The Run to Banff, Episode 5: Epic Ride through the Glaciers of the Columbia Icefields!
In June of 2024 my group of friends and I took our Harley-Davidson baggers north of the border, and into Canada to experience the Canadian Rockies for the first time. We rode for 6 days through seven national parks on both sides of the border. It was an incredible trip on our Road Glide's and Street Glide's and I hope you enjoy watching it!
EPISODE FIVE:
In this weeks episode we continue our epic ride north on Icefields Parkway, heading towards the Columbia Icefield, one of the most famous places in the Canadian rockies. But first we have to pass through the Big Bend, which is a narrow canyon followed by a sweeping and rising curve that takes you up to the pass and the icefield. As we continued north we entered Jasper National Park, and enjoyed the majestic mountains all the way up to Jasper, AB. We then had a 40 mile run to Hinton, AB where we would stay the night. This far north, the sun barely set and it was still light at 11pm. What a day!

I Almost Walked Home From Sturgis...and it was all my fault.

My ride home from Sturgis got really interesting due to a stupid mistake I made, and it almost left me walking for a bit! Sturgis 2024 was an awesome week and one of the best parts of riding my 2024 Road Glide towards home was catching the beautiful South Dakota sunrise and I blitzed it east towards Minnesota. What a week packed with people, fun and amazing rides!
Best Ride In the Black Hills: (and we had it all to ourselves!!)

At least once during every Sturgis rally I get up at 5:30am to do the run down to Needles and Iron Mountain before anyone else in the Black Hills are awake. For that 90 minutes I get the two most unique roads in the entire country all to myself. This time, Randy tagged a long and it there was a bit more adventure than we planned with construction and dense fog.

Awesome ride! I live in Calgary, and haven't taken the gondola on Sulphur Mountain since the late 1970s. At that time there was complete access to some of the more rocky terrain, where you could sit and have close encounters with the mountain goats, Lol. I've traveled to Europe several times, and have vista's the Alps in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and France. On one trip we rode the gondola up to Mont Blanc France. Going up is a nice slow pace. Coming down however is entirely different understandably. At such an incline gravity and inertia prevail. Nobody expected this...the whole car felt like it flew from the cable! Still it was fun, and since we cancelled Euro Disney from our European Vacation itinerary, this was the next best thing. Not to diminish Sulfur Mountain's gondola by any means, but in comparison, Mont Blanc's gondola made it look like a kiddie ride at the amusement park. Lots of screams from our fellow passengers on the way down :)
