The Land
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 ม.ค. 2008
The land is sacred. All the living creatures and beings who visit are treated with respect. All things are One Thing. The parts are the whole and all parts have their time and purpose. Be part of the whole and give up autonomy. Join together and be strong. Recognize the Great Space and see no separation.
Old Curved Stone Steps Resurrected!
Here’s a restoration on an old Kasota Stone steps in St. Paul Minnesota. I did some repairs to it six years ago and I’m back to do some more. It’s better than replacing him with some thing with less character.

Taking a road trip from Minnesota to Mexico, and the end of this video part one ends in Arizona. We stay at Harvest Host locations and a campground on the way. It’s just a quick fun video of our trip. We consider not going because of news about the border issue, and the closure of the Lukeville port of entrance. So we went around to San Luis and got in easy. Part two will show how our experienc...

Can we get an update on this repair in 2024? Thanks
You want me to ask the building owner if I can go back in the basement, which is now finished apartment units, to inspect the stone walls? Not this one, but there are a few other basements that I can inspect. I’ll get right on it.
Very nice. One trick for blending the new stones with the old is to take a handful of dirt front the garden, mix it with some water into a paint and gently brush it into the stones. Also, to save your back a bit, use a garden hoe with a long shaft when mixing the cement. I learned this from Mike Haduck!
I like to give my back a workout. So I stretch daily.
@@forsbergmicah There are better and safer ways to give your back a workout. As you get older, you come to realize how important proper posture and technique is. It can save you a lot of pain and suffering later on.
You want to make a drag to go behind your car or truck to help clear up your road or flat spots
Who carried all the debris from the wall out of the basement? That is a lot of work
No brushing and watering before filled up with mortar?
Is it true that sealing it without a vapor barrier on the other side will cause it to freeze while saturated and crack the foundation?
Got me 13 acres on the way to peach springs...just moved up here this week i love it
Nice seeing you and your Brother working so well together ! Great progress ! *FJB !*
You absolutely Definitely Positively need a Chinese Diesel Air Heater. I have had one in my Chevy Cube van for the last 3 years and they are Fantastic and very fuel efficient ! *FJB !*
Yay ! There's a Thunder/Lightning Storm coming... Lets get the longest Metal Pipe that we can to make a Lightning Rod ! lol Nice Piece of Land... I just bought a 41 acre lot today in the same general area. Gonna head down for a few weeks at the end of May. *FJB !*
My basements limestone, probably will be using just type n mortar mix with a binding agent. But some good techniques in here
I will be in Kingman Wednesday! Shopping for land...so excited😊
Excitement is good. I’m also excited about moving there too. We are in the process of selling extra things and putting our house on the market.
What part of Arizona
Near Show Low.
Nice to see people showcasing the art and craftsmanship of the stone masons who took the time and effort to build these walls rather than just cover them up!!!
I'm planning on working on my sandstone basement to re-do the mortar. Would the mortar you used work for that sandstone? I was told that firestone mortar would be best for it's stickiness but its more expensive, not that I mind but, I just want to do it right without completely breaking my bank. We just got this house back into our family a few years back and we are trying to get it back into shape. It's 100+ year old railroad business building that was lifted, moved, and then turned into house.
Do not use fire brick mortar. Or fire stone mortar. Use your average basic mortar. Mix from Home Depot. Any type of mortar mix will be eight good soft lime mortar for your sandstone. Type S or masonry mix is not recommended for a softer stone.
@@forsbergmicah I appreciate the feedback. Would you say the "Mastergrade Stone Mortar Mix of cement and mason sand mixed" would work in this situation? I'm having trouble finding what what I need at my local homedepot. If it needed to be softer would adding more masonry sand to that mortar mix help?
"PromoSM" 👀
Great job! It’s obvious you enjoy your work and respect your team. Keep it up!
i’ve watched this video like 4 times and it pisses me off every time. the one time that i’d actually hire somebody to do a job for me, they’re not anywhere near where i live. amazing work dude, that’s a thing of beauty.
Settle down killer 😂
I haven’t watched my video for 5 years. Wow! It’s so satisfying to see. So many basements since. Cool teaching quality like Bob Ross.
Absolutely fantastic! now all you need are some shackles and chains. Maybe a rack or an iron maiden?
I was congested as you can hear. Wear a good mask that removes mold.
This is awsome man. I just bought 37 acres in Northern az and looking forward to it. Gonna keep watching your videos and see if i can pick up any tips.
I just bought a 41 acre lot today in the same general area.
@Snailmailtrucker that's awsome. It's great out here
What kind of foundation/footings???
Question? What are you looking for?
The meaning of life
The meaning of life is rammed earth
Plenty of good firewood!
Hey man thanks for the video. Where did you find that rammed earth workshop?
www.rammedearthhomes.com/
Still happy with your 40 acres? What would you do differently if you had a do over?
More trees and a perk test before I bought it. However, I have to trust divine guidance. This will be exactly what we need. Our neighbors are amazing.
I sure hope you went to the nearest tire store before you proceeded on your trip without a spare..
I like the way !
100% Use rammed earth on the exterior walls and a couple inside for thermal mass- I’ve always like the idea of a south facing glass porch with a roof that has long enough overhangs so in that in the summer much of the midday sun is blocked from shining into the porch. But in the winter, when the midday sun is at a lower elevation above the horizon that in summertime , all that sun will warm up the rammed earth wall. The wall built specifically to store that energy during the day and release it slowly throughout the long winter night. Aka passive solar heat via thermal mass.
Did you get the rammed earth house done or started.
We decided to start out small. We don’t want burn out and we don’t want to do all rammed earth. First we have to set up infrastructure. This year we plan on selling our house in MN and moving to the land to build an RV pad, shade shelter and a road. Increasing out water capacity etc.
That home is so beautiful.
Quentin hosted the event he’s the OG of rammed Earth Homes.
Which mortar mix was used here?
V helpful & funny! Thanks for the great info!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pumping it in would be easier...
Dude sounds a bit dissapointted... nice looking land.
Enjoying the channel. This is another northern Arizona channel i enjoy th-cam.com/video/SlbmiNLKMn0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=btjVnkkflj14uY6b
Can I ask what something like that would cost? Just ballpark. I'd say 1000sq ft basement?
Maybe $6000-$8000?
WHY THE FVCK would anyone plaster over lovely stone walls like that?
use a mask bruh
It is coming along. I cannot wait to see the finish product.
Thanks fellow Libra. It’s a finished shed. That’s about it. We will be working on it a lot more this coming summer. We will be selling our house and moving in to our RV.
Do you expect pack rats to eat through 3/4 inch plywood? I guess there is no harm in preventive measures. It is definitely not easy trying to build this by yourself.
they could chew through if it was closer to the ground. off the ground they have nothing to stand on.
@@forsbergmicah no it makes sense to not give them any help getting into your shed. I will most likely will put metal sheeting that goes around the bottom to also help keep out critters. I will also bury it like a foot down.
man, that is some wind. Is this all the time or only 40-50 mph during certain times of the year?
It’s seasonal wind. Spring and fall but it’s usually calm.
I was going to ask you in your first video if you were planning to keep the Weboost or switch to Starlink. This video answers that question. I also see you are moving from Minnesota. If I do decide to move to Arizona, I will be making the trip from VA. That mud worries me about having a 2WD van that I plan on living in while I build a more permanent home on my property. I might need to find some old 4wd vehicle so I can keep my van on the property while I drive into town in the 4wd.
Definitely get a 4wd or AWD.
I am looking at land in Northern Arizona off of I-40 to the East and West of flagstaff. Thanks for this video. Gives me an idea of the flora and ground of the area.
Similar to my sandstone mud cellar wall 1850 UK. Leaks water now. Need to repoint.
what did this job cost the owner?
It’s been so long. Probably $6000-$8000
That was a productive yet relaxing trip. Nice job!
Welcome back. Nice to see that the rain we had didn’t muddy up your rode to much.
I've been looking at land out in Concho for years. I should just buy it already. I love your set up.
I bought 4 years ago...Just do your research...My place is fabulous...right off highway hit water at 185'....We live in Phoenix but spend the summer in Concho Valley
