know how to fix this issue I’d love to know. 2. I haven’t experienced any breakup with the hx stomp’s noble emulator using passive fender basses. Obviously it’s nowhere near as good as the actual thing.
