No shmups? WTF?!?!
I might put some in if I ever get round to making a part 2.
Mama Llama was in Zzap Issue 1, at the same time Minter had his column in the magazine. He positioned himself in a different space, it wasn’t exactly so valuable or unique after all. many of the games were poor derivative versions of games elsewhere and were ridiculously hard, or by design unplayable. His brand didn’t appeal to me then, and it doesn’t now. i appreciate your video as a well produced play through so we don’t have to.
While I'm a fan of his work, I think it's telling that the games rarely feature in top 50 or 100 lists of C64 games.
I love the retro content keep these games alive
So it's relatively stiff?
Yes, considerably more than any other joystick I've had before or since. Fine for most games but too stiff for anything that needs wiggling.
@@2000DC Thank you. That'll save me some money.
Does SPEEDLINK SL-650212 only support D input?? Isn’t X input supported??
Merry retrospective christmas 🎁🎄🎅 from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. COMMODORE 64 FOREVER 😺👍🕹️! Press play on tape AMIGA FOREVER 😺👍🕹️! Insert disk 2
Merry X-mas! 🎄🕹️
Frontloader and a CRT? You're playing the right way. Love to see it!
I disassembled the Revenge of the Mutant Camels when I was 17 years old and found there is cheat mode if you type "goats" in the intro screen and you can jump levels using the space bar :-)
I'll need to give that a try!
Near arcade perfect, just shows what the machine was capable of in the right hands.
This was a great video! But you missed one major thing, the triggers are analog triggers and not digital. They should work like a car's accelerator pedal, giving different inputs depending on the gradual travel change. There might be something wrong with your settings as they work just fine. Edit: the triggers do their job with no problems, but this is not to say that they're great. They feel okay to use.
Was a great game for a budget title.
You still have Trojan Light pen for the Commodore 64?! That is so awesome 😺👍🕹️!
I was surprised that it still worked!
I LOVE C64 ❤
Great Rob Hubbard sound track. I believe he also did the load music that plays a version of Living on Video by Trans X. This was also present on my Elite version of Frank Bruno's boxing. Great tune.
I had no idea until a couple of weeks ago that the loading music was a cover of a chart song! I listened to the original and really liked it ☺️
@@2000DC I loved the music as a kid. It was only about 15 years ago I discovered it was lifted from a chart song. I was searching for the Commando music and made the discovery. It's actually a pretty good song: th-cam.com/video/b9xBAtCsCTQ/w-d-xo.html
Love it!
I had SMASH T.V. as one of The Hit Squad games for my Amiga 500 many years ago. Definitely one of the craziest arcade conversions, i have ever played 😹🕹️. TOTAL CARNAGE! I LOVE IT! 😹👍🕹️
Such a good conversion
COMMANDO is - and always will be - one of the best arcade conversions ever made for the Commodore 64 😺👍🕹️.
Awesome video bud!!!
Thanks 👍
I'm still looking for ACTION BIKER to my Commodore 64 😹👍🕹️. Rob Hubbard composed an excellent music 🎵🎶 for this game 😸😺👍.
A real cheery tune.
Wih light gun or mouse it is awesome
I wish, i could find ARCADE CLASSICS for my Commodore 64 and play ASTEROIDS and SPACE INVADERS everyday 😹👍🕹️.
It has a great Sid tune. Could listen to it over and over.
@@2000DC Rob Hubbard at his best 😺👍🎶🎵.
HIGHWAY ENCOUNTER - definitely one of the most inspiring classic games, I have ever played on my Commodore 64 😺👍🕹️.
I bought both ARKANOID and its sequel ARKANOID: REVENGE OF DOH for my Commodore 64 as the tape versions in a compilation called TAITO COIN-OP HITS this month from a finnish 🇫🇮 website 😹👍🕹️. I wish, i could find them also for my Amiga 500 😹😺👍🕹️.
My friend had Revenge of Doh, we loved playing it.
@@2000DC We all know one thing: THE OLD RETRO GAMES - especially the Commodore 64 and Amiga - FOREVER 😺👍🕹️!
I think this is the very first game on the C64 that used the fake dual playfield trick. I remember scratching my head on how they did that back in the day. (they redefine certain characters on the fly to have vertical scrolling).
I gotta play BOUNDER again sometimes 😹. In fact, i still have it for my Commodore 64 as a tape version in a compilation called 10 GREAT GAMES 😺👍🕹️. Also, i'm your new retrospective channel subscriber from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. 😺👍🕹️
It was more difficult than I remembered 😂
@@2000DC If i ever make a gameplay video of BOUNDER on my Commodore 64, you would definitely like to see it 😹😸👍🕹️.
Works on Mac M1 as well, at least with Vice
Thank you for having our book on show 🤝
Looks like Google might actually be opening up the Bluetooth access for this. Great news! I'll put out another video if that's the case.
Hey i wann buy this controller ..is this controller work every game on pc like Xbox controller ? Is it plug and play or xinput need ?
Plug and play on PC like any standard controller. Wired only for just now.
@@2000DC so don't need any configuration or additional software? Just plug and play and work with every game ? Please be sure then I'll buy it tomorrow
@@razib531 plugs in and works for me, just a standard joypad
@@2000DC what about triggers is analogs or just buttons
I would love to have one
they better unlock the controller! I loved it more than the service lol
It was fun while it lasted
I think I would buy one if the price crash and they implement Bluetooth.
It would be great if they were to activate the Bluetooth fully, but I can't see them doing it if they are refunding.
Manufacturing has stopped, and they won't activate Bluetooth since they are shutting down and refunding
Well guess what happened lol
Do you have to emulate Xinput in order to get it working on pc games?
No, it will plug and play.
@@2000DC With some games, not all games though. Emulating Xinput is the best way to use the controller on PC.
No one will be paying again for a Google product, asides of Gmail and Drive
I thought they could have made Stadia work, it worked well for me. But the line up of games didn't interest me that much, and it's hard to justify paying full price for games you don't physically own.
@@2000DC yeah especially after finding out it’s closing. I wanted to try the crew 2, saw I can get a discount as a first purchase on stadia, and now own the game on stadia. Should’ve refunded then because my wifi used to be too bad, but now we moved and got better wifi so my tv is much closer to the router, and I’ve been enjoying the crew. I’m about halfway through and now it looks like I’m gonna have to pay again just to start over
You still pay by watching ads.
@@jonathaningram8157 They might get ad revenue, but I am NOT paying.
Chromecast, pixel products and nest products and Google assistant will all sell so stop it
Is the controller that they were literally sending to people for free worth keeping? As in for consoles or PC? I think it's a pretty obvious NO.
It's not perfect, but if you're like me and don't have a premium controller for your PC, it might be worth it.
@@2000DC Fair point.
I've been using for for 2 years wired on pc. I think it's a pretty great controller. I prefer it to the dualsense even. I would say the dpad is the weakest aspect but even then it's better than the PS4 dpad or anything on Xbox....
I think the best way to use it is for Android games for a modern equivalent of an Ouya
Great Video! In the video (~1:57 secs) you mentioned using a cheap arcade stick. Which one do you have?
Thanks! The arcade stick I have is a PXN-0082. It has nearly doubled in price since I got it however.
@@2000DC Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried that one very recently with RetroPie and its really quite bad, maybe their quality has dipped. I had better control with a xbox D-pad joystick (which I hate using anything D-pad). The search continues... thanks!
As I got it so cheap I was more forgiving of it. I found the button response was mostly good but the joystick is quite loose and easy to hit the wrong direction when going for diagonals. Not great for games that are usually played with a 4 way joystick.
For me it was pretty much anything by Microprose. So Pirates, Red Storm Rising, Covert Action, F117 Stealth Fighter, M1 Tank Platoon etc etc.
i guess Exile is made in bitmap mode that makes it difficult to scroll because a huge amount of data needs to be moved in memory to scroll. that makes it a bit slow
My Favs here are Ghostbusters, Elite (which I played to deadly) and Pirates. I also quite enjoyed Action Biker, Hacker II, Project Firestart, Ugh Lympics, Thrust, IK+, Nexus, Killed until Dead and more...
That's a pretty good list of games 👍
I loved Ghostbusters on the C64, it's awesome. Pro Tipp: Like told in the video: when the Marshmallow man comes (at the city map) press B quickly to bait it. But only press B once! When you press it more often you actually use up your baits. And you don't want that, because Marshmallow Man will visit the city at least a second time again. I always wondered why it only works "once" - it took me quite a while to realize this.
Great video! Millie and Molly is one of my favourites ☺️
Yeah, it's great! Tell the licensing team to get more modern games on the platform, some of them are even better than the classics.
I will play Exile one day..
Buggy Boy is fantastic for such an early c64 game.
Exile was a good game, although I prefer the original Beeb version. I would have had football manager on my list as well.
Truthfully, I never owned an actual C64. I know, shocker. I went right from the VIC-20 to a Commodore 128. But I spent at least 95 percent of the time in C64 mode.
Those were great times and I really miss them! (Tears in the eyes)
Is this competition pro recommended to be used with TheC64 maxi ?
It looks like it is compatible from a fan website, but I don't have a maxi to test that it works. If it does work I'd say it's an upgrade from the bundled one.
