    Funny i should see this great video today. I am in Gotland for 8 days right now (June 18th). We have driven from England especially to visit 86 of the churches that have significant medieval art. The weather is perfect and we are half way through my list. It's just a wonderful place for someone interested in medieval art.

    Gros Morne is must visit, so is bell island and the mines. dildo is heavily overrated. Splash n putt is the only big amusement park on the island. Coming from a Native. Miyazaki and Goto visited Stockholm and Visby in 1972. They were there because they wanted to make an animated adaptation of Astrid Lindgren's novels about _Pippi_ _Longstocking_ . At the time, she refused _any_ animated adaptation of her works however. Stockholm is where Lindgren lived. Visby was visited because it was the setting of a previous live-action TV-series adaptation. This was also Miyazaki's first trip outside of Japan, and his first experience of non-Japanese towns. They brought cameras and took many pictures in case Astrid Lindgren would change her mind. Miyazaki's sketches for Pippi Longstocking have been on display at the Ghibli Museum in Kichijoji, Tokyo.

      The clock tower is almost a direct copy of the Stockholm City Hall, except that the real-world tower does not have a clock. However... The tower has a clock in another Swedish movie: "Jönsonligan dyker upp igen", which is a remake of a Danish "Olsenbanden" movie, where the original scene is set in/on the Copenhagen city hall's clock tower.

    it's actully a little bit of combination of Visby & Stockholm :) There are parts of his imaginary city almost copy pasted from Stockholm, and a couple of shop signs copied, lantern styles in known parks with typical late 1800's stockholm buildings, Kungsgatan and so on. Overall more inspired by visby then stockholm for sure! But it took some inspiration from stockholm for the more central parts of the city, the places you see more off early when she flies around almost getting hit by traffic, and a bit later during the clock tower accident. But it's all really cool imo!

    • @joakimnorrby
      @joakimnorrby 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah you're absolutely right, I recognize kungsgatan, söders höjder and stadshuset to name a few. I feel that the essence of Koriko is more Visby tho, but I'm prolly a bit bias :)

    • @PannkakaMedSylt
      @PannkakaMedSylt 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@joakimnorrby You are correct with the essense! majority of the city is not that small inner part you see early. like I also mentioned, it takes more inspiration from Visby for sure! I feel like he imagined Visby as a little bit bigger city, how the centre might have built up a little bit more during late 1800's, but for the most part kept same aestetics around it, so just took some inspiration from stockholm for smaller innercity part, as stockholm itself is fairly low built, no real skyscrapers, and actully not super big city compared to Japanese standards!

    Great video. I am thinking about an escorted tour of Newfoundland in 2024. Love your accent!

      That sounds like a great plan! Newfoundlanders are great storytellers I find. Thanks, I'll never be able to get rid of that accent (:

    What would you say to someone moving to canada in their 30s?

      That Canada is a welcoming country. Don't worry if your English isn't perfect since Canadians have a lot of patience I find. People are warm and it's a great place to grow as a person ❤️🇨🇦
