    Hello fellow Christian! 😊 I have the following setup, and I’m trying to figure out how to showcase my Mac’s screen-whether it’s a browser window, pictures, or movie clips-as an input source. I’m working on a three-camera podcast and would like to use the Program feed to display a movie clip or my browser as part of the podcast. The flow would look something like this: switch to Cam 1, then Cam 3 for a wide-angle shot, then maybe show a movie clip or browser window, and then back to Cam 2, and so on. Here’s my wiring setup: - The three cameras are connected to the ATEM via HDMI inputs 1, 2, and 3. - My HDMI output (1) is going into my Mac via a capture card before it plugs into the Mac. (This is used in combination with OBS in the event I would like to Live Stream, though for this setup, I’m only recording straight into my 4TB SSD drive via USB (A). -HDMI OUT (2) is going to a single monitor that shows the Program feed for all three participants to see. - USB (A) is connected to a 4TB SSD drive. - USB (B) is plugged back into the same Mac so the person doing the switching can see the multicam feed using OBS. What I’m trying to achieve is to be able to send my Mac’s monitor output so that all three podcast participants can see themselves being switched or, if we decide to pull up a news article or TH-cam video from my Mac, we can display that as well. Thank you in advance, and take care!

      Hi there... I may be missing something, but it sound like you've over-complicated the setup a bit. I would come HDMI output #2 from the ATEM to a monitor for multiview - the producer can use this to see all cameras at the same time. Output #1 goes to your talent monitor where all podcast participants can see. Then, one of the USB connections goes to the MAC, which can feed the program feed into OBS for the show. Your Mac should let you send an HDMI output to the ATEM just like a camera feed. Depending on which Mac model you have, you may need a dongle to give you an extra HDMI output - though you may have to use the dongle for the mac monitor and use the HDMI output to connect to the ATEM. Either way, the ATEM will see the MAC as just another camera and the Mac will see the ATEM as another external monitor - which you can either mirror or extend - I recommend extend so you can choose to show whatever you want on that monitor while still "working" on the main monitor. THen, you just switch back and forth - and if you want all the participants to see their camera feed, you can create a SuperSource will all of them on the same screen - then send that Supersource to HDMI Output #1 - which is connected to your confidence monitor. Hope that makes sense, but that' show I would do it. I wouldn't bring the ATEM into the Mac through USB AND HDMI -- that's wasting two connections on the same thing, basically.

      @@ChurchSetup so after carefully going over your suggestions I did want to clear the following: - I only have 2 monitors, those being my Main 32" curved LG monitor plugged into my Mac Studio via USB-C and a Regular 17" AOC monitor plugged into my ATEM HDMI OUT 2. - I like to use my 17" AOC monitor pointing to my 3 guest so when ever the switcher man operator needs to bring up a News Article or YT video we can all see and talk about it. (Currently this is plugged into ATEM HDMI OUT 2) - ATEM HDMI OUT 1 is going from the Atem to my Mac Studio via the use a Capture Card that has an HDMI input on one end, and a USB-C on the other end, this I have plugged into my Mac Studio using a USB-C input. (this is key giving I don't have to use my Mac Studio HDMI Input in the back) - ATEM USB A: is being used by my 4TB SSD Drive - ATEM USB B: After reading you comment it seems I wont be using this and or otherwise as per your instructions. FYI: the Mac Studio has 1 HDMI input slot in the back. (this is empty and not being used) (Not sure if this is the one your referencing for me to use with a single HDMI cable and plug that straight into the Atem HDMI 4 slot. Thank you again. I'm getting close :)

    Thanks for the review! This X1 Ultra sounds interesting… My church got a BirdDog P120 in 2022 that we weren’t as happy with as we would like (price paid for what we got- disappointed!). The image was decent and it didn’t have as much delayed frame rate as the old ones - one plus… but doesn’t outweigh the bad... It’s less responsive than the PTZ Optics Camera we’d had for 2 years, it flashes when you first change the preset, and the firmware update is atrocious (we are a Mac based system and had to borrow someone’s PC laptop to be able to update the firmware). WHY doesn’t BirdDog go more into the Mac space?

    What are your recomendations if I want to get these PTZ cameras to record each camera feed for post and retain 4k image for output to a projector? I'm having a hard time finding a switcher that ISO records 4k. That's a great question. My assumption is that it controls them through the NDI connection - however I'm not 100% sure. Right before we tested this out, we moved all our PTZ cameras to a new studio. We'll have to do some testing on that and get back with you.

      @@ChurchSetup Thanks!! I'd really appreciate the update about that. I know that any camera connected solely over HDMI will probably not be able to be controlled by it (you can't control PTZ over HDMI, not that I know of at least). But if this product can control other brands of PTZ cameras over NDI, VISCA, or something similar, it will be a godsend for our use case. Looking forward to hearing more about this product!

      Sorry. Yeah 🙃 It means you need experience and a measure of expertise. In our experience, BirdDog's NDI needs a some tweaking of settings to get it to work right. Otherwise, performance suffers. If you're using their NDI, you also need an AV-level switch that can prioritize video data with low latency. I see you do not recommend using wireless on a streaming computer and I absolutely agree with that. However, I installed wireless as a emergency connection and I'm glad I did. One Sunday I walked in to find the internet was down. I turned on my cell phone hot spot and connected the streaming computer to my phone. I had to lower my stream bitrate somewhat and we went live using the phone.

    • @ChurchSetup
      @ChurchSetup 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When I say wireless, I generally mean WIFI - as in the LAN wifi to connect cameras, etc. In a pinch, streaming from a hotspot is viable. The ATEMs and the Yolobox for example all tether to your phone so you can use mobile data to stream. As long as the upload speed is enough, there's nothing wrong with it.

  • @Cnspeace777
    @Cnspeace777 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Wireless would benefit in a trip hazard situation. I have surveyed rooms for wedding receptions and events with performers and it is always one spot I can't run anything other than power. You can battery power these cameras or use an outlet that won't cause a trip while still eliminating the ethernet run. The real issue is latency. I still couldn't use the camera wirelessly in those situations due to sync issues with the other cameras and audio mixing. It is good for extra shots, crowd reactions, etc. but I am not so sure about live shots along with wired cameras.

    • @ChurchSetup
      @ChurchSetup 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ah! Good point, I hadn't considered that kind of a use case. Yeah, I'm not sure what kind of wireless router you would need, and even with a AV-level wireless router, you never know what kind of interference is going to affect your signal and speed. Even hard-wired, these cameras seem to need very specific networking to reduce latency for NDI.

    • @ChurchSetup
      @ChurchSetup 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I haven't tested the auto-tracking yet. It's the complaint of most PTZ cameras as autotracking features usually zoom to whatever is best for their algorithm. Canon's is more sophisticated, but it's a $1250 add-on to the already higher-priced cameras. Canon's new firmware has free autotracking, but it's limited so it might have the same issue. I've yet to find an autotracking engine that I LOVE. Hopefully soon.

    When I hear this story, it strikes me as highly irresponsible behavior from the company. If "every single customer that you sold a BirdDog kit to was unhappy," it raises serious concerns about the company's practices and the quality of their products. This kind of widespread dissatisfaction is a red flag for potential customers and partners alike. Even if the company tries to shift the blame onto their partner, it doesn’t absolve them of responsibility. A reputable company should ensure that all aspects of their product and customer experience are up to standard, including the performance of their partners and suppliers. Simply pointing fingers at someone else is an attempt to dodge accountability and reflects poorly on the company's integrity and professionalism. Such tactics are not only unprofessional but also detrimental to the trust and reputation they hold in the market. Businesses and consumers should be wary of engaging with a company that displays such behavior, as it suggests a lack of commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. In the end, it’s crucial for companies to take full responsibility for their products and services, including any third-party partnerships. Only then can they build and maintain the trust of their customers and partners.

    • @ChurchSetup
      @ChurchSetup 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You should understand all the facts. Yes, there were problems they tried to fix. In the end, BirdDog refunded every single one of our customers the full price of their cameras and equipment. The company is a legitimate company and not out to pull one over on people. They just did not execute on a product very well, which made us pull the plug on them. However, it seems like they are rebooting and taking a new step forward fixing the past issues. If they follow through, they will be a market leader. If not, they won't.

I'm glad you were honest with your review. NDI /HX should not be difficult and should not require high end network equipment because the bandwidth requirements are so low, so why is theirs? We have 2-20x and 2-30x, an iPhone 14 Pro Max on a Hohem gimbal/gimble, the ATEM, PoE switch, WiFi Router and a 5G cellular gateway for streaming all on a 20" xx 20" x 48" server rack with Dolly wheels. We can go into any venue and setup. BUT, I'm tired of buying optical HDMI cables. Unless your setup is static they break frequently. I WAS going to buy an Ultra for a stage cam (only 12x doesn't work for our main venue) so the WiFi-NDI/HX built in almost sold me. Currently, the ATEM requires us to use HDMI and Ethernet (for PoE and PTZ control) and the thought of just needing a power cord was great. I understand your reasoning for not caring about WiFi video/control because you are in a static environment, but if you have to go to different venues you wouldn't say that. It doesn't sound to me like you really know if the WiFi-NDI/HX combo is any good because you didn't need to try very hard. They vibrate - good to know because we are recording and streaming live rock shows and that will cause vibrations. All in All, thanks for the honest review and their promise of improved firmware as time goes by might be worth something. I will probably buy an Ultra off Amazon, give it a try, and then send it back. BTW, if you really think they are on to something I'd spend $7,500 and pick up 10,000 shares of their stock.

    I did not have a great experience with this camera. It seemed to work fine when fully zoomed out, but when zoomed in it would look like it was dropping frames even though it wasn't. Maybe they fixed that in the firmware, but the issue felt pretty deep. Beyond the technical issues that I had, ultimately I chose to send it back due to the image quality. While it was in line with other PTZ cameras at the price point, it really wasn't great compared to the iphone 11 NDI camera I was using to A/B the image... Also, this video you can see the video tends to jump around (not talking about the jump cuts); it really doesn't feel natural to me.

      No NDI support at this time. I reckon they could add that in a future firmware update, but for now it's strictly VISCA control.

    I purchased one from Amazon and returned it within 2 weeks. 3 issues I found. 1st: Colors were muted and super flat color profile. You could have the camera set with a Rec. 709 color profile and it would come out looking like log. 2nd: the T bar glitch when going between transitions. 3rd: camera buttons would stick down. Summery: not worth the money. I really wanted to like it but I ended up getting a Atem mini pro and like it so far.

    Where does PTZ control come in? Is the communication done via the HDMI of cameras?

      It’s over the network via VISCA

  • @predigr

    Impossible due to zoom limits. Not all churches can put a camera in front of everyone. That is disturbing. I'm churches we need huge zoom.

    • @ChurchSetup
      @ChurchSetup 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. It's main use in a large auditorium is for creative shots, like in a drum cage or next to a musician or something. THe bigger optical zooms are needed for normal PTZ work.

    How does this compare to the Mini mx? Which one is more superior?

    • @Cooper-RGBlink
      @Cooper-RGBlink 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey Carlos, here are the key differences between the two. Hope this helps. Thanks. 1. The Mini MX has a touchscreen, but the Mini Edge only works with buttons. 2. The Mini MX can play media from a USB drive, while the Mini Edge can’t. However, the Mini Edge can connect a USB camera as a fifth video input. The Mini Edge supports 8 audio channels, and the Mini MX supports 10. 3. The buttons on the Mini Edge can be customized for quick functions. Overall, the Mini MX is better for complex, professional content production, while the Mini Edge is easier for beginners.

      @@Cooper-RGBlink that was perfectly explained! Simple & concise exactly what I was needing to know. Thank you so much! I am happy to say that I made the correct decision on purchasing the Mini MX. I am a beginner however I am hoping to become more of an advanced user and being able to know that I have room to expand & grow with if I shall need with the purchase of the Mini MX. I greatly appreciate your help & response.

    I’m trying to find but there is no much videos about using animated plugins or video ads in your stream. I need a solution not just to stream multiple cameras but I want to have my own graphics available, I want to play video ads during live stream, and still have no idea which switcher will let me do this. Does Blackmagic devices downstream video quality? If I want to record in each camera in 4k quality, will atem mini be able to downstream that signal to HD and stream? Thanks and regards.
