Back in 1971 when I was a freshman at Boston University, I was in the cast of a musical that combined the music of the Beatles and George Gershwin. The original house and guitarist: “Skunk” Baxter, and on bass: Abe Laboriel. What a training ground for a 19 year-old singer guitarist! Abe was so sincere, full of spirit, encouraging, and - he was a new dad to Abe Jr.! Of course, I was thrilled to watch Abe’s and Jeff’s rises to the upper echelons of music. To this day, when I create any music, I keep in mind those early days when I worked with some amazing talents, everything seemed possible, and music captured my soul.
Abe is the man... my goodness
Truly legendary and without blemish!
Bless u brother🙏
That was great!!
Real cool. I did a record with Abe (and Alex Acuña and Justo Almario) in the 90s, a life-changing time for me. Too bad the robot narrating this can't pronounce 'Omartian' or 'Koinonia'. Keep the video, but redo the voiceover with a "person".
Thanks for watching!
Could you please tell me why Lee Ritenour was never mentioned?! He was shown in several clips! ??
He was mentioned in passing around the 5:22 mark. Thanks for watching!
@@shoutsofjoy9130 but….he was never listed along with the other musicians.
He’s the reason why I play bass, listening God is Able album
I know him from the great music he made with Koinonia years ago. Loved it. Saw them live in Holland once in I think in the 80's.
….it’s pronounced “Koin-O-nee_ah”😊
I was super amazed when he played with Vinnie Colaiuta. Not too many, but I could see from the vids and photograph especially behind the scenes, their chemistry is CRAZY, it feels like they're on same music language, and doesn't really need words to understand each other. Amazing!
Thanks for the post
You did not mention one person which actually long time Jazz Mates and that is Lee Ritenour on guitar together with Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen formed GRP Production.
Please correct us if we are wrong. I believe GRP is also known as the Friendship Band - 5:19 min mark. Thanks for watching!

Larry carlton said " i called Abe Laboriel for session recording, he got in to the studio,he took a look to the music sheet, and he knew what i wanted"
He is great overall bass player in many muzik trend. But I'm still like when he is in jazz scene.
I may not sound like him but all these years I tried to emmulate him as a musician and a christian as well. He is inspire a lot of us.
Are you able to interview him?
@@nathanwalters2856If the opportunity opens up we will be more than happy to do it. Thanks for watching!
Abraham laboriel and Fred hammond both helped me to love and appreciate praise and worship music! They brought groove and high levels of musicianship to the genre. I would love to hear more about Abraham's view and opinion of Keith Green.
GOAT 💙
Love it, cheers!
Thanks for this. I love Abraham's music. No offense, but you have to say his and Michael O'Martian's names correctly: Lah-bor-e-el. Michael O'Mar-t-an. Oh, and it's Koin-o-knee-ah.
@@PaulChaney We appreciate the constructive feedback. We'll be more diligent in our next presentation. Thanks for watching!

I've seen this guy before on TH-cam but I didn't really pay him to much attention I'm so glad you put this video on here so I can see this master bass player do his phenomenal playing. I hope some day I could catch this in concert awesome man.
👍👏🤩🤗💖
Abe is one of the most original, gifted, accomplished, recorded, and passionate bassists in history!!! Koinonia was an AWESOME GROUP!!! This sounds like an AI narration.
He plays what he is hearing...wow
I was blessed to see Abe and a small combo in a very small club about 20 years ago. They set up their gear, and with no warm up, started playing. Like a freight train starting off slowly, they started moving down the track. By the end of the first set it was a freight train hurtling down the track at full speed and intensity! It was something to behold from 10 feet away.
Abe is the best! When I was picking up the bass, he was my biggest inspiration. I took several years trying to get my hands on all his videos and CDs ( now everything is online)...
forgot to mention: abe laboriel & friends - live in switzerland, with vinnie colaiuta, paul jackson jr and tom brooks
Awesome Guy I met him in college! What a wonder legacy he formented! ❤🙏🙏🙏
I had the privilege and honor of presenting Koinonia in concert many years ago. The evening of the event, I was very ill. Although I didn't know at the time, I was later diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Abe, Alex Acuna, and Justo Almario gathered around me backstage and prayed for me. I was so touched by their genuine Christianity.
One of my favorite bassist of all time !
Great content. Wish the narrator could’ve gotten some of the basic pronunciations correct.
@@robertedmondson1038 I appreciate the feedback. We'll be more careful in our next delivery. Thanks for watching!
Glad to see this Featuring Abe Laboriel. I learned some of his Solo Bass Techniques Years Ago, When I Started Playing Bass! He's A Big Influence.....
I became a fan of Abe’s in the late 70’s when I purchased the Al Jarreau album Look to the Rainbow. His amazing playing on that live recording is a masterpiece. After that it was his association with Lee Ritenour and the band Friendship. He really is a legend.
He play all the al jarreau albums george Benson quincy jones george duke Lee ritenour
Abe is first and foremost a wonderful human being. His musicianship is the outcome of a life lived from love. Love is what he gives and hopefully what we all receive from his life and music.
ABSOULUTE FANTASTIC LEGENDARY BASSIST, I LOVE his PLAYING, and he's such A GOOD MAN.
The Irreplaceable! Long life Sir Abe!
I once listened to the long "I love your way" by Big Mountain. It had all the hallmarks of an Abe Laboriel artwork. I checked the band out and there was another bassist. I initially was confused but It turned out that Abe played as the studio bassist for the song.
Really happy to hear the mention of Koinonia!
Me too., I remember that BAND.
Legend! ❤
Thanks for the video. I first heard and saw him play on the Ron Kenoly dvd, God is Able. I was amazed by his playing and later learned he was the bass player on a lot jazz music that I liked. I learned even more today. Thanks 😊
Abe is my GOAT worship musician. LOVE + PASSION + TALENT
Oh yeah!!!! I know his work!!!
He's the reason I play bass today such a great inspiration
What an exceptional inspiration...a never to be repeated gift to music and bass🙏❤🙏
