Shooting the Kimber Rapide Dawn. This 9mm 1911 handles recoil just fine, its sights make for easy target acquisition. This handguns biggest drawback is the magazines, which can be finicky compared to 45 caliber magazines.

Does a Berreta holster work for this pistol?
@DougMeserole yes! In this video I'm using a Blackhawk serpa made for the beretta 92. Although this maybe isn't the best holster, this pistol should for any beretta 92 holster that is designed for no rail
Good stuff, I'm holding off on this purchase till your later review. I will be checking the casing fit and get a extractor. Be interesting to see how and if the wear points are the same in a Beretta.
@@adareone thank you so much for watching. More to come!
I just ordered one for $249 after discount for email submission. I’ve followed all of these and commend the detailed and technical summary, particularly the extractor issue. I’m willing to tinker on this low buck but handsome gun. How pleased were you on accuracy?
Hey, thank you for watching and your kind words, I really appreciate it. I'm glad you decided to take the plunge while being well informed. I ultimately would recommend replacing the extractor to a Beretta one, I think the quality of that vital component is higher and makes it worth the swap.
@benspeeder, how did you get this deal?
@adareone there is a save $20 pop up window promotion at grab a guns website. Pair that with the 10 round melok variant and you will be at that mentioned price.
hrfunk did a review on this gun and had no problems with extraction. It came with a MecGar mag.
@SB-mw1bg make sure you watch the rest of my series to fully understand what is going on here. So far there are 4 parts uploaded on my channel
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 GB guns also does excellent reviews and has one on this gun.
GOT ONE, LOVE IT , SHE LOVE'S IT TOO !! HA !
@@janemarkham4133 how many rounds have you put through it so far?
MecGar mags?
@SB-mw1bg in this video I was exclusively useing the magazine included with this pistol. This magazine is an Italian ACT magazine. In later parts, I use ACT and Beretta magazines.
I shot 1000 rounds through my CZPO one and one sitting in zero malfunctions I oiled it up again now at the 600 rounds mark this gun doesn’t want to quit
@@christianneedham3876 I'm sorry I don't really understand what you are saying
What belt are you using in the video?
A simple Blackhawk duty belt with plastic buckle. I use 4 old school belt keepers to attach to my edc belt. BLACKHAWK Molded Cordura Reinforced 2-Inch Web Duty Belt with Loop Inner - Large
@flyinfr33domfreedom2 thanks, I'm probably gonna pick one up for myself
Nice review greetings from 🇹🇷
I think you need to purchase a Girsan 92 clone and do a review. I have several and really like them, especially their Centurion version with the frame mounted safety.
@bretak74 The finger groves on the frame and a huge eww factor for me. What is the low end price point for these? All I seem to see in my area is the bling versions and they often run $550-$650 around here
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 This version was about $300 when I got mine, but they seem to be no longer available. I'm glad I got mine when I did. BTW, I like the finger groves.
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2I own the Girsan Regard MC Sport Gen 4 and have nearly 3,500 rounds through it. I don’t notice the finger grooves but the idea of them is annoying I agree. I got mine for $475 or so. But a standard Regard should be like $400, maybe cheaper online.
I am curious, and I am not saying to do something illegal. If you are allowed to have more than a 10 Round magazine. Can you dissemble the 10 round mag, drill out the Dimples and re assemble allowing more than 10 rounds to fit that factory mag?
@kwixx Hey. Thanks for watching and commenting. I believe you are correct. I also think this is the reason some 10 round magazines are segmented to prevent any possibility of conversion With that said, I might look into doing this. I was wondering if this magazine has a different follower to allow it to work with the dimples, if this is the case it may explain that the follower was weakened by lack of material and that Is the reason it broke. I MIGHT convert this mag since, as you mentioned, it's totally legal in my area.
Sadly my Melik has not made it past 300 rounds. Damn barrel is cracked and the slide is stuck with a brass casing inside. Suspecting bad ammunition from Ammo inc.
@@lexmaximaguy8788 will you be getting a new one?
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 waiting for RIA too respond.
This does sound like over preassured round.
Great video series - you rarely see these type of iterative videos on TH-cam. Often just one and done firearm reviews. For the grips, Beretta uses lock washers to prevent the screws from loosening. I believe loctiting them is not recommended because it could damage the grip bushing. As a side note, I actually purchased some ACT Mags recently, so I will definitely keep an eye on the followers to see if the lock open tab breaks. I have an OEM Beretta magazine with an aluminum follower and that flat surface gets peened, so it must have a fair bit of stress at that area.
I don't think blue or purple Loctite or Permatex will hurt anything.
Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it. These videos have taken me quite a bit of time in editing. The melik does not have bushings like a beretta 92. It has raised areas where the grip bushing would be, but it's all just cnc aluminum. I actually tried to add the lock washers you mentioned but they are un compatible with the stock grips on the melik. I used blue loctite as mentioned and added some tiny o rings under the screw head to hopefully provide some minor resistance. Without grip bushings, you need to be very careful not to over tighten, and strip these screw holes. If you do strip the frame you would need drill and tapp it to take grip bushings. As for the ACT magazines. I also bought 4 @ 15 rounds. I can't say for certain, but the issue i experience MAY be caused from the 10 round version having a modded follower to be able to slip past the dimples? I might try to take it apart and see. Or maybe I'm dead wrong and it can't be disassembled because it's a 10 round variant.
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 Oh wow, I stand corrected then! I didn't expect them to integrate the threads for the grip like that. I had to put o-rings on my 1911 for the same reason, hah. I'm definitely considering replacing my ACT Mag follower and springs with GI/Beretta ones now. The mag body is very nice quality, but the polymer is what I'm hesitant about. The spring geometry is also different with wider coils, only tapering towards the top of the follower. The Beretta spring is a smaller diameter throughout. I think the ACT Mag spring is tapered at just the right length to where the wider coils cannot clear the dimples, while maintaining the same follower as the uncapped magazines. Just my theory, though! Looking forwards to the next video 👍
@DogeMcLovin when it comes to gi magazines; Are beretta and Gi synonyms? I thought GI magazines were generally garbage? Am I misinformed on this?
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 Oops, I meant either Beretta or USGI internals, not the magazine themselves. As far as I know, Checkmate were contracted by the US military to manufacture Beretta 92 magazines. However, they were required early on to phosphate the entire magazine, inside included. This lead to too much friction and poor reputation for reliability. It seems like they have been phosphated on only the exterior for many years now, though. Of course I would stick to either OEM or MecGar, yet I still purchased the cheaper ACT Mags lol.
Enjoying your review, before I run out and buy one. I need to ask, have you been using the same ammo in all your testing? I'm sure your aware that different ammo performs differently and finding the one brand that performs the best is always expensive. Look forward to your review.
@adareone Hi there. Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes I have used the same ammunition through the test but I promise you this is not the issue. Part 4 will clear up alot and properly demonstrate the issue and it's fix.
Can’t wait. I’m ready to order one or a girsan regard. I like the Melik ,but not if it’s unreliable. Like I said …. can’t wait to see part 4
@@Rob_3054life should be uploaded by Tuesday at the latest! Thanks for watching.
That Beretta spring is not a flat wire spring. They just flattened it at the end to allow it to seat perpendicular to its mating surface.
@bretak74 After looking into this, it looks like you're correct. I'll add a note in part 4. Thank you for watching!
Use the beretta extractor
@Dazed-D47 thanks for watching and commenting. I think you will enjoy part 4, coming soon!

I bought one on black friday for sub $300 - it's mainly a die hard cosplay piece and range toy. It sounds like I might need to replace the springs.
I'm still waiting myself for Rock Island to tell me if the slide, frame and barrel are cast or forged. I believe they are all forged, but am waiting for confirmation. To my surprise, aluminum can be forged too. Do you think the rails are part of the frame and thus aluminum or are they steel? Unlike the front sight, the rear sight is dovetailed and can be changed out, correct?
@plantguy100 As much as I hate to spoil the suprize, I have been able to aquire information on the frame. It's billet, neither cast nor forged. This is likely better than cast while not as good as forged. Yes, the rails on the frame are aluminum. Yes, the rear sight is dovetailed. Part 2 of this series is released and part 3 in in process. Stay tuned more good information is on the way!
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 Thank you. One web source states "Billet material, however, is not a manufacturing process, simply a form of material (like ingot, nugget or round) and is often used for CNC machining products and produces high quality, high accuracy parts without the need for expensive tooling." Google AI states "A billet is not necessarily forged or cast, but rather a solid block of metal that can be produced through either casting or hot rolling processes, meaning it can be considered a starting material for both forging and casting depending on the manufacturing method used to create the final product; essentially, "billet" refers to the shape of the metal, not the manufacturing technique used to create it. " If the billet is heated and then mechanically pressed and machined, does that fall short of "forging?" Perhaps the billet is merely machined into the desired shape without any further heating and pressing, in which case the ultimate quality depends upon the quality of the initial billet, which itself can be either cast or forged? The TH-cam reviewer "James Bond" told me Derya informed him the block for the aluminum frame was heated and pressed into shape which seems to imply a degree of forging? Great stuff for you viewers to understand the difference in quality among all the various pistol options. For example, Tisas states all of their pistols and parts are forged. Make me wonder if high priced US and European manufacturers are forging all of their parts and if indeed, that makes their products worth the cost. I suspect the higher prices largely reflect higher labor costs.
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 Thank you for the information. If you don't mind, I would like to learn more. I'm also communicating with the youtube reviewer "James Bond/Sandhill1998" who has reviewed the Melik and the Inglis (Ozerbas) Hi Power. Following is my interpretation thus far. From the google AI information below, sounds to me like starting with a billet may or may not be as good as forging. All metal must be cast at some point and I assume casting a solid block (a billet) and then machining it to the desired form is better than casting the desired form directly. I believe the billet itself can also be made through forging and/or can be heated and compressed prior to the machining process. So, my interpretation is starting with a billet is better than casting directly, and can be very close or the same as forging depending upon how the billet is made and what is done to the billet before machining into the final form. Google AI states "The main differences between forged, cast, and billet materials are the manufacturing processes used to create them, their strength, and their applications: • Billet Made from a single block of material that's machined down to the desired shape. Billets are often used in custom manufacturing because of their high precision and uniform structure. They're also the standard for high-horsepower engines. • Cast Made by pouring molten metal into a mold and shaping it to meet the design needs of the product. Cast materials are strong and light, and are often used in the automotive industry. They're also cost-effective and can be used for mass production. • Forged Made by shaping metal using compressive forces like hammering, pressing, and rolling. Forged materials are stronger and more durable than cast materials, and are often used for components that require extreme strength and durability, like gears, crankshafts, and turbine blades. The strength of each material can vary depending on the alloy type and the metal processing. For example, forged aluminum can have a strength of more than 50,000 psi, while cast aluminum is typically between 23,000 and 34,500 psi."
@@flyinfr33domfreedom2 I recently received my Melik and am happy with it so far. I finally heard back from Armscor regarding how the Melik is made as follows: "1- Is the aluminum frame cast or forged? The Aluminum Frame is machined from block part 7050 series." 2- Are the steel barrel and slide cast or forged? The Barrel is 4140 steel drilled barrel from single solid part, and the Slide is machined from 4140 steel single solid part. " As I understand it, 7050 is an aircraft grade (strong and hard) aluminum alloy, so that does provide some comfort. The remainder of the statement affirms what you told me, though I'm wondering if the statement leaves open the possibility the billet itself was forged. rather than cast. In addition, the other fellow on TH-cam who has extensively reviewed the Melik stated Derya informed him the billet was "heated and pressed" during or prior to the machining process. Can you comment further on any of this?
Rock island has fantastic customer service. I would contact them for warranty service on the extractor.
