RPGs can be scripted, guided or open-ended. This is how I see it. Scripted RPGs are games like Final Fantasy, Gloomhaven, and Roll Player Adventures. To complete those games you cannot play without following some kind of script. Some games blur the line but the next level would be guided. In these games you could legitimately play the game with out without following a script. Zelda BoTW, Earthborne Rangers, Mythwind, are games where you play with unscripted mechanics and get a more varied experience. The next level would be open-ended, which I honestly don’t believe many games fall into. To be truly open ended you establish a basic setting and the game reacts to your actions and decisions. Aspects of many games fall into this. The aspects of Elder Scrolls that aren’t a quest fall into this. TTRPGs tend to allow for this as more of a first principle rather than board or video games which offer open ended-ness as a feature. I think games currently have no other option but to sometimes run on a script, sometimes to loosely guide, and sometimes keep it open. Maybe some future really good generative AI could be the engine for a fully adaptive open ended video game. So at the end of the day I don’t think something gets “More RPG” the more it allows your character to grow. I think it gets “More RPG” the more your decisions affect the world and characters around you in lasting and meaningful ways.

Just so you know, sky team and hive both have solo variants that apparently play pretty well! Think for hive, it's called hive in five. Sky team's solo variant modifies the gameplay so it's like you have one primary pilot and one secondary pilot or something like that so it's not as if you're playing the regular mode two-handed. Would love to see a solo variant review if you do end up playing either of those :) They're both on my wish list.

I played this with my wife yesterday, chill music, she lit her favorite pumpkin candle, and she loved the game.

Thanks for the playthrough. I love this game. It is so relaxing and zen. I did get the Target version with the plastic blooms and I think I would rather have the wooden tokens. But it's a great game!

It seems interesting, and I've already played a couple of games. But I have a question, can each defender's card be used for more than one attacker? a (5) +4 against a 9 and the same (5) +2 against a 7??

How do you wrap around?

In the end of round 2 you bought 3 colony ships with saying "Last 3 colony ships". But they are not the last, right? You have 15 and actually they are probably not limited in this scenario.

Enjoyed the play. FYI: Wound is a condition. You are either wounded or not. It doesn’t stack or compound so you can’t be more wounded.

If you like soltaire games you should check out the Zachtronics Solitaire collection. Most of them don't use a regular deck of card, though. (And it's a video game.) I'd be interested, where these games would land in your ranking.

The precincts are excluded from the extra resource cost. :)

We, our Fuji! I have to say first that I hear everyone not just you, say Default breach instead of deep fall breach! I want you to come back to Default breach and play your duck and go all the way through. It sounds like fun and I want to see how you do it! Then when you’re done with the solo adventure, maybe then you can create another character that but you already have a duck so you gotta keep playing your duck because it cracks me up!

I was just going to re-watch the last Fallout video because it was so fun, so I'm glad to see this pop up!

Small rules clarification: you can move a card of one active file type in the spot of a card with a different active file type. When you do this, the two cards just swap positions
